Though most people’s first introduction to them was through their incredible 2004 album Mmhmm, the boys of Relient K have been pumping out tunes since 1998. Since then they’ve produced six albums (one to be released in October of this year), performed at many a Warped Tour (including this year’s), and have even put out a book and a cartoon. Read on for these epic multitaskers’ take on pre-performance push-up rituals, Moving Mountains, and girls who just wanna have fun.

Cliché: So, you guys have been together for a while—what do you think it is about you guys that has made you stay together for so long?
Relient K: Internally, you mean?

C: Like as a band.
RK: I think we’ve had a lot of luck building a fan base over the last ten years, and you know, we’re one of those lucky bands that have fans that keep coming out to shows. And we’re all friends, we all hang out when we’re not on the road.

C: Where do you guys get your inspiration from for your music?
RK: Lyrically what Matt, our singer, when he writes the lyrics, he pulls a lot of stuff from stories and life experience and tries to turn it around and be pretty transparent whenever he writes a song. So, like if he’s going through a breakup he’ll write about a breakup. Or if he feels like something’s internally is going really well, he’ll write a really positive song. Or if he just wants to write a song about a band he likes he’ll do that too. So it’s just sort of whatever’s going on in his head is whatever comes out on the page.
