Rumors have been spreading about Katy Perry and Russell Brand ever since Brand was spotted out and about without his wedding band. News broke that Brand filed for divorce on December 30th, 2011 after 14 months of marriage, just two months after their one-year anniversary, citing “irreconcilable differences”. The two met and started dating in 2008 then married during a beautiful ceremony in India in October 2010. They were spotted spending the holidays apart. Katy was vacationing in Hawaii while Russell was in England.
Many were shocked at the news while others were expecting it. The couple always seemed very intent on making their marriage work despite their busy schedules. Katy has been on her California Dreams Tour, traveling all over the world, which may have been putting a strain on their relationship. Although, in an interview in November on “Ellen”, Perry said that the two don’t spend longer than two weeks apart. When asked about having children with Russell she said, “I would love to have children. I think that’s one of the reasons why you get married.” Hollywood Gossip stated that the duo decided Brand would file the court papers because she didn’t want to disappoint her religious parents.
Brand released a statement saying, “Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I’ll always adore her and I know we’ll remain friends.” Reportedly Perry is very upset about the divorce, hoping they could have worked things out. Radio reports have been stating that there was no pre-nuptial in place, meaning that Perry could lose 50% of her assets according to California divorce laws. ABC news pointed out that Brand could end up with half of Perry’s reported $44 million fortune. The British comedian and actor is worth an estimated $15 million. There are many rumors and assumptions as to why the couple is getting divorced. Whatever the reason, hopefully the two will be able to find happiness and success in their future.
