According to sources, the Liquipel waterproof coating shown off at CES 2012 will soon be coming to the world’s most popular smartphones, the iPhone and Samsung Galaxy S II.

Apple’s long awaited iPhone 5 is likely to pack a whole host of new features; possibly a quad-core A6 processor, improved graphics capabilities as well as a waterproof coating.

The source, which originated from Today’s iPhone, said to be one of the UK’s highest placed phone retailers, and reportedly predicted, or indeed offered, the release date of both the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S before their launch.

Both the iPhone 4S and Samsung Galaxy S use Corning’s Gorilla Glass® technology at present, and reportedly will share a new technology, the Liquipel waterproof coating. 23% of all iPhone repairs involve water damage, be that submersion or simply using it out in the rain. Devices such as the iPhone are notorious for their lack of resistance to water, and a technology employed to repel this danger would likely be a massive selling point.

The iPhone 5 is said to be released in June/July 2012.
