Saudi’s Top Female DJ Cosmicat Releases Debut Vocal Underground Single “Toxic Romance.” Out Now on MDLBEAST Records

by

Saudi Arabia‘s first and leading female DJ and producer Cosmicat makes her stunning debut with the first-ever single “Toxic Romance,” introducing herself to the global market as a sultry underground queen with both dancefloor and emotive potential. The track uses big-room synths and a rumbling, techno-influenced bassline to contrast exquisitely with her own feathery vocals; in this way, Cosmicat creates a soundscape that is both bold and delicate, personifying her own identity as a female artist who is trailblazing the electronic music scene in a culture that has traditionally forbid women from making any style of music. “Toxic Romance” is only the beginning for Cosmicat, so stay tuned to see what’s next as she establishes herself among electronic’s most exciting rising artists.

When I was working on ‘Toxic Romance,’ all I had on my mind was that I wanted to create the sound I love. It got me romanticizing about my relationship with it, as it’s a human being; how it was there for me every time I needed it or how I always come around to seek and chase it. On the sonic level, I wanted to add a big-sounding synth to make the track sound bold and highlight how synthesizers and electronic music can coexist with gentle whispering and my own vocals. I believe this makes ‘Toxic Romance‘ sounding delicate and personal, while still being dancefloor-friendly.” – Cosmicat

As she rises from the underground, the world is ready to be introduced to Nouf Sufyani – better known as Cosmicat – as the first and leading Saudi female DJ & producer in the electronic scene. Born and raised in JeddahCosmicat always had a strong passion for music in a world where it was considered taboo; there were limited record and music equipment stores and no live performances. Cultural protocol meant that she had to keep her passion a secret, so Cosmicat worked toward the more realistic 9-5 career but never gave up on her dream of producing. She became a “bedroom DJ” and taught herself everything she needed to know about producing in private. In 2019 she performed at the first music festival in Saudi Arabia – MDLBEAST‘s Soundstorm (which was also the biggest in the Middle East). Her reach quickly expanded to BahrainLebanonKuwaitUnited Arab Emirates, where she performed, and now she’s gearing up for the release of her debut original single. I believe that Nouf is a perfect example showing that it’s important to be persistent and take the chance whenever it arises. Currently, there are more female DJs in Saudi Arabia who support and empower one another, with Cosmicat being the first/leading one, paving the way for other Saudi female DJs. She also hosts her own TV show. Privately she’s a cat lady (hence the artist’s name). Her personal favorites are SolomunPeggy Gou, and Jamie Jones.

DJ Screw Biopic Is In The Works

by

Published 6 hours ago

DJ Screw’s story is slated to hit the silver screen.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Sony is developing a biopic about the legendary Houston producer based off of Isaac Yowman’s musical tribute, All Screwed Up. The movie will also share the same title with Yowman serving as executive producer.

Yowman’s initial film adaptation was part of The Incubation Lab, which was run by Jeron Smith in collaboration with Sony. All Screwed Up will be the first project from this initiative, which develops feature projects from unconventional storytellers. Production is set to start in 2021 and Maia Eyre will be overseeing the project.

“Jeron and Maia have been extremely helpful and transparent in navigating me through this process,” Yowman told THR. “They’ve committed to making sure my voice as a black filmmaker is heard and the team we’re building is super solid. I can tell Sony genuinely wants to see me grow as a creative, and that means a lot. The family is happy and so am I.”

DJ Screw was known for creating the “Chopped N Screwed” style of Hip Hop that involves slowing down both the instrumentals and voices of recorded music, particularly by Houston artists.

Screw, born Robert Earl Davis, Jr., passed away in 2000 at the age of 29.

Vlade Kay and DJ Snake team up on “All This Lovin”

by

Look no further than Vlade Kay and DJ Snake’s new track “All This Lovin’” to heat things up this holiday season. The Russian prodigy brings his dynamic and energetic sound to the rest of the world with his first international single, and it doesn’t disappoint. Vlade fuses piano melodies into a percussive buildup before the bouncy, groovy drop, all overlaid with soulful vocals that add the finishing touch to this heartfelt but dance floor friendly track. “All This Lovin” took shape after Vlade Kay and DJ Snake met at a writing camp in LA, getting together soon after to produce their premiere collaboration. The track follows Vlade’s Russian based “InterludeEP earlier this year. Stay tuned for the music video to “All This Lovin” that’s rumored to be in the works!

Young artist Vlade Kay is already making waves in his native Russia, and we have no doubt that his influence will expand to the rest of the world very soon. His music is already on heavy rotation on Russia’s biggest radio stations such as Hit FM, and he has made guest performances on some of his country’s most popular TV shows, including “Russian Peppers,” “Theme” (RU TV), Muz TV, TNT Music, “Russian Christmas,” and “New Year’s Eve” on Russia 1. With an engaging stage presence to match his captivating sound, Vlade has performed at events like the Bravo International Music Awards, Russian Golden Grammy Music Awards, Dubai International Music Festival, International Music Festival in Monaco and more. After catching the attention of heavyweight producers Iike DJ Snake, it seems that Vlade Kay’s debut on the international circuit has officially arrived. Look out for more new music and exciting collaborations coming from Vlade Kay in 2020.

Who’s the Better Sherlock Holmes: RDJ or Cumberbatch?

by

Robert Downey Jr. (RDJ) and Benedict Cumberbatch are known for taking on the heroic characters of Iron Man and Dr. Strange in the Marvel Universe. But while becoming superheroes, both actors also took on the role of the world’s greatest detective, Sherlock Holmes.

RDJ first took on the role in 2009 with Jude Law being Holmes crime solving partner Dr. John Watson. The first film’s plot involved the capture of Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong) who was heavily involved in the dark arts in London 1890. In the second film Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows premiered in 2011, Holmes takes on his notorious enemy Moriarty (Jared Harris). He’s set to reprise his role in a third installment, set to premiere in 2020.

Benedict Cumberbatch is the new-age Sherlock Holmes and still has the sociopathic tendencies the detective is known for. The crime drama television show on BBC originally aired in 2011 and lasted a total of 13 episodes for four seasons. Holmes is no detective without his partner Dr. John Watson, played by Martin Freeman. This take on Sherlock Holmes takes place in modern day London, solving various serial killer murders and ultimately facing his foe Moriarty.

The question is who plays a better Sherlock Holmes, Dr. Strange or Iron Man?

RDJ’s Sherlock Holmes takes place in a more apt 1890s London, but his character stays true to the original version. Throughout all films, RDJ plays Holmes in a more frazzled way yet does a spectacular job at encompassing the special abilities that Holmes is known for. The ability to deduct clues and situations faster than the average human is accurately portrayed. His rapid body movements and cold demeanor is also up to par!

Cumberbatch’s version of Sherlock Holmes takes on a different aspect. Being set in modern day London, Cumberbatch is able to use modern technology to enhance his character. This Holmes is more fashionable, always wearing a suit and overcoat that becomes his trademark. Cumberbatch’s version has more rapid speech and analyzation than RDJ’s. He also seems closed off, but shows more compassionate moments that almost seem human. This version is also more involved in the chase of finding the answers and murderers. Cumberbatch almost derives a euphoria from crime solving, as if it were a fun game. As Cumberbatch says in the show, he’s a ‘high functioning sociopath.’

Both renditions of the famous detective hold their own. Both encompass distinct versions of the character depending on the way they are represented. Cumberbatch’s is more fun and interesting to watch on an episodic forum and RDJ’s works well in film installments. But, Cumberbatch takes the cake in my opinion.
