Knicks Point Guard Points Gun At His Wife

by

Raymond Felton the well-known New York Knicks point guard points gun at his wife during a domestic dispute. The pistol was loaded with body armor-piercing bullets, and this is surprisingly not the first time Felton waved the gun at his wife Ariane Raymondo-Felton. The brunette beauty who is  24, told cops that Valentine’s Day was the second time in a month that he pulled the weapon on her. There had also been two other incidents since mid-August, and the fights were fueled by his alleged cheating.
The gun Felton used was illegal and was packed with 18 of the savage armor-piercing bullets, with one in the chamber ready to be fired, according to various sources. Felton was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on Tuesday evening on one felony and one misdemeanor count of illegal weapons possession and freed on $25,000 bond. (New York Post)
Felton is set to practice with the team Wednesday and play against the Miami Heat in Florida on Thursday. As for his wife Ariane, she is filing for a much needed divorce. You go girl!

Paula Patton And Robin Thicke Call It Quits

by

Silver screen diva Paula Patton, and musical heart throb Robin Thicke seemed to be the perfect couple on the surface. They met when Patton was only 14, and the celebrity pair have been married since 2005. But a ton of cheating rumors have plagued the couple since Thicke’s risque VMA performance with Miley Cyrus, which some viewed as disrespectful to Patton. To make matters even worse, after the show Thicke was photographed with his arms wrapped around a beautiful blonde. In the image, a mirror showed Thicke’s hand firmly grabbing the women’s butt. The woman Lana Scolaro claimed that she and Thicke had hooked up.
Nasty rumors of Thicke’s infidelity continued to surface, and I guess Ms. Paula Patton just couldn’t take it anymore, but can you blame her? Thicke and Patton announced their split on Monday, telling the press that the breakup was mutual.
“We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.” (Fox News)
So Paula Patton and Robin Thicke call it quits, let’s hope their separation doesn’t effect their 3 year old son Julian Fuego too much. Best of luck to the both of you!

Spring in the City

by

It’s not cold enough to bundle up and hit the ski slopes, and it’s not quite hot enough to throw on a yellow-polka-dot-bikini and hit the Jersey shore. It’s that infuriatingly pretty time of year when we can’t decide what to do for entertainment anymore: spring. Sure, there’s always dinner and a movie, but that always leaves something to be desired. For that, we turn to a little state called New York. With the perfect blend of culture and crazy, New York always has something going on. We’ve compiled a list of cool things to do throughout the boroughs to keep you motivated but more importantly, to keep you satiated.

See a Broadway Show
If you’ve never seen a play, you’re missing out on one of the most amazing experiences that New York has to offer. Though, who are we to judge? Maybe you’re just not sure what’s out there! That’s why we’re here to inform you. Music lovers, especially, will be thrilled to discover tributes like Motown the Musical, A Night with Janis Joplin, and Jersey Boys. Literature lovers will go crazy over A Raisin in the Sun and Macbeth. Of course, there are always fan favorites like The Lion King, The Book of Mormon, and Wicked.  Whether it’s on Broadway or off, go indulge!

Shop at a Flea Market
Who said New York City gets to have all the fun? Brooklynites definitely know how to have a good time. If you think a flea market is just a bunch of people selling their junk, you’re absolutely right. If you think a flea market is just a waste of your precious time, you’re absolutely wrong–and you’ve definitely never been to the Brooklyn Flea. There is certainly no shortage of flea markets all over the city, but the Brooklyn Flea is an urban oasis. Every weekend, the event promises fresh food, repurposed furniture, stunning antiques, retro clothing, vintage jewelry, and everything in between. The vendors’ “junk” doesn’t feel like junk at all, but fabulous one-of-a-kind pieces that will have you rearranging your home to make space for a rainbow Buddha lamp that you didn’t know you needed. Let’s not call this an event, but an experience–one that every city slicker should experience if only once.

Take a Class
While you can do this pretty much anywhere, no place offers variety quite like New York. There are literally hundreds of classes to choose from; what’s more is that many of them are free! On warmer spring afternoons, take advantage of yoga in Bryant Park. On chillier days, plenty of rec centers offer free indoor yoga on the weekends. The New York Public Library boasts everything from chess lessons to crochet/knitting instruction. Do you want to learn how to cook like a Top Chef or perfect your pottery skills like Demi Moore (Patrick Swayze not included)? Check out Groupon and Living Social for awesome daily deals on either hobby. We guarantee you’ll find yourself having fun trying new things–things that you never knew you had any interest in!

MUSEUMVisit a Museum
You don’t have to be an art buff to appreciate New York City’s incredible museums. You also don’t have to be loaded. With most museums offering donation-only days, there’s no reason not to make the trip to Manhattan. Whether it’s The Metropolitan Museum of Art, The Frick Collection, or The Cloisters, there’s enough inspirational eye candy for the average Joe to just stare for hours. If you think it’s all paintings, think again. You’ll encounter everything from unicorn tapestries to suits of armor. If you’re looking for great photo opps, play paparazzi with your favorite celebrities at Madame Tussaud’s wax museum. Science and anatomy lovers will be blown away by BODIES… The Exhibition where over 200 human forms are displayed in all of their inner beauty. There’s no shortage of museums in the city, so find one that fits your interests.

Take a Tour
It’s common knowledge that tourism in The Big Apple centers on staples like The Statue of Liberty and The Empire State Building. While you should definitely see these landmarks, if only once, know that city tours can be so much more unusual and fun! Take a ride on the TMZ bus to see all of the city’s celebrity hot-spots. Take advantage of the countless New York City and/or Brooklyn brewery and winery tours. Take a bike tour through Strawberry Fields in Central Park–not after your brewery tour, of course! You should probably avoid a tour through the New York City precinct. Just use your imagination (and Google)! There’s so much more to see than old Lady Liberty.

World’s Oldest Holocaust Survivor Dies At Age 110

by

Alice Herz-Sommer, the world’s oldest Holocaust survivor dies at age 110. Alice lived in London but was originally from Prague, and had been confined in the camp in Terezin, or Theresienstadt, in Germany during the Second World War. She is said to have counted existentialist writer Franz Kafka among her family friends and, more recently, was the subject of an Oscar-nominated documentary about her life. The 38-minute film entitled, The Lady In Number 6: Music Saved My Life, is up for best short documentary at the Academy Awards to be handed out next weekend.
Alice passed away Sunday morning, and according to her grandson Ariel Sommer “Alice Sommer passed away peacefully this morning with her family by her bedside.” (Huntington Post) Herz-Sommer was a talented musician and an adept pianist, and was said to have spent her final days continuing to play the works of Schubert and Beethoven, from her home in central London.
Weep not for sweet Alice, she is said to have loved life, and in the weeks before her passing had this to say:
“I think I am in my last days but it doesn’t really matter because I have had such a beautiful life, and life is beautiful, love is beautiful, nature and music are beautiful. Everything we experience is a gift, a present we should cherish and pass on to those we love.” (Huntington Post)
R.I.P. Mrs. Alice Herz-Sommer, you were a living legend and an iconic piece of American history.

Christina Aguilera Expecting Baby Number Two

by

xtinaReports surfaced this week saying that Christina Aguilera & her new fiancé, Matthew Rutler are expecting their first child together! Aguilera, already a mother to her son Max, 6, from her previous marriage to Jordan Bratman just recently became engaged to Rutler this past Valentine’s Day. Things are happening so fast for her, but it’s good to see she is happy! (Eonline)
Rutler and Aguilera originally met while she was filming Burlesque, where he was working as a production assistant. I’m guessing Aguilera was the “best view on Sunset Strip” for Rutler, (Burlesque fans feel me on this one ;D).
We certainly wish congratulations to Christina and Matthew on their exciting news! All we know for sure is, that baby will be very lucky!

Fallon Has Arrived

by

fallon
Jimmy Fallon, SNL alum and all around funny man, debuted as the new host of The Tonight Show this past week & absolutely killed it. Fallon’s first show pulled in 11.3 million viewers, which didn’t break the numbers brought in by Leno’s final show, but was still respectable for a new host. (Eonline) The show’s official guests were Will Smith and U2, but it wouldn’t be Fallon without a few cameos from his famous friends (Tina Fey, Stephen Colbert, and Mariah Carey) to name a few.
One of the best skits of the night was Fallon and Smith’s “Evolution of Hip-Hop Dancing” video, which brought about gut busting laughter (at least from my end) mostly while watching both men do the “Carlton”. (Eonline) Fresh Prince of Bel-Air fans unite. (Clip under!)
Will Smith & Jimmy Fallon Evolution of Hip-Hop Dancing
Throughout the week there was more hilarity when Michelle Obama and Will Ferrell visited the show to guest star on the popular Late Night sketch, “Ew!” prompting more tears of laughter.
“Ew” with Will Ferrell and Michelle Obama
Jimmy Fallon had an incredible first week as the new Tonight Show host. With guests from Will Smith to Michelle Obama, everyone is sure that Fallon is the real deal. We wish him continued success and officially welcome him into our homes as the new host of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon!

2014 Brit Awards Best Dressed

by

Last night the Brit Awards were held at the O2 Arena in London, England and the stars showed up to the UK’s biggest night in music in style. Similar to the Grammys, stars like to wear fun and flashy ensembles to this award show, and there were a couple of celebrity divas who did just that. The question is who did it the best? I’ve put together a list of gals who I felt shined brighter than the rest and were definitely the best dressed.
First on the list is Rita Ora who sported a risky, bright yellow curve-hugging Prada gown, and it really paid off. The green gemstone detailing on her dress complimented her makeup, & glamorous old Hollywood hairstyle.

Second on the list would have to be Australian singer Iggy Azalea, who was the ultimate lady in red wearing a beautiful Elie Saab column gown with cut out detailing at the side.

Next on the list and one of my all-time favorite looks of the night was Beyoncé who performed her song “XO” live for the very first time wearing an elegant, glittering blue Vrettos Vrettakos gown that featured 400,000 blue zircon crystals. (E! Online)

Last on the list but certainly not least, is Katy Perry who rocked a custom a neon-colored, Egyptian-inspired bodysuit with cape  by Nicolas Jebran for her performance of Dark Horse. Katy’s custom creation was inspired by the Pharaonic Culture and the Egyptian icon Cleopatra, according to Jebran. Katy’s ensemble was daring, colorful, and unique. She was also a raving goddess during her performance, and I feel like she deserves the award for best dressed.

Study Beyoncé At Rutgers

by

For all you avid Beyoncé fans out there you now have the chance to study the Queen Bey and even receive college credit at Rutgers. A course titled “Politicizing Beyoncé” is being offered at the New Brunswick, New Jersey, college, but the class isn’t about the pop star’s political views. A doctoral student and lecturer in the college’s Department of Women and Gender Studies, Kevin Allred, told the college paper Rutgers Today that the class will explore race, gender and sexuality in America via Beyoncé music.

“She certainly pushes boundaries,” Allred says. “While other artists are simply releasing music, she’s creating a grand narrative around her life, her career, and her persona.” (nydailynews) Allred says that the class can expect to to discuss topics such as Queen Bey’s brand, skin-baring outfits and risque performances as her alter ego Sasha Fierce.
Beyoncé now joins her successful rapper husband Jay-Z, who also has a college course dedicated to him. The course is titled “The Sociology of Hip-Hop: The Theodicy of Jay-Z”, and is offered at Georgetown University. Congrats to this musical power couple on their continuous accomplishments, and for all you college students who need to take a Women and Gender Studies course be sure to study Beyoncé at Rutgers and expand your mind while doing so.

Ellen Page’s Brave Announcement

by

Last Friday at the Human Rights Campaign’s Time To THRIVE conference for LGBTQ youth, Juno star Ellen Page decided to share something with the world that nobody saw coming. She revealed that she is gay despite having been romantically linked to several male actors in the past. The 26-year-old Canadian actress who is known for her activism, says she identifies herself as a pro-choice feminist. The conference targeted lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning youth in Las Vegas, and Page stated that she is “sick of lying by omission.” (dailymail.com) In her speech, Page said she hoped her news would help others struggling with their sexuality, saying: “I’m here today because I am gay. And because maybe I can make a difference. ”  (dailymail.com)
Ellen Page’s brave announcement sent the social media world into a frenzy, and many people have been applauding her courageous decision to come out in such a big way. Former N’sync star Lance Bass tweeted “I just watched Ellen Page come out! Wow! What a speech! Congrats!! #HRC #TimetoThrive”. (Lance Bass/Twitter)
I believe that Ellen Page did a very admirable thing by openly sharing this news with the world. Because she is an actress, she has a platform that can influence change and I believe that she has begun to do just that. Nobody should be judged based on their sexual preference or anything else for that matter, we should all be viewed as human beings because that is what is most important. Congrats Ellen Page! Continuing being a positive role model and doing things your own way.

The Strange Thing About President’s Day

by

Today we celebrate Washington’s birthday aka President’s Day, a federal holiday held on the third Monday of February that honors presidents of the United States. But it isn’t clear as to why the federal government recognizes today as Washington’s birthday when it is actually on the 22nd. The strange thing about President’s Day is:
1. There is no universal agreement on the actual name of the holiday.
2. There is no universal agreement on which presidents are being honored.
3. There is no agreement on something as simple as whether there is an apostrophe in “presidents.” (Washington Post)
Some states honor George Washington and Abraham Lincoln on this day because both their birthdays are in the month of February. Other states honor Washington and Thomas Jefferson, and not Lincoln, but there are states that honor all the presidents.
Although there may be some confusion with the actual holiday, there is no confusion when it comes to the retail market. President’s Day is also a day that retail stores have amazing sales both in-store and online. Some say that the deals you score on President’s Day are better than the ones on Black Friday, and consumers enjoy their day of extra savings. Even though there are disagreements with this holiday, and it is unclear who should be celebrated, I think we can all agree on one thing, the retail therapy is much appreciated. So a huge thank you goes out to all the presidents who have lead this fine country in the past, and to the presidents who will continue to do so in the future.

USA, USA, USA!

by

Team USA
This morning, Saturday February 15th, was an epic one for the United States Olympic hockey team. In an always classic match up against Team Russia, both teams put forth great effort, resulting in a final score of 3-2 with the USA emerging victorious. With a tie score at the end of the 3rd period, a five minute overtime was awarded in which neither team scored. This resulted in a final shootout starring Team USA’s T.J. Oshie where he converted four of six shoot out chances, including the game winner. (Eonline) Here’s to Team USA & T.J. Oshie for their incredible win! USA! USA! USA! (Image courtesy of Eonline)
