It takes true guts to tackle a Whitney Houston song, but British crooner Sam Smith handled the task with ease. He successfully transformed the late Whitney Houston’s 1985 dance hit “How Will I Know” into a stirring ballad anchored by his familiar falsetto.
Smith performed the cover on radio program SiriusXM Hits 1, which posted the video over the weekend to much fanfare, causing his rendition to become a Facebook trending topic well into Monday. The video is nearing 1 million YouTube views as of Monday morning. (Mashable.com)
Smith just recently released his debut album In the Lonely Hour, in the United States this month. The “How Will I Know” cover has created even more buzz for the 21 year old singer/songwriter, and because it was so gracefully done has increased his popularity severely. Smith has proven to be a very versatile artist in his short amount of time in the spotlight. From his club hit “Latch – Disclosure” to his sultry love song “Stay With Me”, Smith has shown that he is capable of doing pretty much anything.
The debut album, which Smith says “is about a guy that I fell in love with last year and he didn’t love me back,” features his popular singles “Stay With Me” and “Leave Your Lover.”
Sam Smith turns Whitney Houston song into soulful ballad that his fans can’t seem to get enough of. Although Smith is a new artist on the scene, his beautiful voice and meaningful song lyrics have definitely taken the world by storm. I can’t wait to see what else Mr. Smith has in store for us all.
