For me, the best way to spend a cold, winter’s day is by being wrapped up in a comfy blanket, drinking some peppermint hot chocolate and binge-watching some of my favorite movies. While some people are big fans of winter sports, a day spent indoors gets me in the holiday spirit. I’ve compiled a list of my five favorite holiday movies for those who also love spending time inside.
“Bye, Buddy. Hope you find your dad.” That’s my favorite quote in this very quotable movie and one of my favorite parts of the entire film. The premise of a regular human child being raised to believe he’s an elf sounds bizarre—and it is—but this comedy always makes me smile.
National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation
Christmas with the Griswolds is the best way to spend Christmas. Uprooting a Christmas tree, a power outage, a Christmas tree on fire, and a dysfunctional family set this comedy apart from the rest. This is a Christmas you wouldn’t want to experience, but love to watch over and over.
It’s a Wonderful Life
This classic family holiday film is a must-watch every Christmas. Jimmy Stewart realizing his worth as a family man, businessman, and friend is a touching reminder of the importance of life. You have to watch the original black and white version for the full effect.
The Nightmare Before Christmas
Yes, I do watch this movie at Halloween and Christmas. It’s a mix of the two holidays, so what better way to celebrate both than by watching it for both? Tim Burton’s masterful film never gets old and the music is always perfect. Celebrate the holidays with Jack Skellington, Sally, and Sandy Claws.
A Charlie Brown Christmas
Good ‘ol Charlie Brown and his tiny tree are turning 50 this year and his legacy is still going strong. With its memorable jazzy music and lovably depressed main character, this television film has become a staple around the holiday season. It never gets old.
