Kelsi Davies’ Quest to Demystify the Spirit Realm

How would you react if you realized you were psychic? For Kelsi Davies, it was an integral part of growing up. As she got older, she began to share her abilities and recently decided to use her gifts as a medium to help people heal and connect with loved ones who have passed on, altering countless lives forever. Kelsi chronicles her experiences with the paranormal on her incredibly popular TikTok and on her YouTube channel. She wants to demonstrate to others that spirits aren’t always scary or evil. When she’s not communicating with the beyond, Kelsi is empowering others through music. Her new single, “Heartbeats,” is about rediscovering joy after leaving a toxic relationship. Check out the video for “Heartbeats“ below!

Cliché: How did you first discover that you had psychic abilities?
Kelsi Davies: I have been psychic since I was young. I found out this year that these gifts run on the Native American side of my family. I would always know things about people or see future events. I did not understand what I was feeling or experiencing, which caused a lot of social anxiety in my life. My mediumship was always there, but I blocked it out. In 2020 I began to tap into my mediumship and connect others with deceased loved ones.

Was that an overwhelming discovery to make as a young child? How did you process that revelation?
I thought it was normal. I always had terrible social anxiety and my gifts would kind of shut me down. Growing up, I was introverted, the exact opposite of how I would describe myself now. Once I understood that not everyone has these abilities, I started coming out of my shell and explaining it to people; I feel more understood now.

Why do you think people are so fascinated with the paranormal and spirits in particular?
It’s controversial, unknown, and unexplainable. Many people have had paranormal experiences and have had them throughout history. It’s a topic that people are afraid to talk about, but are so intrigued by at the same time.

You’ve also recently undergone a spiritual awakening. What has it been like using your gifts to connect people with their departed loved ones and why do you believe that’s your calling?
Yes, it has been incredible. It amazes me every time with what comes through and the spirits that come to me for people. I have made some very close friends due to experiences that changed their lives. It gets very emotional at times, but usually ends in happy tears and relief. I know I have these gifts for a reason. It took me a while to understand them, but now that I do, I have seen their effect on others. I genuinely believe this is something I’m just meant to do.

What has been the most exciting paranormal experience you’ve had thus far?
I’ve had countless experiences, both good and bad. However, one of my favorite experiences was when I connected with someone’s deceased loved ones recently. The mother of a family friend passed earlier this year. Mid-conversation, I start to receive visions of her. I had never met her, so I was unaware of her appearance. Usually, I will explain who is coming to me and what they look like if they are coming through clearly.

I was able to see her height, hair color, clothes, etc. She had a few things to say, but I asked her to show me something personal. She ended up showing me a silver necklace with a cross on it and its details. As I explained it to the woman, her eyes lit up. She knew what her mother was showing me was a necklace that she wore very often.

Why is it so important to destigmatize spirits or show people that not all spirits are scary?
There is a misconception of spirit communication. Many people are taught that it’s evil and demonic, but that just is not the case. Everyone is entitled to their own beliefs. I just hope people can keep an open mind to things. I genuinely believe no one knows exactly what the afterlife is like until we are there. There is a balance in this world, good and evil. A lot of the time, your lost loved ones are still visiting and looking out for you.

Do you have any advice for people out there who are hoping to communicate with spirits?
Just be safe. Again there are good and evil spirits. If you feel negativity around you or feel like something is off, I would stop the session and protect yourself. There are a variety of ways to protect yourself. I don’t know much about the other side, but I have firsthand seen these ways of protection work.

For the uninitiated, please explain who Lola is and the role she plays in your life.
Lola is a sweet spirit of an 18-year-old woman. She is attached to a porcelain doll because it looks a lot like her! She was born in 1901 and died in 1919 from an illness. All of my friends have had incredible experiences with her. We all love Lola. I often see her walking around in her long white nightgown. Sometimes, she sits in the back of my car, and I feel protected. I believe in spirit guides, but maybe Lola can protect me the way my spirit guides or angels do. She doesn’t talk a whole lot, so I’m not sure. Other mediums have said she is getting stronger and braver. I feel that way as well.

On another note, you’re also venturing into the music world! Talk about your new single, “Heartbeats.”
My new single, “Heartbeats,” is about a toxic relationship I was stuck in. I wanted to turn something negative in my life into a positive. It was difficult to relive those experiences again, as it was an extremely dark time for me. However, I’m so grateful for everyone who supported me through this traumatic time. They helped me turn my pain into something extraordinary. I learned and have grown from this experience. I have found my authentic self because of it. “Heatbeats”  is about moving past that toxicity in your life, no matter what it is. Knowing you do have the strength to get past it and be authentically yourself.

Do you have any advice for people who are afraid to leave a toxic relationship because they don’t want to be alone?
Ask yourself these questions about the person you are with. Do they make you happy? Do they trust you? Do you trust them? Do you see a positive future with this person? If you answered no to any of them, it might be time to rethink some things. It’s like ripping off a bandaid. Things will get better as long as you know your worth. Also,  don’t be afraid to talk to others about your situation. You are strong.

You frequently collaborate with PrideHouseLA! What message do you hope to send to your fans who also identify as LGBTQ+?
Yes, PrideHouseLA are great friends of mine. They helped me have the courage to come out as a pansexual. I hope that anyone part of the LGBTQ+ community knows that you are so loved and accepted here. Be your unique self. If people don’t accept you, there is a huge community that will.

Denim Blù Releases Pop Single “Extraordinary Feel”

Denim Blù, the Toronto-based pop artist with Chinese roots, released his new single, “Extraordinary Feel (feat. Lizzy Clarke)” a hymnal-inspired pop-rock song. This track will be his first of 2021, following his recent entry into releasing original music that began in October 2020 with his single, “Burn” and adjoining remixes.

“Extraordinary Feel” finds inspiration in the Southern US and vibrant African-American church choirs singing gospel and soul music. Both artists came to find strength in each other’s talents when creating the single through a mutual effort.

The single became a magical amalgamation of song creation– crisp songwriting, a powerful vocal, and satisfying production. The gospel elements include prominent organs and splashes of bells over modern synths and classic electric guitar.

Infiltrating almost every component of the song– the lyrics, the production, and the vocal, with religious elements, Denim Blù is able to carry his message of a love that is almost divine in nature. The use of religious themes throughout the track breathes life and gives words to the once indescribable inner emotions.

“‘Extraordinary Feel’ is about the exuberance of falling in love, a love so hard that you’re willing to sacrifice everything for that person, the lyric ‘made a martyr out of me’ is a perfect example of selflessness that comes with this kind of passion.” – Denim Blù

Denim Blù is an emerging Toronto-based singer-songwriter whose identity and music reflect the cultural mosaic that makes Toronto’s music so universally appealing. He is a Chinese-born queer artist whose inspiration is born out of rebellion. Being Chinese, he is not supposed to be making pop music; he is not supposed to be gay; he is not supposed to emote sex. But, he does, proudly.

Denim Blù’s music training and influence span three continents having studied and composed in China, the UK, and Toronto. The product of his music is pure pop fantasy with emotional intrigue, drawing from blues, dance, electronica, and R&B elements, all while being unapologetically queer. His music delivers new-age pop with a story to tell.

The Technicolors Announce New Album Cinema Sublimina and Drop Psychedelic Rock Track, “Nightvisions”

Arizona alt-rock band The Technicolors have returned with the release of their latest single “Nightvisions.” The track is a psychedelic blend of retro rock and pop melding together to form a sultry, energetic groove that nods to 80’s new wave and dance-funk. Along with unveiling “Nightvisions,” the band has announced the release details for their forthcoming LP, Cinema Sublimina, which will be released on October 22, 2021. “Nightvisions” will be accompanied on the album by the band’s leading singles “Howl” and “Dress Up For You,” which they released earlier this year. Check out the visualizer, directed by Eric Halvorsen, for “Nightvisions” here.

When discussing the concept behind “Nightvisions,” vocalist and guitarist Brennan Smiley shares:

We had just returned from being on tour in Brazil, where Austin [Scates] and I had extended our trip after the shows to stay on a farm with some friends. We all ended up back in the studio two days after returning to Arizona, in hopes of capturing some of that dynamic shift between a place so vibrant and unfamiliar and the desert, where we all grew up and that sensation of being on your toes is often hard to come by.

The song is sort of a cacophony of synthetic city lights and moonlit escapism and it definitely tells more of a story than originally intended, which seems to be a common theme. Wrote that one from scratch in the studio in a day after a sort of panic-failure of two different songs not working and all of us feeling pretty ‘stuck’. Sean had the riff – as soon as he started playing Scates sat down at the drums, started hitting this metal stool next to the kit as a part of the groove, Nico came in with his part, Bob rolled tape and it all went from there. It’s too bad we hadn’t been fighting before it all happened because the whole thing felt like a terrible outtake from ‘That Thing You Do’ or something.” – Brennan Smiley of The Technicolors

Since introducing themselves in 2012, Arizona’s The Technicolors have woven a luminous sonic tapestry of fuzz-fueled riffs existing somewhere between the gloomy echoes of 90’s Britpop and the snake-charmed stars of the Sonoran desert. The band’s vast and diverse catalog is highlighted by a slew of critically-praised singles, including: “Space Cadet,” “Tonight You Are Mine,” “Neon Roses,” and “Songbird.”

The band has been fortunate to share the stage with an impressive roster of genre-spanning artists including Matt Maeson, The Maine, Turnover, The Wrecks and Psychedelic Furs.

Be sure to check out the official visualizer for “Nightvisions,” and stream the new single on DSPs everywhere. The forthcoming album, Cinema Sublimina, will be available worldwide on October 22nd of this year.

Hunter Blair Ambrose Releases End of Summer Single, “Alone Together”

New York City-based Pop/R&B artist and songwriter, Hunter Blair Ambrose released her new single, “Alone Together.” The single gives listeners the perfect closing summer bop while they begin preparing for Autumn.

Amid the early days of the coronavirus pandemic and a worldwide lockdown, Hunter Blair Ambrose found solace in songwriting and introspection, using this almost eerily quiet time for creativity and self-reflection.

When creating “Alone Together” she took 1980s bombast and met it with layered synths and soaring melodies after being inspired by The Weeknd’s pandemic era blockbuster album, After Hours. The single came together as a glittering, late summer disco banger with deeply reflective lyrics that a post-pandemic world can certainly relate to.

“ ‘Alone Together’ reflects a universal feeling of isolation, loneliness and melancholia felt around the world during 2020 met with my own reflections of failings in love.”Hunter Blair Ambrose

Inspired by dark, synth-pop, chilling Toronto R&B, and the melodic hip hop of the 2010s, Hunter has created a sound that has been shaped by the music that has been the soundtrack to her life. Influenced by iconic artists such as Lady Gaga, Michael Jackson, Ariana Grande, Drake, David Bowie, Prince, and The Weeknd, Hunter creates immersive and well-rounded music along with an image that is equal parts provocative as they are compelling.

By the age of 17, she had immersed herself in the company of industry giants, working alongside Grammy-award winning musicians and producers such as Narada Michael Walden, and working as an in-house songwriter and studio vocalist Tarpan Studios in San Francisco, CA.

Shortly after the inception of her career, she enrolled in Boston’s Berklee College of Music and quickly emerged as one of the school’s many promising, young talents.

Following her departure from Berklee, from 2017 through 2019, Hunter wrote and produced material with her core creative team for her debut EP, Scorpio Rising (April 2020). The project was supported by the singles, “Right Now” and “November” which featured an interpolation of Lady Gaga’s “Alejandro.”

Listeners can look forward to more singles and music videos dropping this year to immerse them deeper into the world Scorpio Season created when released in April.

Singer-Songwriter, Neska Rose, Releases “Copy & Paste” Music Video

Neska Rose has released her dark and vulnerable single “Copy & Paste,” along with a stunning music video. This is the first single since her powerful debut EP, The Repel of a Young Girl, released in January of this year.

“Copy & Paste is about the relationship you just had enough of. It’s the chance to call them out for all the suffering they put you through. Even though you might’ve gotten something out of them, it starts to get aggravating when everything they say is dehumanizing; their words operate like a copy and paste button.” – Neska Rose

“Copy & Paste” was written and performed by Neska Rose with harmonies by her sister Libi Rose and produced by Ainjel Emme. “Copy & Paste” is a captivating indie-alternative record about being manipulated by a romantic partner. With this track, Neska Rose hopes to validate the feelings of her listeners who have experienced this kind of turbulent relationship and hopes to encourage them to know their worth.

Neska Rose is a precocious and talented teen singer-songwriter and actor based in Los Angeles. She has been interested in pursuing an entertainment career all her life and started by writing and performing at open mic nights at the age of 12. Neska made her official music industry debut in 2020 with her single “Done” and her first-ever EP, The Repel of a Young Girl, which she wrote and produced herself. As a comedic actress, she is most known for the much-beloved character of Gertie on Nickelodeon’s hit mockumentary, Drama Club. Having proven herself as an actress and singer, she was recently signed by Brave Artists Management and AKA Talent Agency. Neska Rose continually showcases her sharp wit and intelligence through her original skits with her sister Libi Rose. Within her original songs, she delivers a feeling and experience in expression rarely found in artists twenty years her senior. With a pen or guitar in hand, Neska is a force to be reckoned with.

Nathan Harrington Touches on the State of the World With Powerful Ballad “Storm Before the Calm”

Emerging singer/songwriter Nathan Harrington is taking us through the depths of what it means to stay united; using love and understanding as an approach in our battles instead of resorting to hate. His newest single and music video, “Storm Before the Calmis available on all DSPs today.

Storm Before the Calm” is an emotional track that reflects on the current state of our divided world. With vocal prowess, Nathan conveys his emotions in a way that has audiences pondering their own personal agenda:

Our modern world is so divided, you can see the fear swelling up all around it. And there’s nothing more frightening than what fear does to people. War, violence, hate, anything to survive; but how about love? For years I have wondered why we never approach our ‘big issues’ with love, but now I know. And it has everything to do with power. If the powers that be would put their egos aside and act in love, you would see that it works. But until then, storm before the calm.” – Nathan Harrington

With a sound that is uniquely his own, Nathan Harrington combines elements of pop, rock, and soul to bring a bold and captivating sound to life. Nathan infuses his music with the cultural elements of Latin music, influenced by his Puerto Rican roots and island artists like Bob Marley and Toots & the Maytals. His musical inspiration helps to hone his tone while contemporary influences like Ed Sheeran, John Mayer and Jason Mraz point him towards the next generation of California singer-songwriters.

When it comes to songwriting – living is Nathan’s biggest intrigue. Whether it’s exploring nature on a hike, surfing the sea, or channeling meditation, the world’s generosity can be translated into his music. Aside from singing, Nathan plays instruments such as guitar, bass, piano, ukulele, and percussion. He’s shared the bill with artists such as Jacob Collier, 2 Chains, Shawn Mendes, Sabrina Carpenter and Jed’s A Millionaire to name a few. Nathan has also been in numerous modeling campaigns, TV shows, and was cast in Jordan Peele’s movie “Us.”

An Interview With Taps On His Release Of ‘Dance All Night’

Tapiwa ‘Taps’ Mugadza, known professionally as Taps, is a Zimbabwean soul and pop singer who began his musical journey at the age of 15. Before making his move to America to study at the Musicians Institue in Hollywood, Taps completed in the Zimbabwean Idol competition where he won third place overall. From there, he went on to work with world-renowned producers such as T-Collar, Moose, Pip Kembo, Boi-1da, and Quincy Jones, writing all of his own music.

With his single release ‘Dance All Night’ out now, we took some time to hear more from Taps. Read below to learn more about Taps, the story behind his latest single, and what’s to come.

Tell us a bit about yourself for those who may not know!

I am an artist from Zimbabwe who is now based in Los Angeles.

When did you fall in love with music? On top of singing, do you play any instruments?

I fell in love with music around 5 years old. I play piano and all guitars!

You grew up as a kid in Zimbabwe, at what point did you move to the US?

I moved to the US when I was 20 turning 21.

Tell us about your latest single ‘Dance All Night’

My latest single is a glimpse into what life was like as a kid for me when we would go camping.

Your latest single ‘Dance All Night’ is heavily connected to your story of growing up in Zimbabwe. Would you say living in LA has had an impact on the music you’re creating?

Absolutely, I think your surroundings definitely have a huge influence on what you create.

Living in LA can be very competitive when it comes to the entertainment industry as a whole. How do you navigate that on a day to day?

It is so easy to be influenced by the hype so I try by all means to stay in my lane and do what I am good at.

What is your favorite part about being in the music industry?

My favorite part is seeing the lives that are impacted by the music I make. Personally, I think it’s the best when people tell you how songs have gotten them through certain situations.

What is the message that you are trying to share through your music?

When I think about all of my music, the message I am trying to share is to enjoy life. Enjoy where you are at! It doesn’t need to be complicated.

What would you like to accomplish with your music?

Eventually, I would like to go back and rebuild a couple of homes that I grew up in. On top of that, I hope my music influences people to be their very best!

For those who are aspiring to be a singer/songwriter, what is the main piece of advice you would give them?

Always be true to who you are! There will always be a lot of hype, stay focused, and don’t lose yourself in it.
