Twelve Days of Music – Day 6 – Brent Walsh

by

Cliché Magazine is counting down to Christmas by sharing
12 holiday interviews with 12 amazing artists!

This time, we’re chatting with Brent Walsh of I the Mighty about his favorite Christmas movie, his Christmas cover of choice, and what his least favorite song is!

Cliché: What is on your holiday wishlist?
Brent Walsh: My holiday wishlist is to spend a lot of quality time with my amazing friends and family, to finish writing this I the Mighty record with a vengeance, and to hopefully get a little help from my parents to put towards my Burning Man ticket for next year.

If you haven’t already, what Christmas song would you cover and why?
I the Mighty covered my favorite Christmas song (“The Christmas Song”) some odd years back for a Bay Area Christmas compilation. It’s is a quirky, pop-punk version of the song with an original ending that I’m pretty proud of. However, I’d love to do a swoon-y take on Nat King Cole’s version of the track. Maybe I’ll do one for fun and throw it on YouTube… The aforementioned is on iTunes and YouTube if anyone wants to listen.

Do you have any holiday traditions?
My holiday traditions include spending the actual holidays with my family and grandparents who I don’t get to see nearly often enough. I also have one big holiday party every year with a bunch of my friends with which we have far too many drinks and an always ridiculous game of white elephant. Last but not least, me and my best friend Brandon have a Christmas “bro-date” of sorts that usually includes drinking my famous “B-Lee’s Make Yourself Hard Cider” as we gander at Christmas lights.

What Christmas movie do you find yourself watching over and over no matter how many times you have seen it?
My Christmas movie has always been The Santa Clause. I grew up being a big Home Improvement and Tim Allen fan. I also frequent the forever classic Home Alone, but only the original.

As a band, do you spend the holidays together?
I the Mighty as individuals always spend Christmas with our families, but we always fit in a Christmas party somewhere beforehand and usually spend New Years together.

Everyone has a favorite holiday song, but which one makes you cringe?
Believe it or not, I’ve never been a fan of “Jingle Bells” or “Jingle Bell Rock”… I guess deep down I just hate Jingle-ing… Also, that song that’s like “All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth…” Ugh.
