Sheeran and the Beatles? Ed Sheeran is Starring in Danny Boyle’s New Film

What if you were the only person who remembered the Beatles? Well, that’s the premise behind Danny Boyle’s upcoming film. The title of the film has yet to be released, but we do know that Ed Sheeran plays himself in the film. This is Sheeran’s largest acting role yet. Previously, he made cameo appearances in Game of Thrones and Bastard Executioner, but never before has Sheeran been needed on set for more than a day. According to Associated Press, Sheeran stated that he “got to actually kind of learn how to act. … With the Game of Thrones thing, that was literally me popping in for a day and making a cameo. Or Bastard Executioner was me popping in for a day. But this was like full days on set, like full 12-hour days.” Although Sheeran hasn’t had much experience behind the camera, he would like to continue to do music-based performances. “I want to make something like [‘Once’]. Something like that where songs dictate the film in a way.”

Ed Sheeran is Starring in Danny Boyle’s New Film Along with Himesh Patel

Richard Curtis’ script follows Himesh Patel, who plays a singer-songwriter discovered by Ed Sheeran. Patel’s character is the only person in the world to remember the famed music of the Beatles. As you can imagine, this inevitably gives him a leg-up in the music world. You may remember Patel from the BBC show EastEnders. But unlike Patel, Sheeran isn’t a seasoned actor. Sheeran admits that making this film was, for him, a “very intense two months.” The pop star explains that the filming took place around his music gigs, so he didn’t have downtime. “I would have four days of gigging and then three days of shooting a film.” If you’re wanting to catch this Beatles-inspired film, keep your eyes out in 2019. Sheeran is currently touring for his 2017 album Divide.

Original ‘Downton Abbey’ Cast to Reunite in ‘Downton Abbey’ Movie

This is what you’ve been waiting for, Downton Abbey fans. Finally, Focus Features and the creator of Downton Abbey, Julian Fellowes, have confirmed that a Downton Abbey movie is officially in the works. Although it’s still in early stages, it’s not too far away! The film is set to release sometime in 2019. Fans have been wondering, are the original cast members returning? The answer, thankfully, is yes. Fortunately, most of the original cast and crew signed on for the project. And according to Julian Fellowes, the film will not jump ahead too far into the future. Fellowes did not wish to put the Downton cast in the 1930s, which would make for quite a fast-forward. If the movie is going to pick up where the show left off, then the film’s time period should be between the years 1926-1930. All of this is great news for Downton Abbey fans!

Which Actors Are Reprising Their Roles in the Downton Abbey movie?

Although the press release did not officially slate who will be starring in the film, Focus Features did say that “the original principal cast from the acclaimed television series” will be reprising their roles. And thanks to various social media posts from some of the stars, we can all presume that the list includes Michelle Dockery (Lady Mary), Laura Carmichael (Lady Edith), Joanne Froggatt (Anna Bates), Hugh Bonneville (Lord Grantham), Elizabeth McGovern (Cora Crawley), Lesley Nicol (Mrs. Patmore), and Michael Fox (Andy). We do know that Rose, played by Lily James, will not be a returning character in the movie. At the moment, it is unconfirmed that Maggie Smith will be reprising her role as the Dowager Countess. However, if she doesn’t, many fans will be sorely disappointed. At any rate, with most of the original cast, the Downton Abbey movie is something to look forward to in 2019.

Everything You Need to Know About Top Gun 2, Including the Reunion of Maverick and Iceman

Keep your eyes out next summer for the return of daredevil aviator Pete “Maverick” Mitchell to the big screen. The sequel to the cult classic 1980s film Top Gun is officially titled Top Gun: Maverick. Scheduled for release in July 2019, Joseph Kosinski—whose recent film credits include Only the Brave, Oblivion, and TRON: Legacy—is directing the much-anticipated sequel. In case you haven’t caught up with recent developments, here is everything you need to know about Top Gun 2, including the reunion of Maverick and Iceman.

Top Gun 2 brings us the aviators in the modern day. With technology advances, the fighter pilots’ jobs are changing—which of course, creates some problems. The sequel is quite the undertaking, as the original Top Gun film is a definitive film of the ‘80s. Fans of the movie are still quoting lines and mourning the loss of Goose! It’s no wonder that the sequel will have to bring a lot to the table to convince us. While there are many who will go see the movie for nostalgia’s sake alone, it’s also safe to say that the sequel will also be under high scrutiny from skeptics.

Will the Sequel Stack Up For Fans?

Obviously, the answer remains unknown until July 2019, when Top Gun: Maverick hits theaters. But luckily for us, some key players of the original crew are reuniting to make the movie. The obvious cast members returning? None other than Tom Cruise as Maverick and Val Kilmer as Tom “Iceman” Kazansky, of course. Some of the off-screen crew veterans are also back. For instance, Harold Faltermeyer is updating the original film score for the movie—and if it were any other way, surely people would have something to say about it. Jerry Bruckheimer, one of the producers of Top Gun, is also involved in Top Gun: Maverick’s production. In a past interview with HuffPost, Bruckheimer elaborated on the film’s plot: “The concept is, basically, are the pilots obsolete because of drones? Cruise is going to show them that they’re not obsolete. They’re here to stay.”

The Top Gun sequel would be nothing without the return of Tom Cruise and Val Kilmer. However, there have been some concerns about Kilmer’s health after his recent struggle with throat cancer. Kilmer did not talk publicly about his health struggles until last year. In a recent interview with Extra, Cruise discussed working with Kilmer again. Commenting on the status of the actor’s health, Cruise stated that Kilmer is “doing really well.” At any rate, fans are glad to have Kilmer back and doing well.

Top Gun 2 was in talks back in 2010. By 2012, location scouting had begun. However, due to the unfortunate passing of original Top Gun director, Tony Scott, the sequel’s momentum ceased. Now, the sequel is nearly 33 years. What a trip! However, with a cast and crew as strong as this, Top Gun 2 is promising.
