Top Beauty Looks From NYFW

by

New York Fashion Week is one of the many big events that take place in the city. The streets are filled with fashionable individuals rocking high-end designers or even slaying the sidewalks with their very own looks. However, the models aren’t the only ones dressed to impress; from popping, bright colors to mink or leather, the city itself becomes a fashion show during this time. As much as we love viewing videos or photos from the shows and admiring the pieces from the designers, many people don’t acknowledge the beauty theme for each show. Makeup and hair play just as an important a role as the pieces from the collections of any fashion show. The themes can go from simple and natural to bold and dark. Every model is beautiful in their own way, which makes the beauty part of the game an even more interesting feature to the runway shows. While the makeup and hair may be similar, every model wears them differently. That being said, here are the top beauty looks from NYFW.

Pamella Roland SS18 X Frédéric Fekkai

For her SS18 collection, Pamella Roland brought in Stefanie Francois, the lead stylist at Frédéric Fekkai, and created a stunningly sleek and clean hairstyle and makeup that surely brought the collection to life. The entire look was created with Frédéric Fekkai’s collection The One and was inspired by highlighting every model’s high points on the face as well as embracing their natural features.

Banana Republic SS18, by Stila Cosmetics

This gorgeous look was created by Sarah Lucero, Stila Cosmetics, and Global Executive Director of Creative Artistry for Banana Republic. The look featured a dewy face and used Stila’s Stay All Day Waterproof Brow Color to shape the brows. For the eyes, Lucero opted to go for bold and lengthy lashes all while staying on the natural side. The look is finished with flushed cheeks and soft pink lips.

Brock SS18

The models had gorgeous burgundy-smokey eyes with a touch of bronze. The look reflected a romantic feel that brought the entire collection of floral and patterns together.

Jeremy Scott SS18

While the makeup here was minimal, the clothing is what did all the talking. Even though there wasn’t any eyeshadow, lipstick, foundation, blush, etc., the models had crystals glued below their low lashes for a pop of shine. Certainly creative and unique for a no-makeup look.

Fenty x Puma SS18

The Fenty x Puma collection definitely was one that was most talked about. And, yes, you guessed it: the models wore Rihanna’s makeup line Fenty Beauty to give them a blinding glow on the runway. A highlighter from the line was placed on the models’ cheekbones, eyelids, and the inner corners of their eyes, making every model on the runway a shining star.

4 Stunning Beauty Looks From NYFW

by

Picture crowds of impeccably dressed people everywhere you turn, the constant sound of cameras snapping pictures, and the feel of the wind whipping across your face on the East Coast—it’s just another season of New York Fashion Week. I had the pleasure, along with Editor in Chief of Cliché, Megan Portorreal, to cover backstage beauty for a few FW16 collections. These included Creatures of Comfort, Rachel Antonoff, Banana Republic, and Babyghost, which all featured breathtaking and unique looks that effortlessly represented the designer’s latest fashion lines. Now, I obviously couldn’t keep any of this to myself nor how you can recreate these easy-to-achieve looks right at home! Yes, you read that right. Check out four stunning beauty looks from NYFW and learn how you can recreate them all on your own, thanks to tips from top-notch stylists.
Creatures of Comfort
The FW16 collection of Creatures of Comfort was all about the cool girl style. Strong, bold brows, neutral eye shadows, and rouge tones on the cheeks and lips were all created by the talent of Shiseido. The hair tied into the makeup look with a fresh and romantic feel by incorporating textured waves with a deep side part that was pinned back. Together these elements created an effortless, chic look that any city girl could easily master. Learn how you can replicate the show’s hairstyle yourself with tips from Davines’ lead hair stylist, Joseph DiMaggio.

  1. Quickly blow-dry the hair, pulling at the root in an upwards motion to create volume.
  1. Part the hair in a deep side part.
  1. Start with a 1⁄2 inch section at the nape of the head and spray the hair with NEW Davines Your Hair Assistant Perfecting Hairspray as you go through each section of hair.
  1. Using a 1.5 inch flat iron, create “push waves” by clasping the flat iron starting 1⁄4 of the way down from the root. Then twist your wrist over, pulling the hair vertically and rotating as you go.
  1. Hold the tip of the section with your other hand by pulling the remaining hair in the opposite direction.
  1. Create these push waves all over the entire head.
  1. Finish the look with NEW Davines Your Hair Assistant Volume Creator and Brush all over the hair to enhance the waves
  1. Place a bobby pin on the heavier side of the part to hold the hair back. Give the waves a final tousle with your fingers.

Rachel Antonoff
The FW16 collection of Rachel Antonoff was inspired by a 1950’s secretary, but with a modern twist. Lots of lashes, stained lips, rosey cheeks, and the cutest manicures took center stage in the one-of-a-kind musical performance Antonoff created for her collection’s presentation. Makeup looks were created by M.A.C, while the nails were courtesy of Kiss Products. The performance showcased not only one, but three laidback, yet sophisticated hairstyles. Learn how you can recreate one of Antonoff’s hairstyles, the soft bun, thanks to Redken’s lead hair stylist, Linh Nguyen.

  1. Prep wet hair with Redken Full Frame 07 Volumizing Mousse for added texture and hold.
  2. Blow dry hair smooth, leaving the natural texture.
  3. Pull the hair back into a low ponytail, keeping the hair soft and slightly loose against the head.
  4. Twist the ponytail lightly; wrap and secure into a bun.
  5. Using Braid 03 Defining Lotion on your fingertips, put a finishing touch on some of the loose hair going back into the bun.
  6. Finish with Fashion Work 12 Versatile Spray.

Banana Republic
The FW16 collection of Banana Republic encompassed the undone, yet put together vibes that French girls pull off so well. Redken’s team had taken a trip to Paris that was the main inspiration for the hairstyles they created. For the women, two different looks were chosen: a low ponytail and a side part with loose “S waves.” For the men, their hair was styled as if they had just ran their fingers through it, in a cool way of course, by having textured locks. As for makeup, a flawless complexion, striking cat eye, and lips in red/pink tones was Banana Republic’s beauty look known as ‘Camille’ by Stila Cosmetics. Learn how you can create Banana Republic’s “S waves” step-by-step from Redken’s lead hair stylist, Brian Buenaventura.

  1. Prep the hair with Redken Guts 10 Volume Spray Foam and blow dry section by section, giving the hair volume and texture.
  1. Take a 1 1/4″ curling iron and create an “S wave” by angling the iron vertically for a more natural curl. Repeat throughout the hair.
  1. Give the hair a perfect middle part, leaving loose hairs in front.
  1. Gather the rest of the hair into a low ponytail.
  1. Take a 6-inch black elastic cord and loop onto the hair once. Allow the ends of the two elastic strands to fall and blend into the ponytail.
  1. Complete the look with Redken Quick Dry 18 Instant Finishing Spray.

Babyghost
For the FW16 collection of Babyghost a dark, moody, and youthful appearance was done by Shiseido for makeup and Redken for hair. Dewy skin, full brows, and a smokey eye created a striking beauty look that was inspired by Babyghost’s name itself. For the hair, an intricate up-do styled with twists and braids was designed.

Spring Hair Trends Inspired By Fashion Week

by

With the extreme cold we’ve had this winter, it’s no wonder if our desires to be comfortable and warm have triumphed our desires to look cute. The best way to lose those winter blues is by creating some change to our daily routines, such as switching up our hairstyles. Not only is it cost effective, but it’s also an easy way to quickly change an entire look. As always, Fashion Week provided us with the latest up-and-coming styles. This year, professional hairstylists showed us some seriously gorgeous hairdos on the runway that are perfect for the spring. Here are some spring hair trends inspired by Fashion Week!

The “Polished Ponytail”

Erin Fetherston’s Autumn/Winter 2015 Collection was inspired by her fondness for fairytales. Her collection is both “spritely and sophisticated” as it offers gowns, dresses, and tailored separates with a “woodland” inspired palette that includes mossy greens and poinsettia reds. Blackberry and saffron colors add warmth to her ivory- and ebony-centered collection. These whimsical prints and embroideries are reminders to the designer’s ideal of the natural world. TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu created the “polished ponytail,” which gives that contemporary, ladylike, imaginative, and unique quality, which greatly complimented Fetherston’s collection.
Jeanie’s Tips:

  1. On damp hair, apply TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse to roots and hairline, TRESemmé Runway Collection Get Sleek Blow Dry Balm on lengths and ends, and blow dry straight.
  2. Mist in TRESemmé Runway Collection Get Sleek Heat Protect Spray and touch up hair with a flat iron for a sleek finish.
  3. Make a center part and separate hair into three sections. First, create two small ponytails with gold string tied behind each ear, then gather the remaining hair into a ponytail at the nape of neck.
  4. Take two small ponytails and tie a knot on top of the larger ponytail, then wrap the length around the base. Finish with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray.

Banana Republic Summer 2015 Hair

by

When newly appointed Creative Director Marissa Webb debuted the edgy Banana Republic Summer 2015 collection earlier this month, she didn’t just debut stylish new clothes, but ultra chic hair styles to boot. The mastermind behind the looks, TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu, styled the models’ hair in trendy twists and loose waves, giving a modern twist to a classic. Below, Syfu gives us tips on how to recreate the styles on your own.

Double Twist:

  1. Apply TRESemmé Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse on damp hair and rough-dry ends for volume and texture. Finish blow-dry by using a round brush to smooth the texture at the hairline.
  2. Curl hair vertically, using a 1-inch curling iron, to create loose waves. Once curled, brush back the hair to create texture and lightly spray TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray.
  3. Gather hair at the hairline and split into two sections. Begin twisting hair at the crown, working your way to the nape of the neck and secure with bobby pins, leaving the lengths of the hair loose. Repeat twist with the remaining hair.
  4. Gently pull loose hair around the hairline to frame the face and finish by spraying TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo to mattify the texture.

Loose Waves:

  1. Prep damp hair with TRESemmé Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse and dry using the diffuser attachment on the blow-dryer.
  2. Create a deep side part and liberally curl hair, using a 1-inch curling iron, to create a tousled wave.
  3. Mist look with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray for a light hold and tuck hair behind both ears, leaving piecey strands in front.
  4. Mattify look with TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo.
