Beyoncé Announces That She’s Pregnant With Twins

Hello, February! New day, new month, new baby news?! Not just one baby, but two!

In case you haven’t heard, Queen Bey is carrying twins and Blue Ivy is going to be a big sister two times over as the Carters expand their family.

This isn’t the first time Beyoncé and husband Jay-Z have made the world stop with their baby news. The announcement of Blue Ivy at the 2011 VMAs was one for the books. Beyoncé literally dropped the mic and a baby bomb at the same damn time after her crowd rocking performance of Love on Top.

How do you top that announcement? Simple: be expecting with twins and upload a picture to Instagram.

Now, the question is will they be boys or girls? And what will the names be?

From Cliché to the Carters, congratulations!

Watch Beyonce Get in “Formation”

In the only way a true queen knows how, Beyoncé released a surprise video for her surprise single “Formation” yesterday afternoon. The single and video, which is available for free on Tidal right now, is unlike anything “King B” has released before. Much like the bold, confident and honest era of “***Flawless,” Beyoncé is back to prove just how much the music industry and pop culture needs her. The video was shot in New Orleans and is, in many ways, an ode to city, but it also shares a bigger message.

When the video begins, it opens with a white screen that reads “Parental advisory: explicit lyrics” and then it cuts quickly to Beyoncé, who is crouching on top on a New Orleans police car that is partially submerged in water, as Messy Mya, the late YouTube and social media celebrity, asks “What happened after New Orleans?” This question lends itself to powerful imagery of houses submerged in water and art depicting black men, women, and children just before we catch a glimpse of Blue Ivy playing with two other little black girls. There is a quiet juxtaposition between the showcasing of the submerged houses and the clearly intricate and expensive dresses and outfits that Beyoncé and her dancers wear throughout the video,  a promise of sorts that whatever crisis the people of New Orleans and other often marginalized groups of people go through, they will come out of it on the other side in their Sunday best.

The entire video from that point on is a celebration of their culture, but what makes this video much different from Beyoncé’s previous videos is this: “Formation” is unapologetically black and openly political, from its imagery of a small boy dancing in front of an armed police force who raise their hands in a #DontShoot salute, to a wall with the spray painted words “Stop Shooting Us,” and a completely submerged New Orleans police car. With lyrics that celebrate distinguishingly black features like “I like my baby hair with baby hair and afros / I like my Negro nose with Jackson 5 nostrils,” Beyoncé is simultaneously celebrating herself and all black people while quieting her haters who believed and said for years that she was ashamed of being black.

Despite the love for the video, it must be pointed out that clips from the video were reportedly used without permission. Writer/Director Abteen Bagheri and LA-based music producer Chris Black say that Beyoncé’s team used clips from their three-year-old documentary despite the fact that Bagheri apparently told them no. The video was directed by Melina Matsoukas who worked with Beyoncé on “Pretty Hurts,” and after a bit of back and forth and some radio silence from Beyoncé’s camp, Matsoukas tweeted out her thanks to Black and Bagheri, who later tweeted out a thanks to her and Beyoncé for the credit posted on Twitter. Credit issues aside,  with “Formation,” Beyonce is making one thing clear: she loves her blackness and yours, too.

Celebrity Halloween Costumes

Happy belated Halloween, everybody!

Halloween was a few days ago, but we’re still thinking about celebrity Halloween costumes! This year celebrities went all out with their costumes, dressing as everything from major fashion icons to pop music singers.

Kim Kardarshian, according to E! Online, started Halloween off as a skeleton in a sleek bodysuit, face makeup, and slicked back hair.

The reality star later changed costumes and posed as Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, alongside her daughter North, who dressed as Vogue contributing editor Andre Leon Talley. Kardashian’s pal Joyce Bonelli and her son played along, too, dressing as Vogue creative director Grace Coddington and a pint-sized Karl Lagerfield.

How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris dressed up as The Riddler with his family, all of whom masqueraded as Gotham City characters. His husband, David Burtka, dressed up as The Joker, and his twins Gideon and Harper wore Batman and Batgirl costumes.

Superstar Beyoncé, on the other hand, started off the holiday in theme with her daughter Blue Ivy. Beyoncé dressed as Janet Jackson while her child wore a Michael Jackson get-up. Later on, Beyoncé changed into a Frida Kahlo costume.

So which celebrity Halloween costume did you like best?

Personally, I think Heidi Klum takes the cake on all costume contests. The model never fails to pull of an incredibly intricate Halloween disguise. This year Klum dressed as a butterfly.

I can’t wait to see what Halloween costumes the stars dress as next year!

Beyonce and Jay Z Renew Vows

Divorce? Whats that? Crazy in love is more like it!

That’s right, Beyonce and Jay Z renew vows amid months of speculation and divorce rumors— the Carter reign continues! A source tells People Magazine that “They did have major problems, but they worked it out and they’ve renewed their vows.”

Not only are the two stronger than before and putting those rumors of a split to rest, but they are also reportedly in search of a new home. Where, might you ask? In the City of Love aka La Ville-Lumuire (City of Light), but love is more appropriate here— Paris of course!

They’ve been spotted in and out of Paris for weeks now and according to People, they’ve explored properties in areas near Seine, the gated community known as “Millionaire’s Row” and Elysee Place.

Finally, some positivity in a sea of negative Nancys. Let’s take a moment to applaud the Beyhive for their undying affection for Beyonce and the rest of the Carter clan,
