3 Iconic Becca Cosmetics Products to Stock Up On Before They Close

Becca Cosmetics, a cruelty free makeup brand owned by Estee Lauder and sold at Sephora and Ulta, has a cult-like following and is known for its innovative highlighters. Unfortunately, Becca Cosmetics is shutting down permanently in September, largely due to the pandemic. According to an official statement posted on their website in February: “At BECCA, an accumulation of challenges, together with the global impact of COVID-19, has sadly been more than our business can withstand, and we have had to make the heartbreaking decision to close down the BECCA brand at the end of September 2021.” However, it’s not too late to still rock a glowy face full of the brand. Here are 3 iconic Becca Cosmetics products to stock up on before they close, and dupes for when they do.

1. Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter ($38)

Perhaps the product that launched Becca into the public eye, the Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter is unlike any other, because it melts down into a creamy finish once applied, despite its powdery texture. Their signature color, Champagne Pop, works great with warm or olive skin tones. Apply with a brush for the best results.

Dupe: ColourPop Super Shock Highlighter ($8)

This buttery formula is a perfect contender for The Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed Highlighter, because it shares the unique powder to cream texture. There are currently 17 shades on the ColourPop website, ranging from a medium brown for a contour effect to a luminous purple if you’re going for the space girl look. However, this one should be applied with the fingers for the most effective pigmentation.

2. Ultimate Lipstick Love ($24)

Coming in a whopping 40 shades, the best aspect of this product is the fact that it is one of the only lipstick shade ranges on the market that comes with an indication of its undertone (warm, cool, neutral) so you can find the perfect match for your skin. Its creamy, hydrating formula is perfect for those who suffer from dry lips. It even has a magnetic casing so you never have to worry about losing the top half of the tube!

Dupe: Clinique Even Better Pop Lip Colour Foundation ($20)

Coming in an impressive 30 colors, this lipstick also helps you find your perfect shade and undertone match to your skin by using Clinique Shade Match Science. It comes in three “dress codes”:  Naked, a soft, neutral sheer tint for the natural look, Casual, a step up between tame and dramatic for an everyday look, and Glam, an intense, in your face pop of colour that you can see across the room.

3. Zero No Makeup Virtual Foundation ($36)

This innovative product is so subtle that it is difficult  to argue whether or not it qualifies as makeup or skin care, with Becca claiming that it’s the perfect hybrid of the two. Its effects are so subtle that even straight cis men report wearing it without embarrassment. The blurring matte finish is perfect for those with oily skin, and only takes a pea size dollop to get the full effects!

Dupe (Kind of): Maybelline Face Studio Master Prime ($10)

Becca’s Zero No Makeup Virtual Foundation is so unique that there is simply no other product like it on the market. While there are other mattifying skin products that can give you a blurring effect and help soothe your imperfections, they’re not labeled as foundations. However, there are some lightly pigmented primers that work similarly and can be worn without foundation for a subtle effect. The Maybelline Face Studio Master helps with pore minimizing and works best for those with oily skin.

Should You Add Oxygen to Your Skincare Routine?

Everyone says that drinking a bunch of water will solve all of your skin problems (which, unfortunately, is definitely fake news), but what about adding another natural element to your routine? Enter, oxygen. The concept of something that is as seemingly arbitrary as oxygen paired with skincare may seem silly and even gimmicky. However, there is science behind oxygen that backs up its claims of providing consumers with more glowy, rejuvenated skin. Something to note is that since oxygen is a gas, it can’t be the stand-alone ingredient in a skincare product. So, oxygen is usually paired with hydrogen peroxide or other ingredients to stimulate it into action. Depending on your preference, you may want to avoid using a product that contains hydrogen peroxide and opt instead for an oxygenating product that uses ingredients like vitamin C or calcium to generate oxygen flow in your skin. Some gorgeous products (I just want to be Johnathan from Queer Eye, OK) to try that are hydrogen peroxide-free include: Glam Glow’s BUBBLESHEET Oxygenating Deep Cleanse Mask, Miss Spa’s Oxygenating Bubble Mask, and Clinique’s Pep-Start Double Bubble Purifying Mask.

You’ll notice that all of these product names share the word bubble. This is because oxygenating products tend to start off as a gel-like formula when you first apply them and then, over a period of about ten to fifteen minutes, bubble up, giving your face a Squidward-like appearance as a girl pointed out, earning her a viral moment last year. The product that she used was this Korean one that you can purchase on Amazon. Personally, I’ve used the Miss Spa mask and am now dying to try Glam Glow’s version that also has the added element of charcoal in it. A warning: when the mask begins to bubble up you can definitely feel the product working, which may be satisfying to some, but can also give off a crawling sensation to others. From my experience, I thought that the bubbles just tickled, but I could see how other people might find them to be annoying. However, even if the bubbles bother you, I recommend getting through at least one mask session because the instant results are so worth it. Oxygen promotes blood circulation, which can stimulate cell growth and regeneration, which is great if you’re looking to slow down the aging process. More benefits include pore minimization and lifting dullness and discoloration from your skin. Overall, if you’re looking to revive your complexion, give oxygen a try and see what kind of life it can breathe into your skin.

Stila Magnificent Metals Glitter & Glow ($24, stilacosmetics.com)

Stila has recently released the ultimate shimmer eyeshadow with a long-wearing liquid formula. They recommend using it with eyeshadow or by itself and blending it onto the lid with your finger. The product is formulated without parabens, sulfates, or phthalates. I always gravitate towards more neutral shades with brown and pink undertones, so it’s no surprise that my favorite shades are Kitten Karma, a rich champagne color, and Rose Gold Retro, a shimmery rose-gold shadow. However, Stila offers a variety of shades showcasing bright pinks, blacks, blues, and golds. The shades offer a high-impact shimmer and could be used for the inner corners or center of the eye for an everyday look, or all over the lid for a girls’ night out.

What to Do When Starting a Skincare Regimen

Some of us are blessed with perfect, acne-free skin that is always clear and never causes any problems. The majority, however, are not that lucky. It’s estimated that 80% of people experience acne outbreaks between the ages of 11-30. Of course, genetics or your environment play a big role in how your skin behaves, but there are things you can do also to put your best face forward. Here’s how to begin a great skincare regimen:
Healthy Habits
No matter how great your routine is or what products you use not leading a healthy lifestyle will always have a negative impact on your skin.  This means cutting out habits that can trigger your skin’s problem areas. Cut out smoking because it causes under eye bags, wrinkles, and an overall dullness to your skin. Also foods that are salty, non-organic, or fatty will have a direct impact on the glow of your skin and will definitely increase acne.
Routine is Key
With the multitude of products and methods available it may seem that achieving a clear face is a really complicated process, but it doesn’t have to be. Getting your routine down is the most important part. Breaking things down into 3 steps and repeating them in the morning and night will ensure that a change will appear not only your skin’s clarity, but it’s overall healthiness as well.
Every morning you should first cleanse your face. Then, lightly exfoliate to remove the build up from your sleep. Lastly, use a light moisturizer and apply sunscreen to your face and you’re ready to start your day. At night, these steps are repeated (sans the sunscreen) to bring things full circle. How easy is that? These steps apply regardless of what type of skin you have.
Less is More
Putting on a face full of makeup is necessary from time to time, but don’t make this a habit. If you must pile on the foundation make it a light one. MAC, Maybelline, and Clinique all make lightweight foundations that won’t weigh on your skin and cause breakouts. Also, break the habit of sleeping with makeup on; you’ll regret it when pimples start taking over your face.

Using these easy tips are guaranteed to make a HUGE change in the way your skin looks and feels. Once you get your routine down, you will be well on your way to confident, clear skin living.

Five Must-Have Masks

Does your face lack that subtle glow in the morning? Is it in need of a deep hydration or cleanse? Or is it just in need of some rejuvenation? Whatever the problem may be, there is a facial mask ready to help. It’s important to take care of your skin; on a daily basis, your skin comes in contact with so many obstacles, including pollution, UV rays, makeup, and oils. That is why your face needs all the help it can get. Read on for a list of our five must-have masks this season.

Freeman® Beauty Avocado & Oatmeal Clay Mask
This product is great for oily skin (it is a clay mask, after all). Once you apply the mask on your face and let it sit for 3 to 5 minutes, you can watch as it absorbs all the oils. Plus, you can get this item for a steal—it rings up just under $4 at your local drugstore!
Freeman® Beauty Charcoal & Black Sugar Polishing Mask
Yes, it is another Freeman® Beauty Product! They all just work so well. This mask works in two ways: the charcoal helps to absorb oils and impurities without over-drying your face, while the black sugar helps in scrubbing away dead skin cells, leaving your face feeling soft and refreshed.
If you want to talk about the best hydrating mask out there, this will be it. This mask is infused with hydrating ingredients such as ground olive leaves, honey, coconut, ginger root, and much more. This mask can be used during the day for 10 to 20 minutes, or it can be used overnight, depending on the results you are looking for.
boscia Luminizing Black Mask
This mask detoxifies, purifies, brightens, and refines pores, so this is definitely one of the best masks out there if you are looking for a grand rejuvenation. Made from all natural ingredients, this mask leaves your face feeling softer and looking brighter, and it minimizes the look of your pores. It’s a win/win!
CLINIQUE Acne Solutions
If you’re still dealing with problematic inflamed acne and blemishes, this formula helps to heal and prevent breakouts. This clay-based mask deeply cleanses and unclogs pores while getting rid of oils all in five minutes. It will instantly leave your skin feeling refreshed and soft, so give it a shot.

SPF Beauty Products

Beat the sun’s harsh rays with SPF beauty products that will have your face both protected and looking good this summer. The sun is at its strongest during this season, making your skin more sensitive and at greater risk for damage. Let’s make our chances of getting sunburn or skin damage zero to none! We’ve researched and compiled a list of summer SP beauty products to keep your skin protected from the sun while still maintaining that beautiful, healthy glow.

(Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen SPF 20 $10.99, Ulta.com)
(Aveeno Protect + Hydrate Lotion Sunscreen SPF 20 $10.99, Ulta.com)
To keep your skin from drying quickly in the summer heat, make sure to apply moisturizer in the morning and at night. Ingredients in moisturizers, such as dimethicone, lock water into your skin cells, making your skin feel refreshed. Popular beauty brands, including Olay and Aveeno, have created best-selling SPF moisturizers known for their extreme wear in the summer months.

Moisturizers and sunscreens have fairly similar jobs. However, sunscreens are made specifically to protect your skin with ingredients to block the sun’s rays. Shiseido’s Ultimate Sun Protection Lotion can be used on both your face and your body to nourish your skin. It’s a top sunscreen contender in protecting your skin from damage like sunburn and premature signs of aging. A plus with this sunscreen is that it is water-resistant, allowing you to take a swim without worrying about sunburn! Hampton Sun’s hypoallergenic SPF 15 Sunscreen, which contains ingredients like aloe vera and vitamins A, C, and E, is a bit different in its application; its a mist that can be sprayed on quickly and easily.
(Tarte Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 20 Sunscreen $36, Sephora.com)
BB/CC Cream
No one can stand feeling like they have too much makeup on in the summer. BB or CC creams are a great solution to this problem, providing coverage to blemishes and evening your skin tone without the heavy weight of a foundation. Tarte’s Amazonian Clay BB Tinted Moisturizer has been raved about over and over again by beauty gurus everywhere for its long-lasting, water-based formula. Available in 7 shades, it protects skin with a 20 SPF, and one of its main ingredients, chamomile extract, helps treat and heal dry skin. Clinique’s Moisture Surge CC Cream is known for it’s moisturizing and creamy consistency. It’s easy to smooth into your skin–color-correcting it and creating a natural glow–is oil-free, and has an SPF!
(Physicians Formula Mineral Wear Oh So Radiant! Powder SPF 20 $13.99, Ulta.com)
Face Powder
Physician’s Formula has released a face powder with SPF 20 that we just couldn’t leave out: Mineral Wear Oh So Radiant! Powder. Yes, it’s a face powder. We were shocked too. It’s a translucent, hypoallergenic mineral powder that allows your skin to feel as if you’re wearing no makeup at all. It’s the perfect powder to have in your beach bag for a spontaneous outing after a day in the sun!
