Have Mercy at The Social in Orlando, FL: Photo Gallery

The room at the popular Orlando music venue, The Social, filled up quickly as the doors opened and the house lights dimmed. After the opening band finished their last song and exited stage left, Baltimore’s Have Mercy entered. They did one last 30-second soundcheck as the crowd crammed into the small space in front of the stage to witness Have Mercy deliver a raw, intimate, and passion-driven set.

Though the area was small, the heart for music was massive. Frontman Brian Swindle sang with everything he had and so did the people in the audience, and the rest of the band put all of their energy into creating a melodic space where fans could have the experience they had been waiting for since the announcement of the tour.
Watching everyone connect in the room and sing lyrics that meant something to each person individually, but meant so much more collectively, was an incredible sight and sound. There was no doubt that strangers that entered The Social left with a sense of community.
Moments like these are what make concerts what they are.

Beyonce and Jay Z Share Personal Home Videos

Have you seen the new “On the Run” video? If you have, you’ll know that Beyonce and Jay Z share personal home videos with their fans during their “On the Run” concert tour.

According to Huffington Post, Beyonce shared a video on YouTube last Sunday of a clip from Beyonce and Jay Z’s HBO concert special. The clip, which shows Beyonce and Jay Z performing their songs “Young Forever” and “Halo,” also features intimate home videos of the two. Among the clips presented, the video depicts a young Jay Z and Beyonce’s early relationship, the pair’s matching “IV” tattoos, and their private 2008 wedding ceremony.

The video also gives viewers a rare glimpse into the power couple’s home life, specifically in regard to their daughter, Blue Ivy. In one of the scenes, Beyonce is shown in a hospital bed holding the couple’s newborn child, and, in another, Blue Ivy learns to walk.

It’s almost surprising that the couple released such personal videos–including one of a topless, pregnant Beyonce–to the public, since the details of their wedding have been kept secret for so long. But the couple gave fans an inside look at their lives on their own terms, without nosy paparazzi or a big magazine spread, and, for that, I respect their decision. I can’t imagine a more tasteful and artistic way for Beyonce and Jay-Z to share their lives with their fans!

A little bit rock and roll, a tendency toward folk, and a whole lot of heart- that is what best describes the husband and wife duo of JOHNNYSWIM. The folk-rock duo of Abner Ramirez and Amanda Sudano-Ramirez, who have been playing together since 2006, started off a nationwide tour April 5, playing at The Ark in Ann Arbor, MI. Playing to a sold out audience of all ages, the energetic couple played many hits from their 2013 Heart Beats EP and their upcoming album Diamonds at the JOHNNYSWIM concert.
Backed up by only a bass guitar and drums for a few songs, the majority of the sound came from Sudano and Ramirez’s voices, with Ramirez accompanying on acoustic guitar. The group started off on an upbeat note with their first couple songs, but then slowed the pace down a bit. In between sets the duo seemed excited yet completely at ease on stage, explaining meanings behind song lyrics and even sharing personal stories- such as the story of their engagement in Paris, which prompted them to write the song ‘Paris in June.’
As they came to their final songs, the group went right back to the folk-rock hybrid that seems to define their music best. The couple ended their set with the hopeful and optimistic ‘Live While We’re Young,’ the groups own personal take on achieving all their goals in life, and a rousing cover of Britney Spears ‘Dance Until The World Ends.’ It is safe to say that this duo will soon be heard all over the radio and making the top of the charts soon enough. The Diamonds LP is available for pre-order on iTunes, and is out everywhere April 29.

Take Me Downtown Tour: Concert Review

Country music, pop music, hymns, covers, originals…at Lady Antebellum’s Take Me Downtown Tour, they had it all. It’s rare to hear such a wide variety of music from one group at a concert, but they played to their strengths making it turn out wonderfully.
The concert started off with opening act Kacey Musgraves, fresh off two Grammy wins. Kacey has such a unique singing and songwriting style, and she captivated the audience. In an arena full of twenty thousand people, all you could hear was the sound of Kacey and her guitar. Kip Moore followed, and he definitely knew how to work the crowd. With hits like “Hey Pretty Girl” and “Somethin’ ‘Bout A Truck”, Kip had all the girls swooning.
Nearly two hours into the show, Lady Antebellum finally took the stage, opening with their new single, “Compass”. Hillary and Charles had flawless vocals throughout the entire show, and their voices together sounded absolutely magical. The two, along with third member Dave, ran through many of their hits, and introduced fans to some of their newer material.
The trio put on stellar performances throughout the night, adding new flares to old songs, mashing up some of their hits, and even ending with a medley of “Wake Me Up” by Avicii and “Cups (When I’m Gone)” from Pitch Perfect. Perhaps the most well-received performance of the night was “Need You Now”, the song that started it all for Lady Antebellum.
Overall, the concert was phenomenal. Kacey Musgraves and Kip Moore both bring something new and unique to country music, and the opening act slots gave them the chance to showcase that. The members of Lady Antebellum are all extremely talented musicians and amazing performers, and the concert was unforgettable. If the tour is coming to a city near you, please, let them take you downtown!!
