Freeform Confirms ‘Party of Five’ Reboot, Orders a Pilot

Joining the list of small screen reboots, Party of Five is officially in the works. Freeform greenlit the series this week and ordered a pilot episode for a Party of Five reboot. The original Party of Five premiered on Fox in 1994 and ran for six seasons. Matthew Fox, Lacey Chabert, Scott Wolf, Neve Campbell and Jennifer Love Hewitt all starred in the series as the orphaned Salinger siblings. The reboot has been in development since January. The ’90s Fox drama follows the Salinger kids after losing their parents in a drunk driving accident. From there on, the show deals with difficult life issues like drug abuse, cancer and death. But will the new drama just be an updated take on the same story? Probably not.

Freeform Confirms ‘Party of Five’ Reboot, But What Will Change?

As with any series that is signed on for a reboot some years later, the new Party of Five will take a more modern focus. Instead of the Salingers, the family will be the Buendias children. Like the Salingers, the Buendias will lose their parents, but not due to a car accident. The new Party of Five will shift focus to the current deportation issues, as the kids struggle to keep the family going after their parents are deported. Executive producers Amy Lippman and Christopher Keyser discussed the reboot recently, stating “this new iteration of Party of Five isn’t a retread of the original; it’s a whole new look at kids trying to parent each other in the wake of circumstances beyond their control, yet learning a similar lesson: that families persist no matter how great the obstacles.” With this modern, relevant twist, odds are the new Party of Five might have a chance at becoming as successful as the original series. After all, Party of Five won a Golden Globe in 1996 for Best Television Drama.

The Real Chemistry Between Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder in Their New Film ‘Destination Wedding’

Keanu Reeves and Winona Ryder have graced the screen together a few times. Although, the two haven’t ever done a film that was so completely their own. If you’re looking forward to the idea already, you’re going to want to catch Destination Wedding while it’s in theaters. The two actors first worked together in 1992’s Bram Stoker’s Dracula. However, when we hear Winona Ryder these days, most of us think of her raw performance in the Netflix series Stranger Things. And when you hear Keanu Reeves, you may be thinking of his recent portrayal of John Wick. No matter how you think of Winona or Keanu, it’s undeniable that the two have an on-screen chemistry that feels authentic.

Reeves and Ryder Confess a Mutual Crush to Entertainment Tonight When Talking About Their Film ‘Destination Wedding’

The two actors recently joked about their wedding scene in Bram Stoker’s Dracula. Why, you ask? Well, they may have been “really married.” The ceremony was done with a real Romanian priest. This is the sort of amusing banter that makes Winona and Keanu a pleasure to watch as a team. In their recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, Keanu and Winona were promoting their movie, Destination Wedding.

But what about their ridiculously real on-screen chemistry? Ryder has confessed that she had “a pretty, pretty big, healthy crush” on Keanu back in the day. Reeves seconded this by saying that he had “a big, healthy crush on [Winona], too.” And for all of you who like seeing these two and their mutual attraction on-screen and off-screen, you’ll be glad to know that their opinions of each other have not changed over the years. Although Destination Wedding may make you cringe at their characters’ mutual hatred, their chemistry is still a pleasure to experience.

‘Veronica Mars’ Reboot? Rob Thomas and Kristen Bell Are Both Hoping for a Revival

Do you remember Veronica Mars? Who could forget Kristen Bell’s snarky portrayal of the female detective? Many of the fans can’t. Veronica Mars ran for three seasons on UPN and The CW networks. Despite the show’s cancellation back in 2007, many fans have felt that the show should have continued. The fans aren’t the only ones, either. The series creator Rob Thomas wants a ‘Veronica Mars’ reboot, and apparently, so does Kristen Bell.

In a recent interview with E! News, Thomas stated that he and Kristen are both “hopeful” and remain “very into” the idea of reviving the show. The two creatives have both expressed their love for the series. Fans have done so as well, as they partially funded the  2014 Veronica Mars movie. Displaying a positive outlook, Thomas knows exactly what he wants the reboot of Veronica Mars to focus on if it comes to fruition. The “kick-ass mystery” is what the show should be all about, he claims. “I want to make Veronica the first name in female detectives,” Rob asserts. But he also makes it clear that if he can’t do the show with Kristen Bell, the show may not happen at all.

“I can’t imagine doing it without Kristen in my professional lifetime. I mean, never say never, but I think if I’m not doing it with Kristen, it means that Kristen no longer wants to do it. And Kristen has said she’s willing to do it until it’s ‘Murder, She Wrote.’ As long as she holds to that, then I think I want to keep doing the Kristen Bell version, if there’s an opportunity.”

Unfortunately, there is nothing set in motion just yet, but with Thomas and Bell both strongly set on the idea, a reboot may be in the foreseeable future.

Tom Hooper to Direct ‘Cats’ the Musical Movie Starring Ian McKellen, James Corden, Jennifer Hudson and Taylor Swift

Andrew Lloyd Weber’s acclaimed musical Cats will sing and dance its way to the big screen with a star-studded cast. The very thought of this revival is surely giving all of the musical theater fans goosebumps. While it’s provoking excitement in some, it’s surely provoking a tinge of scepticism in others. However, the casting is pretty solid. Cats has already confirmed stars such as Ian McKellen, James Corden, Jennifer Hudson, and—this one is a bit perplexing—Taylor Swift.  Surely, with all of the big names in place, as well as Tom Hooper directing, Cats will earn a new generation of fans, and hopefully, please the rest of us who already love the legendary masterpiece.

‘Cats’ the Musical Movie Starring Ian McKellen, James Corden, Jennifer Hudson and Taylor Swift

The good news is Tom Hooper is not a stranger to musicals. Hooper directed the Oscar-winning film, The King’s Speech, as well as 2012’s Les Misérables. Les Misérables—based on the classic novel by Victor Hugo—was nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning three Oscars when all was said and done. Obviously, Tom Hooper’s team up with Working Title and Universal worked really well before. Les Mis was gorgeously done, with absolutely brilliant casting, despite what some critics might say. If Les Mis is any indicator as to this future production of Cats, then we are in great shape.

Most of the stars have had musical theater experience, barring the exception of Taylor Swift. At any rate, one can expect a great performance from someone as noteworthy as Ian McKellen. Plus, it’s hard to deny that Jennifer Hudson has got some great pipes. Whatever the popular opinion, this cast will surely bring in a new generation of audiences. With any luck, perhaps even those who avoid musicals will purchase a ticket. As far as the budgeting goes, if it’s anything like Les Misérables’, then Cats will be as lavish as the production deserves.

A Brief History of Cats

Andrew Lloyd Weber got the inspiration for Cats from Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats, a collection of poems by T.S. Eliot. The musical first opened on the West End in 1981 and came to Broadway in the year 1982. Weber’s Cats is the fourth-longest-running show on Broadway, the run lasting for 18 years. There have been three recent revivals: two on the West End and one revival on Broadway. Clearly, Cats is one of the shows that remains a favorite for musical theater fans.

With a musical score that is a combination of playful, quirky, and haunting, it’s hard not to love at least one of the tracks. The most notable song from the production is “Memory,” a musical piece that many consider one of the best musical theater songs of all time. The story follows the Jellicle tribe of cats as they tell their tales, traditions, and woes. And believe me, if you aren’t a cat person, you still might be able to sympathize with the characters.

There was a previous Cats’ the musical movie version released directly to VHS in 1998, which was filmed at the Adelphi theater in London. But Cats has never appeared on the big screen, so this is certainly a first.
