Interview with Erin Bowman

Hey Summer Single Art (hi res)Even before she was 18, Erin Bowman has known that she wanted to be a singer. So, after making the big decision to move to New York and pursue her dreams, the rising star has released her hit singles “Problem,” “King Boy,” and “Hey Summer.” Cliché talked with her about her yet-to-be-titled upcoming debut EP, her influences, and more.
Cliché: What has the journey been like for you putting together your debut EP?
Erin Bowman: I had a bunch of ideas I had put together just writing on my own, and then I started working with co- writers at the end of 2013. Sometimes, we’d work on ideas I had or come up with brand new ones. I wrote several songs in NYC and I also went out to LA for two weeks and worked with a bunch of different producers and writers, which was a great experience! I had so many songs to choose from and had to narrow it down, which was quite difficult! I finally narrowed it down to six songs, which is a little bit longer than a typical EP, but I couldn’t narrow it down anymore. I’m super excited for people to hear the music!
Who are some of your biggest influences?
My biggest influences would have to be Spice Girls, TLC, Britney Spears, and Gwen Stefani to name a few! Their looks and shows and all that glitz and glam was so great, but really what it comes to is great music… and that’s something all those acts had. They’re all great entertainers, no doubt about it, but without those great songs, where would they be? I’m influenced by great music.
Where do you find the most inspiration and creativity for your songwriting?
Real life for sure! Everything I write about is stuff that is happening to me or stuff I see happening to others. I think that’s where the best music comes from.
What was it like hearing your first single “Problem” being played on the radio?
Nothing is cooler than hearing your song on the radio! I couldn’t have been more excited! To know that people are hearing your song on the radio is just the coolest!
What was it that ultimately made you decide to get into music and songwriting?
I have loved music my whole life. My parents have great taste in music and I grew up listening to all these different artists. There’s something about music and entertaining that just makes sense to me. I can’t see myself doing anything else. So, fingers crossed, this works out for me. When it comes to songwriting, I [had] never even thought about writing music until I started working with my first producer that asked me to work on some lyrics to a new song he had written. After that, I just kept writing and writing; I started writing melodies and everything. Now I couldn’t even imagine singing songs that didn’t come straight from me. It wouldn’t feel right or real.
What is your ultimate dream or goal for your music career?
I want millions of people to buy my album and love every track on it. Not just one song. I want to be an “albums artist,” as I like to say. “Album artists” stick around; they have longevity. Obviously one hit is better than no hit, but a hit album… that’s my idea of success.
Any future plans?
My new single is called “Besides You” and I can’t wait to put it out and see people’s responses. It’s always a little scary, but also super exciting. I don’t have a release date for the EP yet, but expect it relatively soon! Follow me on Twitter and Instagram @erinbowmanmusic to stay informed!

Erin Bowman’s Favorite Summer Date Ideas

My Favorite Summer Date Ideas!
By Erin Bowman

Erin Hey Summer

Summer is such a great time of year when it comes to dating because there are so many possibilities. You don’t have to be stuck inside because the weather is nice, which is such a plus! There are so many fun outdoor activities you can do. Keep reading for some of my favorite summer dating activities.
1. Zoo Date
If you’re an animal lover like I am, then the zoo is a perfect date! Nothing is more fun than looking at those cute, little, furry guys with someone you like. When the weather is nice during the summer and all the animals are out: AHH, SO FUN! There are great zoos all over the country for all you animal loving couples out there!
2. Beach/Lake Date
If you’re on the east coast or west coast, nothing is more romantic than a beach date! If you don’t live near the ocean, lakes are fun and can be a romantic spot for a date. There are so many great restaurants on the beach to go to, or if you’re the cooking type, why not make a meal and picnic on the beach as the sun sets?
3. Baseball Game Date
Now I know some of you are probably thinking, “why would I want to go to a baseball game?” But believe me, they’re actually really fun! I was always into playing sports and not much into watching them on TV, but when you go to an actual game, it’s completely different. Going to a stadium and watching the game live is super exciting, and if you’re not into the game itself, they have great food. If you’re of age, you can always enjoy a good drink during a hot summer day or evening. The atmosphere of a major league or even minor league baseball game is a great setting for a summer date!
4. Bike Ride/Hike Date
For those of you who are the active type or maybe those of you who want to become the active type, a nice bike ride or hike is a perfect date. Not only is it fun, but it’s also good exercise! You can find great trails all over the country. Some of you may think hiking could be boring, but try it before you scratch it off the date list. You never know, you might love it! A couple that hikes/bikes together, stays together.
5. Amusement Park Date
I love amusement parks and I know that I personally would love for someone to take me there on a date. Amusement parks can get a little pricey though, especially when it comes to food. If you’re on a budget or just cheap like I am, pack hoagies and drinks in a cooler and go back out to your car for lunch! It’s such a fun summer day date! Nothing says fun like a picture of you two on a roller-coaster screaming your heads off together!
There are so many fun summer activities to do when it comes to dating; what are some of your favorite summer time date ideas? Be sure to share them in the comments below!

Importance of Summer Skincare

Taking good care of your skin is a must all year long but in the summer is especially important! Nothing is worse than a bad sunburn, really dry skin, or using the wrong kind of makeup during the summer. Here are some products I love and some skin tips!
1. (Sunscreen) Sunscreen is a must, people. ALWAYS use sunscreen. I know sometimes lotioning up your whole body can be a pain and very time consuming which is why these new fangled spray sunscreens are fantastic!!! There are so many different companies now offering the spray sunscreen and don’t be fooled… the generic is just as good as the name brands and a lot less expensive. Once you go generic, you never go back!!!

2. (Lip balm) Another must have is lip balm! Lips can be super sensitive when it comes to sun and the feeling of burnt lips is not a good one. Wear lip balm. Just do it. A couple lip balms that I love are EOS and Soft Lips! EOS has all different scents/flavors that I really love. I love a nice variety and the list is practically endless… (strawberry sorbet, pomegranate raspberry, summer fruit, sweet mint, honeysuckle honeydew,  and so on!) My favorite when it comes to Soft Lips is standard vanilla; yum… so good! Soft Lips is also spf 20 which is great!
3. (SPF Foundation) Ok, so I know I said you should always wear sunscreen and that is true! Always put sunscreen on your arms, legs, chest, etc. But, for your face there is a different approach. An approach that I myself love! Sometimes sunscreen on your face with all your makeup over it can be icky and slimy and just not cool. Now so many foundations have sunscreen built right in which makes it so easy! A couple of my favorite sun protectant foundations are…

-Elf – Flawless Finish Foundation. (say that 10 times fast)
– Yes To – Grapefruit CC Cream
4. (Moisturizer) Summer can really dry your skin out. It’s really important to use moisturizer. You should moisturize in the morning before you start your day and when you’re about to go to bed, after you wash your face of course! You can find reasonably priced moisturizer but do your research! Check out reviews and see what’s in the products you’ll be using on your face everyday. I recommend using “Clinique’s Dramatically Different moisturizing lotion +.”

5. (Cleanser) As I said in number four you should always wash your face at night before you go to bed. After a long summer day your face deserves to be washed. If you wear quite a bit of makeup I recommend using makeup remover wipes before you wash it. I like to use Elf Makeup Remover Cleansing Wipes and to wash my face, Olay Age Defying cleanser.

6. (Powder) For people whose skin tends to get greasy during the day, the summer heat can really add to that. Half way through the day a quick touch up with Elf’s Studio Translucent Mattifying Powder makes it look like you just applied your makeup.

There are other powders you can find if Elf isn’t your thing. As you can see, Elf is my thing. It’s inexpensive and the products are great: for me, at least. Remember everyone’s skin is different. What works for one person might not work for someone else. Certain skin types need certain kind of products. Some people have really sensitive skin, some people don’t. See what works for you and remember to always be nice to your skin! I hope you find these skin tips/products helpful!

Erin Bowman’s 2014 Summer Beach Essentials

Being born and raised in NJ only a short hour away from the Jersey shore I am quite the beach enthusiast. I have so many great memories growing up going to the beach and have definitely learned some things along the way. Here is my list of beach essentials!!
image(1)1. Target bathing suit!
Target is not messing around when it comes to their bathing suit collection. Do not underestimate them. They have all different styles and such cute colors and designs. They’re inexpensive and the tops and bottoms are sold separately which I really like! No more struggling trying to decide if you should get the medium or small! You can get one of each! That’s happiness.
2. Cute beach hat!
Nothing is worse than a sun burnt itchy scalp. Beach hats are super fashionable and also very functional!
3. Beach tent!Erica Bowmans Beach Tent
I know what you’re thinking… “It’ll be hard to set up, it might take flight if a big gust of wind comes, I might look like a dork…” But I love my beach tent so much and it was worth every penny($40). It’s a pretty simple set up and it’s so nice to have on those super hot beach days. Mine has a couple of zipper windows in case you want a little airflow and it comes with stakes so it won’t fly away! Sunburn is no joke and I like to really make sure my skin is protected at the beach, a beach tent is your skin’s best friend!
Surf Taco Jersey Shore Erin Bowman4. Surf Taco
If you live in NJ or frequent the Jersey shore and haven’t tasted Surf Taco you need to go there… NOW! It is essential that you enjoy a blackened mahi mahi taco with pineapple topping(that’s my favorite, there are many other delicious things). For all of you who have never ventured out to the Jersey Shore, if you do one day, try Surf Taco, you won’t regret it.
5. Summer Beach playlist!
When lying on the beach you must have your summer playlist ready to play! Summer is such a great time of year and everyone has those summer jams they listen to every year when June rolls around. A few songs on my playlist…

  1. “Summer Girls” by LFO
  2. “Miami” by Will Smith
  3. “Under the Boardwalk” by The Drifters
  4. “Boys of Summer” by Don Henley
  5. “Kokomo” by The Beach Boys
  6. “California Gurls” by Katy Perry

While creating your playlist keep in mind there’s a very summery song available on itunes now that’s called “Hey Summer.” J I happen to sing it!
What are your beach must-haves? Are there any places you MUST visit when you are down the shore? Share in the comments section and enjoy beach season!
