Hot chocolate, fuzzy socks, the smell of pine trees, and gift shopping are a few of our favorite things during the holidays here at Cliché. Memorial Day weekend is a wonderful time to catch up with loved ones and unwind, but who says your beauty routine has to be mundane? We’re going to show you how you can switch it up by sharing a modern day beauty look for Memorial Day that will give a little twist to your typical patriotic flair. So, here’s to a weekend in honor of our men and women serving in the armed forces, and here’s to celebrating in a fashion-forward style.
Pick Your Poison: Coral Lips or Coral Nails
Photo Courtesy of Nordstrom, NARS Casablanca ($27)
Yes, you read that correctly. It’s not a part of your average red, white, and blue beauty look, but who makes the rules? A twist from your good ole classic red lip, a coral pout is exactly what you need to feel spontaneous and authentic while still incorporating a patriotic spirit that’s not so blatant. If it’s a color you’ve been hesitant to try before, go for it! Though the color might look scary in the tube, you may find a smile peeking through your lips when you try it on, as coral creates a natural warmth and liveliness to your skin tone, eyes, and face while creating an overall look that’s flattering and eye-catching. A few of our favorites include Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color in Craving Coral, retailing for $7.99 at ULTA, and NARS lipstick in Casablanca, retailing for $27 at Nordstrom. If coral lips are too much, try it on your nails. Check out Essie’s Color Binge($8.50), OPI’s Are We There Yet? ($9.99), or ZOYA’s Heidi($10). White Eyeliner

To go with your stunning coral lips, we encourage you to take out your white eyeliner that you keep for good measure, but probably find yourself wondering: why is it that I need to have this in my makeup collection again? Though white eyeliner may not be used as frequently or be as popular as nude eyeliner nowadays, white eyeliner is perfect for this type of occasion. It will still manage the trick of creating a more wide-eyed and brighter look for your face, yet it’ll also go beautifully and naturally with your coral lips. Before you know it, you’ll be the fashionista on the rise. Check out the latest such as Make Up Forever’s metallic to matte finishes in their Aqua XL Extra Long Lasting Waterproof Eye Pencil in Matte White, retailing for $21.00, or the classics like NYX’s Jumbo Pencil in Milk, retailing for $4.50, to complete your Memorial Day look this weekend.

Hello, my blushing beauty babes! Our favorite time of year has made its appearance once again as we’ve snuggled into cozy sweaters with steaming mugs of hot cocoa. Amongst the endless array of holiday decorations, the smell of pine, and peppermint-flavored goods, the beauty world has gone into a frenzy with deals and bargains galore. We at Cliché know how exciting and terrifying shopping can be during the holidays, so just like Santa has a list to keep everything in check, we’re more than glad to help with a shopping guide of our very own. For all of you beauty lovers out there, move the old school idea of stocking stuffers to the side and make room for bags of beauty topped off with a bow. From glittery nail polishes to rich colored lippies, I’ve looked high and low for the best and most adorable makeup bag “stuffers” available. This year, give beauty aficionados (or yourself!) a lovely makeup bag filled with goodies that can be used year-round. Don’t forget to check your list twice! Happy holiday shopping, beauts!
A.) It’s in the shape of a cuddly panda. B.) It’s a Korean beauty product, which means you know anyone’s hands will be totally covered throughout the winter season with this product. They’ll feel just as soft as panda fur!
There’s something about Essie nail polish. Maybe it’s the way the polish goes on smoothly while giving a picturesque coat, or maybe it’s their endless selection of colors, but perhaps what I love even more is Essie’s seasonal collections that come out each year. Essie’s mantra for summer 2015 is “When it heats up, I like to stay cool with my peach side babe.” Surely, the heat is on with Peach Side Babe’s collection – hands down – as its nail polish assemblage is unique, authentic, and just plain awesome. If you haven’t already, Essie’s Peach Side Babe Collection is a must check out (if not) must buy product of the summer.
Private Weekend gives an effortlessly chic and clean look. A perfect complement for your tan, however, it’s equally flawless on fair skin.
What better way to have fun this summer than to try the funky color in the group: Chillato. It’s definitely one of the colors I’ll be trying as it’s one of the most different polishes I’ve seen Essie create.
The color that started it all: Peach Side Babe! (And it’s a staple color for summer!) Enough said.
Sunset Sneaks is a gorgeous, vibrant red. Its color energizes you to go out and do all the things you couldn’t do this past winter: explore, let go, and have some fun!
One of the calmer, softer yet still beautiful colors: Saltwater Happy. A great polish to remind you of summer and get you in the mood to relax.
Though it’s not one of the more “in-your-face” colors, it’s still a striking one in its own way. Pret-A-Surfer is another color I’ll be sure to try this summer because much like Chillato, it’s a color I can’t say I’ve seen before with Essie.
On a side note, if you’re curious to try the collection but don’t want to break the bank – understandably so – eBay sells a mini collection of Peach Side Babe for only $12.95!

There are more than plenty of things to be excited and grateful about with the holiday cheer in the air. Store sales, peppermint and gingerbread everything, and Christmas tunes are just a handful of what the Cliché family has been looking forward to. What’s at the top of all of our holiday agendas though, besides watching Home Alone more than five times, are gifts for both you and your loved ones. We’re grabbing our peppermint white mochas and prepping our Christmas lists for some heavy shopping, shopping that should have been done yesterday! Have you seen those lines? Luckily, Cliché is always here to keep you five steps ahead—thank goodness for the internet!
So, what’s more fabulous than the glitz and glam of the holiday season? Keeping your nails just as fabulous—duh! These winter and holiday nail collections from our favorite brands have made their debuts, and we’re more than happy to put a spotlight on them. They’re the perfect go-to gift for your BFF or sister and can easily be one of your best stocking stuffers. You can also keep some of your favorites for yourself. Shhh—we won’t tell. Sorry, Santa! (O.P.I Cinnamon Sweet, Comet in the Sky and I’ll Tinsle You In, Opi.com)
O.P.I Gwen Stefani Holiday Collection NBC’s The Voice’s phenomenal judge, Gwen Stefani, has stretched her creativity and talent into yet another outlet—this time in the form of a stunning holiday nail collection by O.P.I. Gwen’s personal style over the years has made her into a fashion icon that many of us strive to emulate in our looks. This holiday season, you can deliver on whichever one of her looks you love to the T with any of the nineteen polishes in her collection. From shades of classic red to out-of-the-box detailed polishes that you can finish off your manicures with, there are hundreds of style combinations you can create just like Gwen does with her iconic looks.

Zoya Wishes Holiday 2014 Collection Zoya has certainly answered our wishes with their Wishes Holiday 2014 collection. Sparkles? Check. Shimmer? Check. Two elements that always make the best holiday polishes, polishes that we’ll be constantly repainting our nails with. Their holiday collection also gets kudos from us for having a black satin shade, which is a color some may not usually associate with holiday cheer. But we’re all about black, all the time. It’s a color you can never go wrong with! Black will always be the new black.
Essie Winter 2014 Essie’s Winter 2014 collection is one of my personal favorites. These polishes just make you want to smile and spread that holiday cheer in the right way. With soft and bright shades of pink and red, a touch of ivory, and a metallic color for some shine, this collection has it all for the holidays. It makes us want to paint our nails with each of the polishes at the same time. Why not? We’re sure it’ll still look adorable! Just try it out first. Haha.
Essie Luxe Effects End your manicures with this shimmery touch by Essie Luxe Effects. The polishes remind us of the gorgeous ornaments adorned on Christmas trees that we can’t stop staring at. Give your nails some dazzle and sparkle. These “luxeffects” top coats do just as they say, adding that luxurious and glamorous look to any manicure you’re rocking.
There’s nothing like a fresh mani-pedi to provide feelings of refinement and rejuvenation. However, week after week of attention can lead to a lack of green in wallets with an excess of cobwebs in its place. So, why not bring the salon home and give yourself endless mani-pedis for a fraction of the cost? These tools and tips will have friends asking you, “Where did you get your nails done?” immediately. Rough around the edges
Start with clean nails by removing all nail polish. Even if you don’t have any on, give your nail beds a quick swipe to remove any hidden polish or dirt. Then, exfoliate hands and feet with your favorite scrub or better yet, cane sugar. Most store-bought scrubs are sugar or salt scrubs. Make your own with a cup of sugar, some water, fresh lime and orange juice. This will smooth out hands, leaving them softer than ever.

Make them Melt
Cuticle oils and removers are essential for salon-look nails, but Formula10’s Pink Creamy Cuticle Remover is the most effective. The accordion shaped bottle makes application easy. Squeeze the bottle and run the long nozzle along nail beds. Allow to sit for one minute. Nit Picky
Once your cuticles have absorbed some remover, use the flat end of a cuticle removing tool to push cuticles back. This will cause dead cuticles and skin to fold and the tweezer-prong shaped side of the tool can be used to pick away the melted cuticles. This will result in clean, moisturized and most importantly, healthy looking nail beds that are ready to be moisturized. Silky Smooth
After all of that preparation, what seems to be simple would be applying lotion. It really is as easy as that, but the wrong lotion could have consequences for skin. Overly fragrant products are often only so, while body butters or creams can leave skin oily and greasy instead of saturated. Any of Aveeno’s lotions can conquer this issue, but the Aveeno Skin Relief 24hr Moisturizing Lotion targets dry skin and moisturizes it back to health.

Nail Beds of Steel
Salon quality nails must be durable and resistant to cracks or breaks. That’s why Sally Hansen’s VitaSurge Growth Gel is the best start to growing strong nails. Apply a small, spreadable amount of the gel onto each nail and then rub it in with fingers or applicator. The beads inside the formula infuse vitamins A, C and E into nails to promote growth. This is essential for nails that undergo lots of painting.

Growing and Growing
Before airbrushing tiny daisies, stenciling a French tip or simply applying a solid color, apply a base coat to nails. Essie’s Grow Stronger will strengthen nails while providing primer for the coats to come. Final Don’t Touch
After all is said and done and each finger and toe is perfectly painted, the final piece to the puzzle is topcoat. Recently, matte coats have become a trend, but for on-the-go nails with high gloss, Nails Inc. London’s Kensington Caviar Top Coat does the trick. This top coat dries to the touch in 45 seconds, but fully dries in ten minutes and creates a slick, gel-effect—the perfect touch for salon-quality nails.
There’s some hard work behind a fresh mani-pedi, but with the right tools and enough practice, anyone can create salon quality nails.
