Fertility Diet: Foods to eat and avoid. Fertility and diet are much under debate. Do diet and food really influence fertility? It is definitely an important question for those who are keen to improve their chances of conception. Before beginning, let us first clear our minds that foods are sources of nutrition and offer many health benefits.

There is no specific fertility booster food but food. However, a more balanced diet improves physical health and reproductive health. Food is a great way to cover up nutritional deficiencies that might possibly suppress fertility in both men and women.

Foods To Avoid

Avoiding foods that can affect fertility is equally important. There are certain food sources that have a bad pact on fertility. If you are really looking to boost your fertility, then you should deliberately look to avoid these foods.

1.     Excessive Alcohol

Excessively consuming alcohol can influence fertility in many ways. In women, it is directly linked with ovulation complications, disturbance in the menstrual cycle, and imbalance in hormones. This makes it difficult to conceive. Alcohol also affects semen health in men.

In order to overcome these alcohol-induced fertility issues, it is better to look for a community care program that might help you out. You may find numerous options around you. 2.     Mercury-Rich Fish

Mercury has harmful effects on fertility in both men and women. In men, excess amounts of mercury can result in declined quality and quantity of semen. Women can face issues such as PCOS, imbalance in estrogen levels in women.

It is better to avoid mercury-rich fish such as catfish, swordfish, king mackerel, and flake. You can replace it with fatty fish, which is a healthier option for you in order to boost fertility.

3.     Refined Carbohydrates

It is better to avoid refined carbohydrates, especially if you aim to boost fertility with diet management. Experts usually ask women to shrink the portion of carbs in their diet to less than 45% in order to treat PCOS.

4.     Caffeine

Healthy Food Options To Boost Fertility

Healthy and well-balanced diets are extremely useful ways to be at your best. It helps to attain the ideal weight and make up for nutritional deficiency that might be the possible cause of infertility. Let us see what foods are actually helpful in boosting fertility.

1.     Sunflower Seeds

Sunflower seeds are actually super seeds. Rich in vitamin E and antioxidants, these are a great source to boost fertility in both men and women. Good amounts of selenium and folate make it very beneficial for those who have fertility issues.

There are many ways to add them to your diet. You may even experiment with new ways to bring change and add more flavor to your routine food. Sprinkling sunflower seeds over salads is a good option. You may also add crushed sunflower seeds to butter, making sunflower seed butter.

2.     Citrus Fruits

Not only are these extremely rich natural sources of Vitamin C, but these also containing polyamine putrescine. Many animal studies support the role of polyamine putrescine in improving egg and semen health. Oranges, grapefruit, and lemon are some common and widespread citrus fruits.

You may take it in any form. You can directly eat fruit or take it in the form of juice. However, be cautious as grapefruit juice might interact with certain medications. If you are on medications, it’s better to consult your doctor about it.

3.     Mature Cheese

Mature cheese is another rich source of polyamines. In order to get more polyamine through diet, you can add mature cheddar or parmesan cheese to your diet. Studies support that polyamines not only improve sperm health but also improves egg health and quality for women beyond 35 years of age.

There are numerous ways a person can add cheese to his diet. Be careful as cheese, on the one hand, is rich in saturated fats, and on the other hand, it is loaded with calories.

4.     Full Fat Dairy

Full-fat dairy products are full of healthy saturated fats. It is good for fertility and pregnancy as these, in addition to healthy fats, are also rich sources of fat-soluble vitamins such as Vitamin A, E, D K, and K2. The findings of a Harvard Study show that those women who are in the habit of taking full-fat dairy faceless ovulation complications as compared to those who habitually take low fat or skimmed milk and other dairy products.

Common examples of full-fat dairy items are whole milk, cheese, and cream. Women who take skimmed should switch to whole-fat dairy milk and whole dairy products.

5.     Oysters

These are nutritious and again wonderful food sources to boost fertility for your fertility diet. These are packed with all nutrients that are fertility boosters. Taking about six oysters provides about 139 calories and provides tremendous amounts of nutrients and minerals with such a low-calorie count. Taking about six oysters provides zinc, selenium, vitamin B12, and iron more than that of the daily requirement. Raw or baked, you may take it any form as you desire.

6.     Pineapple

It is a delicious fruit, which can help to boost fertility. Consuming about a cup of pineapple provides about 46% of the daily required amount of Vitamin C. Furthermore, studies have shown that consistently consuming pineapple for five days after ovulation can help in successful embryo implantation.

Bromelain is a natural enzyme found in pineapples, and it has anti-inflammatory and anti-coagulation properties. A high degree of inflammation in the body suppresses the natural ovulation process. Consuming pineapples helps to counteract this issue.

She embraces the “Fat Girl” persona of loving the art of cuisine, and encourages her followers to accept their appetites for delicious foods as well. Her charge for the unapologetic direction in life goes beyond food as she tells all young women to have no regrets. Get to know Natalie and her journey toward building a more accepting food culture, and overall society for women. 

Cliche Mag: What was your inspiration for “Your Inner Fat Girl”?

Natalie Taste: My inspiration for YIFG is myself; from the colors, interests, mood and attitude of the brand is my personality. I’m a “twenty something girl,” who loves to dine out, get cute for brunch and hang out with her girlfriends with no regrets! What young lady can’t relate to that? When my audience sees YIFG, they see themselves, their best friend. That’s why it works! 

What does your slogan, “Fat Girls Taste Better”, mean to you?

Fat Girls Taste Better to me means; “the young women who are unapologetic about their actions reign higher.” The slogan is often pinned to food, but I see it in many aspects of life.

How has your experience in New Orleans changed as you’ve explored its culinary world?  

My respect for the head chefs has grown significantly! After college, I worked in a 5-star  restaurant for a couple months where I was able to witness an interesting dynamic. I’m thankful for the experience because it was a take on the chefs, I never grasped being on the other side of the table. The head chefs are like the star of the show.

Where should the first meal be had on a trip to New Orleans?

Neyows Creole Cuisine where you must order chargrilled oysters as your starter, a fried seafood platter as the entree, and the restaurant’s signature “BOW WOW” cocktail. You’ll have no regrets!

What obstacles have you faced as a rising business woman in the industry? 

As a rising business woman, I struggle with balancing YIFG, my career goals, and personal life.  At times they overlap, which I once found beneficial. Now it seems like when I’m excelling in one or two fields, I’m neglecting the other. It’s an obstacle I’m still learning how to juggle.  

What do you hope to give back to your community through YIFG?

An opportunity for local up and coming chefs, restaurateurs, and recipe makers to showcase his or her take on what makes New Orleans food culture special outside of what the tourists witness. 

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs in today’s world?

I’m a strong believer of the saying, “slow and steady wins the race”. Take your time! My advice is to plan, organize & execute all projects no matter the size of the outcome. I also encourage aspiring entrepreneurs to alter their perspective when thinking about their competition. Instead of being discouraged by someone “doing the same thing” as you, network with them & use them as a source. 

What new directions are you, or hope to be, taking YIFG?

I want to develop into apparel design collaborations. I think my brand is funky and bold enough for a designer to have fun with. If YIFG merch could stand as its own entity, I would feel accomplished. 

What are you excited for with YIFG in the coming years?

I’m excited for the YIFG to scale up. There’s much opportunity in the world leaving options endless. I’m ready for wherever YIFG takes me.

Meet Arlyne and Weston: The YouTube Couple Spreading Good Vibes


It’s no secret that YouTube is oversaturated with couples attempting to leave a lasting impression on their audiences with their cutesy love or their ability to prank each other good. However, there is one couple that is doing it right. Meet Arlyne and Weston Bales of Orange County, California. The couple has been married for three years now and together for seven. Just last year, they decided to begin regularly posting videos of them together as a unit on YouTube, although Arlyne has had her own separate beauty and fashion channel for almost eight years. She’s a smart, creative fashionista, while he’s amazingly over-the-top (in a good way of course).


What makes Arlyne and Weston stand out? It’s because, with them, what you see is what you get. In the couple’s words, who they are on-camera is who they are off-camera. They are fun, genuine, authentic, and of course, adorable together! Their main mission is to create and spread good vibes to their audience with each video. In fact, they have named their fanbase “Vibers”. Are you having a bad day? You can count on Arlyne and Weston to cheer you up. If you’re looking for the true definition of “couple goals”, look no further than these two.


A recurring theme in their YouTube videos is Arlyne – who is of Mexican and Bolivian descent – teaching Spanish to Weston, who is only a quarter Mexican, but does not speak Spanish at all. In two separate videos, Arlyne goes an entire day speaking only Spanish to Weston, while he tries his best to respond appropriately in the same language. However, as expected, the result is him speaking Spanglish. In one of these videos, the couple spontaneously takes a road trip across the border to Mexico and spend the day shopping and eating authentic Mexican food. The amazing thing is that with each time they upload these videos, Weston’s Spanish appears to be improving.



Often times, the couple decides to prank each other. However, when it comes to these two, their pranks are not gratuitously over the top, as is the case with many other YouTube couples that famously prank each other. With Arlyne and Weston, it’s the perfect balance of “pushing the limit” but not to the point where Weston will be forced to sleep on the couch for the night.



Weston has no problem being the “guinea pig” in their YouTube videos. Aside from Arlyne teaching him Spanish, Weston can also be seen eating foods that he’s never tried before, mostly Mexican and other foods of Latin origins. More often than not, Weston does not enjoy the food, as he is known to be a picky eater. Because of this, Arlyne has continuously and lovingly referred to him as “Guerito Dramatico”, a slang term that translates to “Dramatic White Boy/Man”. It’s a description that Weston wears with great pride!

Eating strawberries daily will prevent wrinkles and dry skin. Strawberries are also a great way to get rid of hyperpigmentation due to its ellagic acid. You can consume strawberries daily to notice a major difference in your skin or you can apply it topically to your face.

Green tea is an antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory which makes it great for your skin and your overall body. It heals blemishes and scars that are stubborn to get rid of. It helps to produce less sebum and boost your immune system. It also protects your skin from sun damage when used topically. It’s no secret that this time of year is the best for cooking, especially baking. It’s a little chilly outside and family is around so there’s no better excuse for turning on the oven. It’s a little corny, but undeniably true that food is what brings our families together and the meals served at family gatherings are the highlights of the night. I know that when I tend to indulge a little too much with my favorite comfort foods, I see it in my skin later. Holiday Butternut Squash with Apples and Cranberries
Butternut squash is one of my favorite vegetables out there if I want maximum comfort and sweetness in a dish. Butternut Squash is high in vitamin A, responsible for cell and tissue growth, and Vitamin C, an important factor in the process of collagen building for the skin. Not only is this type of squash (there are many varieties!) great for maintaining beautiful, glowing skin but it’s also one of the most versatile vegetables out there. You can roast, bake, or boil it!

Salmon with a Pecan Crunch
Not only does salmon feel like a meal fit for a queen, but it’s also a great pick for the main course at any holiday party. Wild salmon is one of the best food sources out there to get your omega 3s, the fatty acids that keep skin looking smooth and youthful. This baked salmon with pecans is an interesting but tasty combination that is sure to impress your guests.

Twice Baked Sweet Potatoes
I’m convinced that I eat sweet potatoes more than anyone I know. They are my staple in my kitchen yet I always feel like I’m treating myself when I make them. Sweet potatoes are high in beta-carotene, an antioxidant that turns into vitamin A, beneficial for maintaining glowing and youthful skin. Oftentimes, sweet potatoes are topped off with marshmallows in our holiday dishes, but because sugar is a big no-no for clear skin, this baked sweet potato recipe is a much better take on this classic Holiday staple.

“Strawberries, blueberries, and cherries contain high levels of vitamin C, which can reduce free radical damage caused by exposure to UV radiation,” says Dr. Calapai. “Vitamin C also stimulates collagen production, which is important for skin’s youthful appearance. As a bonus, cherries contain melatonin, which protects skin from UV radiation and repairs sunburn damage.”
Leafy greens
“If it’s green and it’s got leaves, chances are it’s good for sun protection,” says Dr. Calapai. “According to one study, spinach, kale, and Swiss chard can reduce the risk of squamous cell skin cancer by 50%. Broccoli is also a good choice: it’s full of sulforaphane, an antioxidant that helps your cells protect themselves against UV radiation. Fresh herbs like parsley, basil, sage, and rosemary are also packed with free radical-fighting, skin-protecting antioxidants.”
Red and orange produce
“The antioxidant lycopene has been shown to protect the skin against sunburn and is at least twice as effective an antioxidant as beta-carotene when it comes to blocking UV light,” says Dr. Calapai. “It also helps rid the body of free radicals. Chow down on tomatoes, papaya, guava, red bell peppers, and pink grapefruit. Watermelon is an especially good choice; it contains 40% more lycopene than tomatoes.”
“Spirulina has been dubbed ‘the next great superfood,’ and for good reason. This microalgae, along with chlorella, contains the antioxidant astaxanthin, which has been shown to protect the skin and eyes against UV radiation,” says Dr. Calapai. “It also fights free radicals and inflammation to prevent sun damage by preventing UV-induced cell damage. If microalgae isn’t exactly your cup of tea, you can find this powerful antioxidant in shrimp and salmon.”
“As long as it’s dark chocolate you’re eating, you’ll be ingesting plenty of flavonoids, which can improve your skin’s ability protect against sunburns and other UV-induced issues,” says Dr. Calapai.  “Research found that people who ate about one ounce of high-percentage dark chocolate every day for three months could withstand twice the amount of UVB rays before their skin started to turn red, compared to those who didn’t.”
Green and black tea
“The myriad health benefits of tea are well-known, but it’s nice to know that the cups you’re drinking can also help protect against sun damage,” says Dr. Calapai. “Green and black teas are packed with polyphenols that can help stop cancer development by limiting the blood supply to the cancerous area. Green tea can even help prevent non-melanoma skin cancer by enhancing DNA repair.”

Chef’s Table S3 Review: Third Season Looks A Little Burnt


What is so unique about this Netflix documentary series is that it does not only go into depth of the specialty food of the chef but into the chef’s particular background as well. The new season focuses on six world-renowned chefs, Jeong Kwan, Vladimir Mukhin, Nancy Silverton, Ivan Orkin, Tim Raue and Virgilio Martinez. They focus not only on the food but the chef’s past experiences, struggles, and successes. Even though these chefs’ come from diverse backgrounds and have diverse cooking styles, they all have similar personalities of conviction and compassion, which clearly distinguishes itself from other cooking documentaries. However, this season falls a little flat with over-familiar visual and audio styles that will leave a veteran viewer of the show wondering if the series will modify their structures of storytelling.


The sweet and emotional orchestral sounds will try to hook you into the third season of some standout satisfying stories about individuals who happened to find their voice through cooking.  What intrigues me is the specific personalities of these people, such as the story of the Zen Buddhist nun/chef, Jeong Kwan who is calm and collected while also spiritually and emotionally balanced in both her lifestyle and cooking in temple food. The peculiar yet relaxing tone of her story about becoming a Zen Buddhist nun and a chef was interesting and hooks the viewer into crafting a different definition of a chef. Also, throughout her story, there is a deeper understanding of Kwan’s connection with nature and how she translates that connection through her cooking.
Another standout of this season was Nancy Silverton, the Los Angeles native who faultlessly obsesses in the precision of her craftsmanship as a baker with bread and as a chef with her style of Italian food. During her story, it was clear that she’s bossy and determined when dealing with the other chefs in her kitchens and the vendors she bargains with for food. The merriment of storytelling and distinct orchestral sounds worked perfectly with the stories of Kwan and Silverton and highlighted the success of their achievements.
However, other episodes turned up a little short specifically the episode that focused on the provocative and egotistical, Tim Raue because it failed to set up its own tone and significantly focused on Raue’s ego and persistence whilst in the kitchen. Even though it was entertaining to see this kind of chef bring back the food culture in Berlin it was a little tiresome when Raue kept talking about his own accomplishments as a chef in Berlin. There was also not a clear distinct tone that was found with Kwan and Silverton. In addition, I feel like there was more to Raue’s story than his harsh upbringing and his selfish drive to be the best in Germany. Peruvian chef, Virgilio Martinez’s story had a resourceful and dependent tone but it seemed very similar to a past chef’s story in previous seasons, which may stray some dedicated viewers.
This season had good and detailed stories about amazingly talented chefs but the third season reveals that the documentary series seems to be using the same story structure with the particular chef’s downfall and rise and the expected use of string instruments in the background. Maybe there is hope that the series will be able to pull off diverse story structures and newly vibrant tones but for this season of Chef’s Table, for me, deserves a B.

Let’s state the obvious: pumpkins are like the mascots of fall. As soon as September hits, it seems the world looks for any reason to add a dash of pumpkin spice to pretty much anything. Pumpkin Spice After Dark

Cachaça 51 is teaming up with Poor Man’s Kitchen to create their very own pumpkin-spiced drink. While the classic pumpkin-spiced latte is beloved by many during the daytime, here is the perfect cocktail for PSL lovers to enjoy after hours. Made with the Brazilian spirit Cachaça 51 and pumpkin spice syrup from Poor Man’s Kitchen, this Pumpkin Spice After Dark drink is the perfect treat after a long workday. Enjoy!

• 1 cup Arabica coffee
• 1.5 oz Cachaça 51
• 1.5 oz Coffee Brandy
• 1 oz Heavy Cream
• .75 oz Poor Man’s Kitchen Pumpkin Spice Syrup

Pour hot coffee into warmed glass until it is about 3/4 full. Add Poor Man’s Kitchen Pumpkin Spice Syrup and stir. Blend in Cachaça 51 and coffee brandy. Top with heavy cream by pouring gently over back of spoon. Serve hot.

Barbecue Recipes to Celebrate Labor Day


We at Cliché have mixed feelings about Labor Day. While any holiday gives us the perfect excuse to relax and have fun (and in this case, to honor the American labor movement), Labor Day also marks the unofficial end of summer, and this year, it feels especially difficult to say goodbye. However, we’re ready to give this summer one last hurrah, and what better way than with a delicious barbecue? Here, we share some of our favorite grill-ready recipes from Sparkling Ice.

Coconut Pineapple Skewers

  • 1 bottle Coconut Pineapple Sparkling Ice
  • ½ cup olive oil + extra to brush pineapple
  • 2 teaspoons harissa paste or other spicy chili sauce (like Siracha)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 ¼ – 1 ½ lbs. chicken tenders
  • 1 fresh pineapple – peeled, cut into 1½” chunks
  • 2 cups cooked rice
  • Toasted coconut for garnish, optional
  • Cilantro for garnish, optional
Special Equipment:
  • 16 Wooden skewers for grilling
  • In large shallow baking dish combine Coconut Pineapple Sparkling Ice, olive oil, harissa, salt and stir to combine. Reserve 1/3 cup marinade for basting
  • Add chicken tenders, turning to coat. Cover and let marinate in refrigerator for 2 hours
  • Meanwhile, soak 16 wooden skewers in water
  • String marinated chicken on 8 wooden skewers
  • String pineapple on remaining skewers and brush with olive oil
  • Heat grill to medium high
  • Grill chicken and pineapple on two separate parts of grill. Grill chicken for 4 – 6 minutes per side (depending on thickness and heat)
  • Remove to platter and baste with reserved marinade
  • Grill pineapple until slightly caramelized
  • Serve with cooked rice
  • Garnish with cilantro and toasted coconut if desired
