We understand if you’ve been needing a ladies night out, but it’s been hard getting the girls together with work and life in general. A great, inexpensive way to relax and catch up with all your gal pals: movies. We’ve selected a favorite of ours with leading role, Mel Gibson, and supporting performance from the late Heath Ledger in The Patriot. Perhaps it’s not your typical patriotic movie for the 4th, but we love any excuse to still watch the talented and beautiful Heath Ledger.

Music is an excellent way to get you into the St. Patrick’s Day spirit! There’s great traditional Irish music like that of The Dubliners or The Chieftains. Jessica Stefan: Bookworms in Dresses

Jessica Stefan, from the blog Bookworms in Dresses, is one down-to-earth soul who we absolutely adore with her life-filled posts that not only feature her cozy and modest style, but her many adventures as well. From delicious recipes written sometimes by her boyfriend, Alex, to the epic to-do lists she features (ones that make ours look like they need some serious editing!), her blog is a great resource for everything and anything. She’s a blogger from Pittsburgh who many of us can absolutely relate to with the many interests she has and shares, including home decor, books, and delicious eats. When not delving into her adorable and busy life (she’s a freelance designer, student, barista, bookworm, and traveler – talk about some serious skills!), she photographs her on-the-go and intricate outfits. Get to know Jessica and her personal style by reading on! Not to mention, she kind of reminds us of Jess from New Girl. We know; you’re wishing she was your best friend, too!

Cliché: What are your beauty/fashion routines?
Jessica Stefan: I try for a more natural look on a daily basis. I like using a BB creme, blush, and mascara. If I’m heading out to lunch with friends, sometimes I’ll throw on some eyeliner! My favorite product right now is Etude House Collagen Moistfull BB creme. It’s a Korean product that my best friend swears by. It matches my skin tone really well and blends easily.

Name the top three products you couldn’t live without this season.
Benefit’s new eyeliner has saved me; I’m in love! I supported a Kickstarter a while ago called Nerdwax, which is chapstick for your glasses to keep them up on your nose, and I just got it in the mail today and it’s wonderful! As someone who wears glasses when I don’t feel like putting in contacts, it’s been really helpful! I’m also in love with Essie’s fall 2014 nail polishes! I love the colors and the names.

Any staple items that you think are fall must-haves? If so, why?
Boots! Being from up north, I live in my boots. I have a few pairs: some thrifted old army boots and some new lace up ones as well. You also won’t catch me without a big chunky sweater on this fall.
What’s your number one tip to feeling good in what you’re wearing?
Look confident. If you look confident, hold your head up and strut your stuff, and then you’ll feel confident as well. Don’t worry about what others think; style is something we all have and everyone’s is different.

Jacquelyn Son: The Style Worthwhile

Positive vibes are all around when it comes to lifestyle blogger Jacquelyn Son, who hails from Vancouver, BC. She is all about creating a healthy life both inside and out, something we absolutely love and believe in just as much as she does. Her outlook focuses on if you feel good, you will look good. What’s better and more simple than that? With her gorgeous lavender locks and spunky, live-life-to-the-fullest attitude, Jacquelyn is a breath of fresh air whenever we hop onto her blog, The Style Worthwhile. She keeps her readers always hungry to read something new, including the delicious and healthy recipes she showcases. Not only is this powerful blogger a positive soul and stylish woman, but she’s a personal trainer as well! Can you say superwoman? Read on to see how Jacquelyn can help you utilize self-empowerment to show you how being you is the best you that you can be.

Cliché: What are your beauty/fashion routines?
Jacquelyn Son: You won’t usually see me with a lot of makeup on, as I work as a personal trainer and having sweaty black eyes isn’t a good look in the gym! Whenever I do wear makeup, I start with some tinted moisturizer, neutral eye shadow, mascara, and my must-have – blush. If it’s a very special occasion, I’ll do a winged eyeliner look. Otherwise, I prefer to go without. I don’t have a set fashion routine, and I usually go with the flow. Some of the best outfits I have created have been spontaneous and on-the-go.

Name the top three products you couldn’t live without this season.
My EOS mint lip balm, L’occitane shea butter hand cream, and Neutrogena shine control powder.
Any staple items that you think are fall must-haves?
A warm pair of leggings, an oversized cardigan, and black ankle boots. This is basically my uniform for fall – effortless and simple.

VOGA Wine: The Bottle to Bring!

Superbowl Sunday: a day dedicated to football, screaming at the tv, drinking beer, and eating lots of food. I personally am not the sport type, but I do enjoy delicious food and drinks while hanging out with great friends. To my fellow wine lovers, you would understand my level of excitement when VOGA Italia Wine sent me a box of goodies a few days before the Superbowl, including a bottle of Pinot Grigio, Dolce Rosso, Prosecco, and Sparkling wine. I have always been interested in the different types of wine and how they pair with specific foods. VOGA Italia Wine also sent over a list of Superbowl foods that compliment my new bottles of wine.

We brought our VOGA Italia wine to this year’s Superbowl Party, a big change to the usual beer my friends and I drink. My favorite foods are the unhealthy and fried ones such as boneless buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks, burgers, and nachos, but to my luck, these are the suggested Superbowl foods that the VOGA Italia wine would go great with!

We started off with pairing the Pinot Grigio with guacamole and Tostitos chips. Pinot Grigio is my favorite wine and I love the VOGA Italia Pinot Grigio. The light wine complimented the saltiness of the Tostitos chips very well and didn’t overpower the hints of red onion and jalapeño in the guacamole. We then moved on to the sweet Dolce Rosso that we paired with mini burger sliders. I prefer my burgers well done and thought the Dolce Rosso left a very savory taste. Next we moved on to the Prosecco wine matched with spicy buffalo chicken pizza. The Prosecco went well with the spice of the buffalo sauce and the thick pizza dough. We saved the Sparkling wine for dessert which we paired with funfetti cupcakes and sugar cookies. With only 155 calories a bottle, we sure made up for the rest of the calories with the sweets.

VOGA Italia wine is now my new favorite brand of wine to drink. With the bottles ranging from $10.99 to $15.99, not only are they affordable, but they are very delectable in taste, too. Choosing to drink wine instead of beer left us feeling unbloated and made our food tastier. Visit their website at Vogaitalia.com. BY TATIANA STEC

Destino: Delectable, Addictive, Authentic, Oh My!

IMG_3193As per usual, my favorite city in the world, New York City, does it again with providing the best of the best in the culinary world. Destino, located on first avenue and fiftieth street in Midtown, provides traditional Southern Italian cooking.  Opening in 2006, Destino has quickly made its way to the top in regards to superb Italian cooking. The dining area comfortably seats up to 110 guests, while the private mezzanine provides room for an additional 15. If you are looking for something a little more private, the restaurant also offers a private dining room that can hold up to a gathering of 30.

Destino prides itself on using the freshest ingredients while staying true to homestyle cooking. While at Destino, I started with the Polpettine Di Mario, the house specialty meatballs. The meatballs were served over marinara sauce and garnished with parsley. As I’ve said before, I’m pretty particular when it comes to marinara sauce since I grew up in an Italian household; however, Destino more than satisfied my taste buds. Their sauce provided just the right amount of spice that compliments the sweetness of the tomato-based sauce perfectly. If you ever had the luxury of visiting an Italian household and have joined in on a family-style dinner, then you can imagine how wonderful the meatballs themselves tasted. If I hadn’t met the cook myself, I would have sworn my grandmother was in the back mixing up a huge batch of meatballs. One taste and I was hooked!

IMG_3192The meatballs accompanied a tray of bruschetta that was also absolutely to die for.  After the meatballs, which I complimented with a glass of Chianti, I had the Pollo Milanese. The Milanese is a thinly breaded chicken breast that is topped with baby arugula, cherry tomatoes, red onions, and buffalo mozzarella, and it is garnished with a bit of balsamic vinaigrette. As can be expected, the chicken was fork tender. The breading did not overpower the chicken but instead created a light crust around the moist meat. All toppings were fresh and complimented each other perfectly. In terms of Pollo Milanese, this was by far the best I’ve ever had.

After dinner and fine conversation, Destino began to pick up its business by seven o’clock; I went on a Monday night and it was bustling with customers. The restaurant provides a traditional homemade treat to its patrons while providing a modern atmosphere: the walls are a combination of clear mirrors and clean white walls, complemented by lights placed around them. The most impressive part of the decor, however, is the mural that is located on the ceiling. I was told that the mural represents the story of Bacchus, the Roman God of Wine. After some research, I discovered that the story of Bacchus represents letting go and enjoying the day without the stress of everyday life. Destino chose Bacchus to represent its message by indulging in the comfort of food and the luxury of wine. Destino’s message is to enjoy the day, and the Bacchus mural couldn’t have been a more appropriate reminder.
IMG_3200After learning about the Bacchus message that Destino so appropriately portrays, I decided to indulge in some after-dinner sweets, and I am happy I did. My sin of indulgence at Destino was none other than a piece of traditional Italian-style cheesecake. The cheesecake was drizzled with a thin layer of raspberry sauce that added a level of moisture to the cake that makes it melt in your mouth. I also had the treat of accompanying the dessert with an assortment of Biscotti cookies, which were sprinkled with confectioners’ sugar, and a rich cup of coffee. To describe these treats would not do it justice. Take my advice, if you are in the New York City area, you simply have to go and treat yourself to one of New York’s best restaurants.

The Rich and the Succulent: Paname Steps onto NYC’s Restaurant Scene

Often enough in life we find things to blame for putting us in positions that  might not be ideal. If we’re late for work, we blame traffic. If we’re out of clean clothes, we blame our schedule. With recent health and fitness tactics arising, we are now blaming our previous bad health on food. While all food may have taken the heat once in awhile, French cuisine has been hit the hardest. From their rich sauces, to their succulent meats and cheeses, it’s easy to blame French inspired food on what we don’t like about ourselves. While French food may often be rich and decadent, if you can’t fit in a little indulgence in your life every once and awhile, then you’re simply not living right.

With French food taking the heat for bad eating habits, we’ve seen fewer and fewer French restaurants making their way into our hearts; however, Paname, a new French restaurant located on Second Ave between 56th and 57th streets in New York City has not only made it’s way into my heart, but has fully captured and locked it away.

Paname, which is slang for Paris, has created a flock of loyal patrons who claim to indulge in the restaurant’s food weekly. Bernard Ros, owner and executive chef, brought his traditional French style cooking to the United States forty years ago and has made quite the impression worldwide. Ros has owned eight restaurants worldwide and has an impeccable reputation with chefs and business owners alike. His food speaks for itself.

IMG_3226I started my meal at Paname with a grilled portobello Mushroom topped with mozzarella and red peppers and drizzled with a balsamic vinaigrette. Now, without trying the famous crab cakes (due to a seafood allergy) I can honestly say it’s hard to imagine that anything is better than this. The mushroom, cheese and peppers complimented each other perfectly, and the dish wasn’t too heavy for an appetizer; however, it satisfied a craving

I followed my starter with the Niman Ranch Pork Scallopini with Mushroom Creme Sauce.  The pork was accompanied by mashed potatoes and an array of vegetables. The pork was fork tender, and the creme sauce was the perfect condiment. To be honest, I was worried that the pork may be fatty, or the sauce too heavy but neither element was overwhelming.

After the entree, my dinner companion and I transitioned into an easy conversation that gave us time to relax before we rewarded ourselves by indulging in some sweets. While talking about everything you should never talk about during dinner such as politics, religion, and current events, I couldn’t help but notice the comfortable ambiance of Paname. Everywhere I looked there were people enjoying their food, leisurely talking and taking a load off from the hustle and bustle of New York City. Not one person complained, or seemed unhappy or unsatisfied. Whether it was the calming walls that were accented with dark wood, or the artwork hanging beautifully around, or maybe the arrangements of beautiful spring flowers that complimented the crisp white table cloths around the restaurant. Whatever it was, it provided an atmosphere for Paname that was conducive to fine dining.

IMG_3227By the time my desert arrived, I was salivating waiting for it. I was always a fan of Creme Brûlée, but I had never had the opportunity to have it at an authentic French restaurant. With all the excitement I was building in my head, the actual product did not let me down. This creme brûlée was the best I’ve ever had. The rich, smooth custard topped with a hard layer of caramel was heated to perfection. The desert was topped with a a swirl of whipped creme, a fresh cut strawberry and chocolate sprinkles. The custard was the smoothest I’ve ever had and complimented the sweet, tartness of the strawberry perfectly. Even though I was stuffed from the delectable offerings I had previously indulged in, I simply couldn’t leave a drop of this heaven in the plate. With all the deserts being home-made, it’s no wonder that this desert is nothing short of amazing.

In a time where we are finally aware of how to properly fuel our bodies to live a long and healthy life, I can understand the hesitation to indulge in food as addictive and rich as French food. However, from my experience it’s worth the risk. Paname will leave you full and satisfied yet craving more at the same time. For anyone looking to indulge in one of life’s riches, I’d, without hesitation, recommend Paname.
