What To Wear To Your Socially Distant 4th of July Party

This Fourth of July is not like any most of us have ever experienced. With COVID-19 still a very real threat, how are we supposed to celebrate? Andrew Cuomo, governor of New York, says, “Remember that COVID won’t take July 4th weekend off. Wear a mask. Stay six feet apart. Wash hands with soap often. Big July 4 parties — especially indoor ones — are a bad idea. A really bad idea.” on his Twitter, letting his 2.3 million followers know that just because we are being safe, it doesn’t mean we have to forfeit celebrations all together.

After you have narrowed down the list of who is coming to your Fourth of July social distance bash, you have to decide what to wear. Being as it is the Fourth of July, naturally you gravitate towards the red, white, and blue in your wardrobe- but there’s more you can do to stand out. Here are 3 ways to stand out, from 6 feet away, at your Fourth of July celebration.

1- Be The Sunshine

While the Fourth typically calls for patriotic garments, it is also a summer event. As an adult, it may feel harder to put together an American flag outfit without it looking childish, so a good way to change it up, while staying in theme, is to throw in some light colors. Instead of a deep red, pick out a pastel pink pair of shorts to go with a white blouse, and add some bright blue accessories such as a wide brim hat or bracelets. Bright yellows are becoming popularized again, so incorporating a sunshiny hue into your outfit is definitely a pro-tip this coming summer.

2- Masks, But Make it Fashion!

Masks are becoming more and more prominent in our day to day fashion and lifestyle. While many have been incorporating masks into fashion for events such as Coachella for years now, the average person is still getting used to wearing them for mundane tasks such as a grocery store run or a trip to the park. While masks can sometimes be a nuisance, it is important that we look at the bright side. Masks can actually enhance your outfit, especially themed outfits. If you are looking for a great way to show your patriotism and still stay safe, you can get a mask that has the American flag on it. If you are looking for something simple to tie in your outfit, a mask of the right color could be the cherry on top you are looking for.

3- Filled to The Brim

It’s 4:00 p.m. and the sun is beating down hard on your barbecue. You are sweating and it’s hard to see how much margarita mix you’re spilling when the sun is in your eyes. Where do you go from here? The perfect accessory for this year’s summer bashes is a wide brimmed hat. It functions as a means to protect your face, eyes, and head from the sun’s rays, while also being the statement piece of your outfit. Paired with a relatively plain and color blocked outfit such as the aforementioned white blouse with pastel pink shorts, this accessory stands out without creating a busy look of too many pieces put together.

While your Fourth of July look may be important, it is imperative that we all stay safe during these times.

Chambray Romper: There’s nothing more American than denim in every type of garment.  This season go for chambray, a lighter, softer material with a denim look.  The romper is the ultimate effortless outfit choice.  Dress it down with white Converse or pair your romper with red sandals or heels for upscale cookouts.

Bandanas: Rosie the Riveter with a twist.  Replace your necklaces with a tied bandana to make any outfit look more patriotic.  Make a bandana the statement piece of your outfit, pairing it with a simple white top and denim cutoffs.

Red Heels: Avoid stilettos on this fairly casual holiday.  Opt for a chunky heel in a bold red tone to pair with cutoffs, raw hem or white jeans, and dresses.  A versatile choice, your shoes can be the standout piece with a simple outfit or pair them with another small red accessory, such as a clutch, that pull the outfit together from head to toe.  Whatever you choose, red heels are sure to make your look patriotic.

Wide Leg Pants: This style is perfect for a classier look this weekend.  With a loose yet flattering fit, wide leg is the way to go for a summer pant.  Try a bold color or pattern to brighten your look like the royal blue style below, or a pinstripe to complete your patriotic look.  To avoid losing any height in these pants, pair them with a heel and fitted top.

Graphic Tee: The graphic t-shirt is a classic look for the Fourth of July.  This year, add style to the look by pairing a graphic tee with a jean skirt or tucked into white jeans with simple accessories.  Instead of an overdone flag print top, choose a more subtle look–a white shirt with bold red or blue lettering, a striped top, etc. Complete the look with Converse, strappy sandals or espadrille flats.

Instead you should look into 4th of July specials at restaurants, clubs, bars, the boardwalk or even an event your local community is celebrating. With all these options to choose from how do you know which ones to attend? Well, I have come up with a list of eight special places to hit for your 4th of July celebration in Miami.

America’s Birthday Bash at Bayfront Park: This is definitely a place you want to bring the whole family to. You’ll be enjoying everything from live music, delicious food, and dancing, plus you’ll be surrounded by gorgeous scenery. You’ll never have a dull moment! The festival starts at 2 p.m. and by 9 p.m. you’ll have a great view of the fireworks.

Key Biscayne Fourth of July Parade: This event starts at 11 a.m. on July 4th  on Crandon Boulevard at 11 a.m. and will proceed south. This will be one experience that no one will forget. There will be tons of live music, food, and of course an array of floats. Speaking of floats, the Homemade Float Contest will also be taking place. Fireworks will also begin at 9 p.m., don’t miss them, it’s the best part.

Via Verdi Restaurant: Get your 50’s clothes out! On Tuesday July 1st Via Verdi will be hosting a Patriotic-Themed Retro Martini Party. It starts at 7 p.m. and concludes at 11 p.m. make sure you reserve online at http://www.viaverdimiami.com/rsvp/.

National Hotel Miami Beach BBQ Bash: Located on Miami Beach, there will be BBQ and drink specials at the Aqua Bar & Grill and other local hotels. I suggest renting a room for a few days to take full advantage of this celebration. Think about it, you’ll be able to lounge poolside, surrounded by palm trees and friends, while you watch the fireworks. The Miami Beach firework show will be located by Eighth Street and Ocean Drive and it starts at 9 p.m.

Hard Rock Café Party Boat: On July 2nd take this party boat that leaves out of Bayside, near the Hard Rock Cafe at 2:30 p.m. sharp and go sightseeing around Star Island for 20 minutes. Then the boat pulls up on an island where you can enjoy over five water sports. Doesn’t that sound fun? Plus sodas and snacks are included; beer and wine have an additional $3.00 charge.

Mekka: “Original Sin After Hours, Be Independent Event,  4th of July Edition.” Doors open at midnight on Thursday, July 3rd and the party goes on until noon on Friday morning. Mekka is located at 950 NE 2nd Ave.

City of Aventura: Is having their 19th annual independence firework celebration. It will be a beautiful view for all and it’s the perfect time to take unforgettable selfies. Fireworks begin at 9 p.m.

Red, White, and Fabulous: Manicure Mania

On this Independence day, celebrate in style. There is no better way to showcase chic patriotism than with festive nail art! Staying with this year’s “mix it up” trend, have fun decorating each nail with different patterns and colors to make an explosive statement. Here’s a list of Fourth of July nail essentials that are sure to leave the crowds mesmerized.

1. Start with the Basic Background colors. You can’t go wrong with a solid red, white, or blue basecoat. Choose a vibrant shade that is sure to give you a fun canvas to work with.

2. You can’t leave out those Marvelous Metallics! Try a simple shade from Essie’s “Mirror Metallics” collection to help you achieve the ultimate patriotic flair.

3. No Fourth of July manicure is complete without some Glamorous Glitters. Whether it’s one nail or three, make a statement that will pop. Try a product like Sally Hansen’s Gem Crush Nail Color. Its glitter formula gives you full coverage and instantly turns your nails into a firework of art.

4. If you’re the not-so-artsy type, like me, Sassy Stickers were made with you in mind. Whether you go with applique nails or press on rhinestones and studs, adhesives bring on the style without the mess or hassle.

5. Don’t forget: a manicure is only as fabulous as the manicurist’s instruments. Find Tiny Tools, such as Art Deco thin nail polish brushes and picks. With these, the designs in your mind will come to life, and the mistakes will fade away before you’re out the door for that barbeque.
