One of my personal favorite features is back—Bands Interviewing Bands! In this unique feature, we take two bands and have them interview each other about everything and anything having to do with the recording process, industry insight, touring, getting fans out to show, and other questions that only other artists would know to ask. Catch our latest interview with Septacy and Trace Repeat—two Bay Area bands with two very different sounds, and follow them and get to know their music at the links below.
From a young age, rising star Brit Daniels has had a deep passion for music. Before she was born, her mom would put headphones on her pregnant belly because she wanted Daniels to love music like she did. Not much later, Daniels was belting out “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” in her backyard at the age of 2 and her parents knew she was destined to be a musician. Daniels was recording by the age of 13 and started really getting to know herself as an artist.
Thirteen-year-old singer/DJ Chloe Jane is eager to share her passion with the world. This young artist is writing songs and mixing beats in hopes of pursuing her dream. She has worked with some great artists to help her develop her abilities and she is ready to take on more. Her first single “Superstar” debuted on June 21 and we can’t wait for what else is to come. Here, we chat with the rising artist about when she realized she wanted to become a singer and DJ and what it was like working with Meghan Trainor.
Retro-pop duo Fly By Midnight is back with yet another original track that will make you fall in love with their music (if you haven’t already yet, that is). The aptly titled single “Vibe” is just what it sounds like: a sexy, fun, feel-good anthem you can jam to. It even inspired a mini-documentary called “The Vibe of Staten Island,” in partnership with Urban Outfitters, out soon.
The Technicolors are an energetic, ‘90s Britpop-inspired three-piece made up of Brennan Smiley and Sean Silverman on vocals and guitar and Mike ‘Nico’ Nicolette on bass. Ahead of the release of their newest album, Metaphysical, they announced a European tour starting in the United Kingdom and ending in Spain. We chatted with Silverman about the concept behind Metaphysical and their upcoming adventures.
Actors may say that they became close to their costars on set, but in Britt Baron’s case, she was literally close with the other actors while filming the Netflix series GLOW. “You’re in each other’s armpits and you’re rolling around with each other,” Baron said. “It made filming just an amazing, goofy, hilarious process and I think these girls are like my sisters for life.”
It’s safe to say most beauty companies advertise on the philosophy that “if you look good, you will feel good.” Who doesn’t feel like they can take on the world the second after they swipe on their favorite red lipstick, or when they got their winged eyeliner perfect on the first try? As a beauty enthusiast myself, I admit a good hair day or a little extra mascara goes a long way when I’m feeling down, but I know the other way around is just as true: if you feel good, your natural beauty will shine through.
Francesca Curran cares about Netflix’s Orange Is the New Black as much as you do. As Helen, the white supremacist and Neo-Nazi, Curran must step outside of herself and still find depth and humanity in and for her character. The future looks bright for Curran and now that season five of Orange Is the New Black is streaming on Netflix, the sky’s the limit. She has dreams of working with your favorite actors and has already worked with some of your favorite directors on OITNB. We can’t wait to see what happens next for the eager and talented actress and we’ll be rooting for her the entire way.
It’s summer, so we get it. You’re either out soaking in some Vitamin D or you’re inside binge-watching all of the series you need to catch up on. (Instead of Netflix and chill, isn’t it more like Netflix and sweat?) After you finish the latest season of Orange Is the New Black, hop onto another Netflix original, Anne with an E, based on the 1908 novel Anne of Green Gables. To give you a quick summary, the series is a coming-of-age story about an orphan named Anne who is looking to be accepted and loved by everyone around her. We all know that feeling.
The indie-folk band Lola Marsh is taking the music world by storm. They are currently sharing their unique, one-of-a-kind sound now, touring Europe and the U.S. After many sleepless nights and challenges, Lola Marsh is going strong and promoting their new album Remember Roses. We chatted with vocalist Yael Shoshana Cohen about the band and what makes them who they are.
In 2013, a new doll was introduced to haunt our dreams when she made her debut in The Conjuring. (So long, Chuckie!) It’s the ladies’ turn, so enter Annabelle. It’s hard to deny the creepiness of the Raggedy Ann doll and the legends that come with it. As a result, dolls have been portrayed as the antagonist in many horror movies. We don’t blame you for being scared of them.
Chad Rook is a man of many talents who plays to those strengths. The 35-year-old actor from Alberta has been in many popular shows over the years, such as Supernatural and The Flash. Rook has even covered other aspects of filmmaking besides acting, like directing and producing other films in multiple genres from comedy to drama. In terms of his work schedule, Rook has a sufficient amount on his plate and never feels that he should stop.
