Virgil Abloh Teases Louis Vuitton at Met Gala

The Met Gala is one of the biggest events on the fashion calendar, giving designers a place to not only showcase jaw-dropping works of art but also to debut new pieces. Within the flurry of fashion paradise, Virgil Abloh debuted one of his first pieces for Louis Vuitton. Although the founder of the label Off-White has yet to have his inaugural runway show for the luxury brand (it is set for June), he utilized the Met Gala to premiere the new path Louis Vuitton will see.

Perhaps the most telling aspect of Abloh’s future is the image he and his date struck. The designer wore an all-white suit with embroidery detail of a church’s stained glass from what will be the designer’s first Louis Vuitton Runway. Alongside the suit that will be seen in the designer’s runway this June, Abloh was one of the few men on the runway wearing a pair of sneakers. The made Off-White x Air Jordan 1s had Abloh’s signature graphic print and deconstruction. His Met Gala choice defines the designer’s interest in mixing low- and high-culture while the suit details Abloh’s ability to transcend the world of t-shirts and hoodies into luxury. The sneakers show that just because a piece is haute doesn’t mean it can’t be street.

Beside the designer was no other than this date, Kendall Jenner. As a pinnacle of youth culture, the model wore an all white Off-White jumpsuit alongside a pair of Jimmy Choo x Off-White heels. Although the two were dressed in Abloh’s differing brands, both pieces were conceptualized by a shared interest in streetwear overtaking high-fashion—as well as detailing Abloh’s dedication to his future at Louis Vuitton and his past at Off-White. The symbolism of placing himself in LV and Kendall in Off-White captures a piece of Abloh’s ideology going forward with both brands. He told the New York Times, “Off-White is for the seventeen-year-old version of myself, whereas Louis Vuitton is for the thirty-seventy-year old me.” The teenage skater vibe of Off-White will stay with the brand, and Louis Vuitton will maintain its refined, tailored look but something more ‘cool’ is definitely on its way.

Louis Vuitton’s appointment of Abloh showcases the brand’s desire to change. The days of luxury brands being remote and inaccessible are over; now is the time for the approachable, street-friendly clothing that millennials and Generation Z are interested in. After working as Kanye West’s creative director and founding one of the largest, most influential streetwear brands in 2013, Abloh has long had his finger on the pulse of all things cool. The Met Gala granted us a glimpse at what the interbreeding of street and luxury-wear will bring and there’s no doubt our eyes are hungry for more.

The Ultimate Duo: Kendall Jenner and Adidas

Kendall Jenner: model, photographer, Kardashian. She’s been known to be the most fashion industry-oriented Kardashian, and with her partnership with Adidas, she is proving so.

Aside from being the only Kardashian sister to not have had major cosmetic surgery done, Kendall has also earned herself respect and recognition in the fashion industry for something other than shaking her butt on national television. Jenner has taken what she’s learned from modeling and applied it to photography. Most known for her cover shoot with her sister Kylie for Love Magazine, Jenner has proved that she really can do both: fashion and photography.

Following in the footsteps of Cara Delevingne and Gigi Hadid, who were once strictly runway models, Jenner has begun to expand her career. She did not walk in Fashion Month nor the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show this past year. Instead, her only part of Fashion Week was the presentation of Daniëlle Cathari x Adidas. Some speculate that she has realized that runway modeling is a temporary career. Jenner’s choice to expand her brand has proven to be successful.

But you can never forget where you come from. Jenner has managed to evolve from a television personality into a major creative force in fashion and become the latest Adidas Originals Ambassador. Many credit Kanye West with the jointure of Adidas and Kendall. West’s popular Adidas Yeezys were such a hit that the famous rapper was rumored to have put in a good word for Kendall. Thus, the collaboration of Kendall and Adidas began.

The Daniëlle Cathari x Adidas Originals collection was released on February 17. Jenner was the star of the collection’s presentation at New York Fashion Week, which has since been a hit. However, Jenner was not just the face of the brand. She also got the chance to collaborate with Adidas designers and voice her ideas throughout the design process. Although it is a known fact that any business the Kardashians touch turns to gold, the jointure between Adidas and Jenner lacks neither style nor innovation, and it is one that will be profitable for both parties.

The innovation behind this presentation was more than apparent. The collection featured asymmetric skirts, denim jackets, deconstructed racing stripe tracksuits, and a colorway for each fashion week city. London will receive the yellow colorway, New York the orange, Paris the blue, and Shanghai the pink. Each piece was a redesigned version of the original Adidas designs: the racing stripe and snap side seams were deconstructed and reconstructed to fit in with the asymmetrical look. The designs, combined with Jenner’s massive following, ensured the collection would be a hit.

A second drop is projected to release this month. With the success of the previous collection, there is much anticipation for what is to come. This collaboration is just proof that the athleisure trend is here to stay. With Jenner’s casual yet high fashion style, and Adidas’s timeless shoes, the two are a match made in heaven.

Strobing vs. Contouring

Contouring is out, and strobing is in. But what exactly is strobing? Strobing is a part of the contouring family; it’s practically a cousin or a sister of contouring. Made by famous by Kim Kardashian and her BFF makeup artist, Mario Dedivanovic, strobing is all about bringing that glow to your complexion, whereas contouring is about accentuating features by making them more prominent or shadowy. BY STACEY CAMACHO

Do you want to bring that glow to your face? After all, it does add freshness, youthfulness, and radiance, all of which make your complexion look healthy. If you do want that glow, then strobing will be your friend. Remember to add illuminizer to all areas of where the sun hits your face, such as the center of your forehead, brow bones, under the eyes, tops of cheekbones, center of nose, as well as the center of the chin. Don’t be afraid to illuminize!
Begin contouring by using makeup two shades darker and two shades lighter to highlight your face. Contour the hairline to minimize your forehead, and highlight in the middle of the forehead. To minimize your nose, add bronzer on the outer bridges of the nose on both sides and highlight the center of it. To add cheekbones, contour at the hairline right above your ear and follow through with your brush; it should be right below your cheekbones. Finish that off by highlighting right above your cheekbones.
Have a lot of cheek and looking to downsize it? No problem. With your contour brush, contour right at the jawline. Don’t forget to highlight right above the jawline. Want bigger lips? Outline your lips not on the lip line, but right on the outside. Highlight your lips by applying a lipstick or gloss, and contour your decolletage if you want them to be fuller or more shapely. Top this look off by highlighting your cleavage.
