Top 15 Healthiest Sports

Today we want to talk about the top 15 healthiest sports. Keeping fit is challenging, and not everyone wants to go to the gym. Thankfully a lot of our favorite sports can also be good exercise even if you’re just playing as a complete amateur. So why not take your motivation from the sport you support, whether it be the Bundesliga, tennis, rugby, or many others? If you’re looking to play for a combination of fitness and enjoyment, here are the top 15 healthiest sports to get you started.

  1. Running

Head out onto the track for a spot of running, and if you can achieve speeds of around 8 miles an hour, you can enjoy burning around 1074 cal in that time. Even better, there is no actual equipment required except for a good pair of trainers to protect your feet.

  1. Soccer

Soccer, or football, as they call it in the UK, is the most-watched sport of all time. There are plenty of amateur football teams who meet and have a kick around, but you do need some other players to really get this off the ground. If you’re looking for fitness, football can burn 937 cal every hour.

  1. Taekwondo

Exercise and mental discipline combine for the practice of taekwondo. This can be practised alone, but it is better to get expert tuition where possible. You’re looking at a calorie burn of 937 cal an hour.

  1. Swimming

Exercise in water is good for the joints as there is no pressure, but in order to achieve the 892 cal deficit, you do actually need to be swimming quite vigorously, not just floating around on your back in the shallows.

  1. Tennis

If you love tennis, then you’ll be pleased to know that an hour in front of the net can burn 728 cal. Of course, this is based on a single game, not a doubles match; otherwise, your partner is doing half the work.

  1. Flag Football

A variation on traditional soccer, flag football can still burn an impressive 728 cal per hour. Again, there is not much in the way of equipment, but you are going to need some friends to form a team.

  1. Basketball

If you fancy yourself as a bit of a slam-dunker, or you enjoy dribbling across the court, then basketball might well be the choice for you. You can burn up to 728 cal an hour and play by yourself or with a team.

  1. Racquetball

It may not be as popular as tennis, but racquetball is the perfect game to play indoors when the weather isn’t so good. The good news is it can also burn you 637 cal an hour, making it relatively healthy.

  1. Ice Skating

If you’re old enough to remember Torvill and Dean, then ice-skating might be something you’d enjoy. But, of course, it does take skill, and you must learn to stay upright on the ice to burn the 637 cal an hour.

  1. Cross-country Skiing

Cross country skiing is a popular winter Olympic sport and something you can enjoy even as a new skier. Because it is cross country, it tends to take place on flatter rather than steeper slopes, so you get an excellent chance to learn new skills while burning 619 cal an hour.

  1. Baseball

Another fun way to go for that 455 cal an hour burn is to take to the baseball pitch. Of course, you’re not going to burn that many calories if you’re just standing fielding, but there is undoubtedly a good opportunity for fitness for the batter and a pitcher.

  1. Downhill Skiing

It may surprise you that downhill skiing only carries a 391 cal burn each hour, but of course, a lot of the time, you are just having to maintain your balance while gravity does the rest. However, it is a great fun way to get some exercise and play sports.

  1. Golf

Golf can burn 391 cal per hour, but here’s the catch: you must be your own caddy and carry the clubs to ensure that you really work that body. Nevertheless, it’s a popular sport and certainly one that many people enjoy.

  1. Volleyball

Volleyball is a great way to play sport and get healthy with an estimated calorie burn of 364 per hour. In addition, it is very physical, and playing on the sand means that you are engaging your core muscles to even stay upright, let alone hit the ball over the net. The only downside of volleyball is it’s not a solo activity, and you do need some teammates.

  1. Bowling

Last but not least on the list is bowling. You can actually burn 273 calories an hour on the bowling lane, and it’s a great social sport. So, grab your friends, change into your bowling shoes and head to the nearest bowling alley for some excellent sporting fun.

Wrap Up

Whichever sport tickles your fancy will keep you active and in shape. Which one is your favorite?

Could Lionel Messi Swap Barcelona for Miami This Year?

Could Lionel Messi Swap Barcelona for Miami this year? Easily the most famous soccer player in the world, Lionel Messi enjoys all the luxurious trappings of someone at the top of their game. As the highest paid sportsman in the world, which has afforded the Argentine ace a fabulous collection of sports cars, not to mention several fantastic homes in different countries. One of those homes could indicate where this remarkable footballer sees his future.

Barcelona Future Uncertain

Having already expressed a much-publicized desire to leave the club last summer, there has been constant speculation about where Messi will go next. Barcelona have struggled on and off the pitch this season, as the latest football betting odds lengthen to 6/1 for their chances of winning La Liga. The contract of their star player is also set to expire in June 2021,

Lionel Messi

After details of his contract with Barcelona were leaked to the Spanish press recently, it was revealed that Messi will have earned around $674 million during his current four-year deal. Working out at $168.5 million per season, that’s actually much higher than Forbes estimated in 2020 when publishing the annual World’s 100 Highest-Paid Athletes rankings.

Such a huge salary is also beyond the financial means of Barcelona, with the Spanish club having amassed debts reportedly in excess of $1.4 billion. Amidst ongoing club presidential elections, some candidates insist that a contract renewal for Messi is their top priority. However, the messy economic situation makes that increasingly unlikely.

Messi & The American Dream

Right now, there are very few clubs in world football that could realistically afford to sign Messi, should he decide to leave Barcelona in the summer. One potential option would be Paris Saint-Germain in France, while the strongest linked is Manchester City in England, with both clubs backed by seemingly limitless funds.

Despite the economic lure of these two clubs, joining either would also imply a change of countries. Messi originally joined Barcelona as a teenager, Spain is his principal home, while the 33-year-old must also consider the best interests of his family. With the latter his priority, Messi dropped some hints about making a “dream” move to the United States, during a TV interview in December 2020.

Given that Inter Miami led by David Beckham have expressed their interest, the MLS franchise would also have a distinct advantage. In November 2019, news broke that Messi had purchased an oceanfront condo for $5 million at Porsch Design Tower, conveniently located on Sunny Isles Beach in Miami. If he does head to the United States, it’s only natural to assume this would be the new home.

Decision Time Soon

The biggest question surrounding Messi at the moment is when he might move. Some soccer pundits believe he will eventually pen a new deal at Barcelona, although the economic realities at the club would suggest otherwise. The player himself is reluctant to talk about his future, for now, insisting that no decisions will be made until the coming summer. Nevertheless, the prospect of Messi coming to America remains a genuine possibility.

NBA Players With Amazing Fashion Sense

Today we want to share with you several NBA players with amazing fashion sense. The NBA season has been filled with plenty of surprises. The best surprises come from players that exceed all expectations. There have been some high caliber moments coming from players, so let’s take a look at who has positively surprised us the most. While some of these players have been surprising on the court, what they wear off the court might shock you as well.

Larry Nance Jr.

NBA Players With Amazing Fashion Sense

Photo by Josh Willink on Pexels

Nance is standing out this season like a LeBron James hairline. Nance has never been a great offensive scorer, but what is standing out this season is his ability to play defense. Nance leads the league in steals (2.6). He is beating out Jrue Holiday, Kawhi Leonard, and others for the top spot. The Cavaliers have started the season 4-3, which is a huge surprise given that the team owned a top draft piece and didn’t sign any major free agents.

Off the court, Nance announced in December that he was going to only wear aparallel to games that were owned by local businesses. Due to the pandemic, local businesses have been hit hard. For Nance, this was his way of supporting his community, even if it’s not the hottest threads out there.

Myles Turner

Who can’t get enough of Mr. Swat? While that may not be in an actual nickname, Turner is a man amongst boys in the paint. Turner leads the league in blocks per game (3.6). In his first game of the season, Turner had eight blocks against the New York Knicks. In his first three games combined, Turner finished with 17 blocks. Turner is slowly inserting his name into NBA awards predictions.

When it comes to fashion, Turner is public about how he wants to sport his style. He doesn’t copy anybody. He goes for the slim fit, which makes sense since he is 6-foot-11, and he doesn’t go commercial. Turner is his person when it comes to defining his look.

Julius Randle

NBA Players With Amazing Fashion Sense

Photo by JC Gellidon on Unsplash

If the playoffs started today, the Knicks would be the No. 5 seed. If the All-Star game was next week, Randle would be starting. Again, this is an overreaction to seven games but who saw this coming from Randle? Right now, Randle owns a stat line of 22.1 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 7.4 assists. His assists margin is tied with LeBron James for seventh-best in the league. Randle already has a triple-double this season and was just one assist away from having two. It’s early, but Randle is making noise to be a starter in the All-Star game.

Randle’s wife, Kendra, started her contemporary sportswear collection called Kalore. The fall collection featured tailored pants, dresses, jumpsuits, blazers, and body suits. Prices ranged from $40 to $125. While Randle has his threads that stand out, he also supports his wife’s brand. Kendra studied fashion while she was in college. The Randles is a true representation of two individuals participating in careers that they love.

Dave Portnoy and the creation of Barstool Sports

Today we want to talk about Dave Portnoy and the creation of Barstool Sports. In 2003, Dave Portnoy started Barstool Sports. His philosophy was to create a media publication that catered to people interested in gambling. Barstool found their audience, which eventually transformed into being called “Stoolies.” Not only did Barstool create content, but Portnoy also created a personality.

Today, Barstool has 41 active podcasts, which once included two podcasts, Pardon My Take and Call Her Daddy, ranked in the top 20 podcasts in the United States. However, they don’t just find inside information on how to gamble better but also enjoy listening to the personalities that make up most of the content or shows. For Portnoy, he is an American success that has worked his way up to stardom.

The early days

Before entering the online sports betting industry, Portnoy grew up in Swampscott, Massachusetts, where he attended the local high school. He went to high school with current ESPN football analyst Todd McShay. After high school, he attended the University of Michigan, where he graduated with a degree in education in 1995.

In 1999, Portnoy moved to Boston and worked at an IT market research firm at Yankee Group. After working at the company for four years, he left and founded Barstool Sports. Since then, nothing has been the same.

Barstool Sports

Most people that contribute to the site started as bloggers. Potentially, they wrote a comical commentary on their podcast or vlog. They know that they can be themselves to the fullest, which is something that makes the shows authentic. We have seen writers make frequent appearances on national and regional airwaves. From talking about the top NBA teams to the best bets on Sunday afternoons, the brand Barstool Sports is beloved for their honest takes that are accompanied by a boisterous personality.

The company has grown over the last five years. In 2016, the Chernin Group purchased a majority stake. The headquarters was moved to New York City. Four years later, Penn National Gaming purchased a 36% stake in Barstool Sports for $163 million. Despite splitting up ownership stakes, Portnoy remains the key cog in running the site and remains in charge of creative content.

Other ventures

Portnoy was once arrested in 2015 after three Barstool employees and he handcuffed one another on the floor of NFL headquarters. The protest was their way of reacting to Deflategate. Also, he has been detained after trying to sneak into the Super Bowl by creating fake passes. In 2019, Portnoy was investigated by the National Labor Relations Board on charges that he illegally threatened to fire his employees if they are unionized. The lawsuit was settled in December 2019. The settlement forced Portnoy to delete his tweets that discussed any of the matters.

In 2017, Portnoy created an internet show called One Bit with Davey Pageviews. The goal was to review every pizza place in Manhattan. Celebrities and athletes often appeared as guests. In 2013, he ran for Mayor of Boston as a Libertarian candidate but did not win.

Soccer Heroes That are Inspiring a New Age of Players

Today we want to talk about soccer heroes that are inspiring a new age of players.  Over the course of soccers’s history, we’ve been treated to the talents of some truly spectacular players who have formed the basis for unbelievable matches and lucky bets with tips on super 6. Up and coming players have their pick of some incredible soccer heroes to inspire them and learn from. These are some of the top soccer heroes that inspire the new age of players today.

Pablo Aimar

Lionel Messi is the inspiration for many people around the world. As a kid who grew up with a growth hormone deficiency and has gone on to be one of the top soccer players in the world, he’s a muse for millions who dream of following in his footsteps. But Messi has his own player that he admired as a young child and that was Pablo Aimar. Aimar was a technically brilliant player who had amazing skills on the pitch and played internationally. He was the source of inspiration for Messi and to this day, he is a fan.

Michael Owen

Liverpool striker Michael Owen was the reason for Sergio Aguero’s interest in soccer. In fact, Aguero was such a fan that he even mentioned Owen in his autobiography when he stated that he wanted to be Michael Owen when he was younger. The 2001 Ballon d’Or winner has served as a source of inspiration for many people since he set foot on the pitch at the age of 17 to play professionally for Liverpool.

Paul Pogba cites Kaka as the reason he aspired to a career in soccer. The Brazilian won the Ballon d’Or in 2007 when he was playing for Milan and played at the highest level in Europe, something that Pogba has since achieved himself. Pogba won the World Cup while playing for France and was the most expensive player in the world in 2016 when Manchester United paid £89m for his signature, something that he states is a result of wanting the virtues of players like Kaka.

Zinedine Zidane

Soccer Heroes

Zidane is one of the most famous soccer ball players in history but it’s not just fans that have loved watching him on the pitch over the years. The players we admire now are fans too. Eden Hazard has claimed that he idolises Zidane since childhood and that he was always inspired by his composure on the pitch and the elegance with which he played soccer.

Gabriel Batistuta

Striker Luis Suarez is a fan of the brilliance of Argentine Gabriel Batistuta – a player that has been labelled one of the greatest players of all time. Suarez has described Batistuta as the ultimate striker and has even been reported as saying that he studied how Batistuta played so he could improve his own performance on the pitch. Batistuta held the record as Argentina’s all-time leading goal-scorer until 2016, scoring 77 goals in 54 matches. So, it’s no surprise that he served as the inspiration to many players since his time in the spotlight.

Lewis Hamilton in Pole Position for Sports Personality of the Year Honors

Lewis Hamilton is in pole position for sports personality of the year honors.  Nobody has won more Formula 1 races than Lewis Hamilton. It’s for this remarkable achievement, driving fast cars on the Grand Prix circuit, that guarantees him a place among the greats in the history of motorsport.

He has eclipsed F1 legend Michael Schumacher and all but matched his seven drivers’ championships. Although this has taken him several years, Hamilton heads the BBC Sports Personality of the Year 2020 odds and betting at a price of evens.

As the market suggests, he is in pole position – pun intended – to win this major accolade again six years on from being voted the Personality of 2014. It has not been a strong year for British sporting achievements for obvious reasons, so this may be the perfect opportunity for him to get further recognition.

Seeking Positive Change

Hamilton has played down what he has done on the grid and racetrack this year. “Trying to improve conditions for people around the world – equal human rights – that’s the most important thing to me,” he told the BBC in an interview before the Turkish Grand Prix.

While it is easy to see why Hamilton is made favourite, he is not the only sportsman stepping outside of his arena and campaigning for a better world either. Manchester United and England footballer Marcus Rashford has used his profile and influence to change in government policy.

These are apt demonstrations of how powerful sport can be in the drive for social change. A footballer dictating to Westminster, while a racing car driver lends his weight and support to the Black Lives Matter campaign.

Before finding sporting superstardom at United’s “Theatre of Dreams”, Rashford had humble origins growing up in Greater Manchester. He has not forgotten who he is, and lobbied for the continuation of free school meals for kids outside of the classroom, urging and getting the government to extend it for the lengthy summer holidays and Christmas break.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Red Devils didn’t have a particularly successful football season. There were no trophies added to the Old Trafford cabinet as they sat and watched bitter rivals Liverpool win their first championship of the Premier League era.

In Rashford, they have a force for social good who, at 6/4 in the Sports Personality betting, is priced more on what he has done off the pitch than on it lately. The British public choose who wins the award and it appears on paper to be a straight battle between him and Hamilton.

There has been a marked shift away from footballers winning the vote this century, however. Just David Beckham (2001) and Ryan Giggs (2009) – both past Man Utd greats – have received the award since 1998.

Hamilton is one of five F1 drivers to have won it, alongside motorsport legends Stirling Moss, Jackie Stewart, Nigel Mansell and Damon Hill. Rashford may split voters, however, in this choice between driving excellence and the broader social tone of a desire for equality, and choosing someone who has helped low income families to feed their kids.

Great Ideas to Beat Weekend Boredom

Today we want to share a nice list of ways you can beat weekend boredom.  For the last few months most of us have been stuck at home trying to fill the day with fun things to do, but it can be difficult to find things to do when we are in the same place.

If you are feeling bored this weekend and you are looking for something to do, we want to give you some ideas. There are lots of ways to have fun at home this week, and you’ll feel more productive when you spend the day doing things you enjoy.

Here are some ideas for activities and jobs you can do this weekend to kill that boredom.

Watch sports

Even though the rest of the world is still uncertain right now, sport still goes on and provides us with entertainment and comfort. Check out the latest NFL Update or the baseball, make some game snacks and sit down to watch a game or two this weekend.

Weekend Boredom

Play board games

Board games are the kind of thing we mostly break out during the holidays but it is not only a holiday activity. You can also enjoy a good game on a weekend evening with your partner or your family. Sit down with a beer and some snacks and have a games night with your loved ones. It’s a good way to pass the time doing something a little different and it will allow you all to distract yourselves from any boredom you might be feeling.

Some great board games to play are:

  • Trivial pursuit
  • Monopoly
  • Frustration
  • Ludo

Go for a walk

Being stuck in the same four walls for many months has likely sent a lot of us loopy, and now is a great time to take a walk outside and get some much needed fresh air and sunshine. Take the time this weekend to set off from your house and take a walk around your hometown. You’ll often discover little green areas you never knew existed and it can be a great excuse to make the most of your home neighborhood. You can make a walk as short or as long as you want and if it rains you’ll never be too far from home!

Try a workout

If you are looking for something different to do this weekend and you haven’t done a workout for a while ; why not try to do one in your living room? There are tons of workouts online to try and you can even get your family involved as a fun activity. Try a body combat session, a dance workout, or even practice some relaxing yoga and feel better physically and mentally after doing it.

Do some gardening

Weekend Boredom

pasja1000 / Pixabay

If you have a garden at the back of your house, autumn is a good time to do some important jobs. In the autumn there are several ways you can prepare your garden for winter such as pruning shrubs, cutting the grass one last time, and clearing out leaves and debris from your flowerbeds. Working in the garden has the added bonus of giving you some fresh air, and it can be a great way to spend a whole day during lockdown.

Clean up

Have you been cluttering up your home recently with online orders and random clothes? Now is a great time to clean up. If you are bored this weekend consider doing a full house clean from top to bottom, making sure that everything is spick and span. Some of the jobs you can do are:

  • Vacuum the house
  • Bleach the bathroom and kitchen
  • Clear out old bathroom products
  • Clear the pantry
  • Dust and polish
  • Clean the windows
  • Wash your bedding
  • Wash the carpet
  • Declutter

If you can do all of these jobs over the weekend your house will be clean and fresh and feeling great for the winter.

Do some DIY

There are a lot of small DIY jobs you can complete over a weekend that will freshen up your home and make a difference to the space. You could redo the gloss paint around the house, change your feature wall colour, fill in small holes in the walls, and even regrout the tiling. Any of these small DIY jobs will make an impact to your house and will make you feel happier at home.

Bake tasty treats

If you have some time at home this weekend and nowhere else to go, why not make the most of it and do some baking? We have a simple treat for you to try and bake this weekend:

Triple Chocolate Cookies

weekend boredomTriple chocolate? Yes please. These cookies are decadent and yummy and easy to make.

  • 180g flour
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 150g dark chocolate, chopped
  • 150g milk chocolate, chopped
  • 150g white chocolate, chopped
  • 150g butter
  • 175g caster sugar
  • 1 medium egg

  1. Preheat the oven to 190C.
  2. In a bowl, place dark chocolate. Heat up a pan with simmering water and place the bowl over the top, ensuring the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Melt the chocolate and leave to cool.
  3. In a bowl, cream together sugar and butter with an electric whisk. Once creamy, add egg and melted chocolate.
  4. Stir in your dry ingredients and mix into a batter. Stir in the chunks of milk and white chocolate.
  5. Use a spoon or scoop to take bits of dough and form into a circle. Place on a greased baking sheet and press down slightly. Bake for 12 minutes.
  6. When ready to eat, simply pop in the microwave for 10 seconds and you’re good to go!

Try a new hobby

If you are bored this weekend and looking for something new to take up your time, why not try a new hobby? There are lots of fun hobbies to try such as cooking, painting, sports and more. Try something new and see how amazing it makes you feel. Sometimes the best way to get out of a slump is to do something out of your comfort zone and this can be a super fun way to spend your day.

Why Is Surfing So Popular In 2019?

Why Is Surfing So Popular In 2019?? Surfing has been a sport for years now, but in 2019, it’s only set to get bigger. From big wave surfing taking the lead, to the growth of the female surfing market, the sport has proven itself to gain quite the substantial following over the past year. With women and mens summer wetsuits flying off the shelves already, we’re taking a look at why surfing has become so popular this year and why you should get involved.

why is surfing so popular in 2019

What Could We See This Year?

Trends are some of the most powerful things when it comes to sports, and in surfing, they can draw everyone to the waves, from rookies to experts. Three of the trends that we’re expected to see this year include ‘big wave’ surfing, environmental action and, of course, a rise in surfing-based holiday packages:

Big Wave Surfing

Big wave surfing has always been around, but it’s only in recent years that the average age of these surfers is getting younger. The Big Wave Tour has seen the likes of Russel Bierke, Natxo Gonzalez and Lucas Chumbo take to the waves, all of whom are under 23! Even veteran surfer Kai Lenny is only 26. For this reason, it’s clear to see that the younger generations are taking an interest in this kind of surfing, and rightly so.

Activism & Environmental Action

Speaking of the younger generations, they’re also turning their focus to environmental issues. It’s not just the younger generations, either – a lot more of the surfing community are beginning to stand up and fight for things they believe in, including everything from climate change, to pollution and environmental mistreatment.

Surf Holidays, With A Twist

Gone are the days of a simple surfing holiday – nowadays, you’re more likely to see packages that encompass everything from lessons with professionals and well-known experts to yoga retreats and escapes. Cooking lessons have also become pretty common within surfing holidays – seafood focused, of course – as have meditation, free diving and tours.

Why You Should Take Up Surfing This Year

If the trends aren’t enough to convince you to take to the waves, there are a number of reasons that more and more people are trying their hand at surfing, including a higher number of female surfers, easier and safer training and the Olympic buzz.

Celebrities Who Surf

There are a lot of celebrities who love to surf, especially women.  Some may surprise you.  Here are a couple of celebs that you might recognize.

Matthew McConaughey–remember Surfer, Dude?
Gisele Bundchen–one of the world’s highest earning super model
Adam Sandler–The funny successful actor who owns production company “Happy Madison Productions”.
Emma Stone — Beautiful actress and model
Kendall Jenner–While she hasn’t been spotted surfing, she definitely loves paddle boarding

There Are More Female Surfers

There are quite a few industries and sports that are male-dominated and, until recently, surfing was most definitely one of them. However, more and more women are beginning to enter the sport on both a casual and professional basis, all because females are getting more recognition. Women can now compete in their Big Wave surfing event, and the World Surf League have opted to open a Women’s Championship event.

Catching A Wave Is Easier

Granted, the physical action of catching a wave isn’t necessarily easier in any way, but producing waves, even in the off-seasons, is becoming a more manageable experience. Wave pools are opening across the world, offering more substantial training facilities and easy surf access for those who may not have access to perfect surf throughout the entire year.

It’s Now An Olympic-Recognized Sport

Surfing has officially become an Olympic sport! Announced by the Olympic Committee’s president, Thomas Bach, the hype around this new addition to the games is certain to open up the world’s eyes to the sport. We could see the popularity of surfing grow substantially over the coming year, inspiring a whole new generation of surfers.

The reasons for the popularity of surfing this year are plentiful, and while some might appeal to some people more than others, each holds its value for the surfing community. What do you think?

Nike: Just Do It, Conservatives: Just Burn It, Liberals: Just Be Fooled By It

I assume by now you have heard the controversy surrounding the newest Nike ad. Colin Kaepernick became the face of Nike and Americans found another reason to hate each other. While fervent liberals became inspired and ran out to purchase as much Nike as they could, racist conservatives threw a temper-tantrum and burned as much Nike as they could. Passions were flying, people were shouting, social media was exploding, shoes were burning, and sales were booming. All of this uproar, yet neither party actually did anything to help their cause.

If you haven’t seen the Nike commercial yet, definitely check it out! It’s heartfelt, inspirational, and passionate.

Just watching this commercial makes you feel a sort of adrenaline to stand up (or kneel) for what you believe in. Having Colin Kaepernick urging Americans to “believe in something, even if it means sacrificing everything” shows that Nike genuinely believes in the urgent changes that need to happen in America…or maybe they just want to make you think they do. Whether you’re heart fills with hope or disgust while watching this ad, buying or burning Nike does absolutely nothing except make the rich richer.

According to Edison Trends, online Nike sales have gone up by 31% and according to The Washington Post, Kaepernick’s 49ers jersey is among one of the best-selling in the league. What does this mean? For the conservatives posting videos of themselves online with fits of outrage, this means that burning your already-paid-for Nike sneakers has done nothing except give Nike free advertising. Put down the matches before you hurt yourself and turn off your cameras because everybody else is laughing all the way to the Nike stores. For the liberals feeling like their actually making a difference by purchasing Nike gear, this means that the only difference you made was an increase in Nike profit.

Why isn’t increasing Nike profit a good thing? After all, the company has shown their dedication to urgent progressive movements. Well, according to Open Secret, this is not even remotely true. Open Secret reveals that in 2018, Nike gave 78% of their political contributions (about $424,000) to the Republican Party, the same party that has a president in power trying to demonize football players for kneeling against racial injustice. When you break it down, big corporations like Nike survive on capitalism. They don’t really care about racial injustice; they pretend to care because it gets you to care about their products.

While I can sit here forever and talk about the doom and gloom of the Republican Party and capitalism, there is one silver lining that we can take from this. Nike knew that we would care about Colin Kaepernick and his stance. Sales boomed for them because people care. Conservatives made fools of themselves because they cannot stand to be in a world where someone like Colin Kaepernick is respected and where a majority of people care about social equality. This whole ordeal shows that we can and that we are making a difference. Our voices are powerful. We are certainly not going to make a difference by buying into a corporate lie, but we can make a difference in numbers and in passion.

RUMI X: Sustainable Activewear for the New Year

The New Year is upon us, so whip out your resolution notebooks and start making your list of goals for 2018. Aside from the obvious ‘new wardrobe’ and ‘be happy’ resolutions making the cut, kick off the year by adding ‘save the environment while working out in style.’

Eco-friendly band RUMI X has done it again with their latest high-performance fitness apparel. Their newest RUMI X CORE collection of Mirror Sports Bras are made using green technology and are delicately crafted from eight recycled plastic bottles to ensure ultimate comfort, breathability, and sweat absorption while you’re on the go.

Aside from saving the planet in an incredibly sustainable way, these flattering sports bras emphasize the female form while featuring a soft, stretchy finish and extremely bold graphic designs. The collection also includes high-waisted leggings, chic athletic shorts, tie-up tank tops, and supportive sports bras.

RUMI X’s founder and certified yoga instructor, Melissa Chu, founded the brand in 2015 after establishing a deep-rooted connection to fitness and wellness. Chu’s goal for the design of the brand is to take inspiration from the world and exemplify the 13th-century Persian poet with wise words for whom the brand is named after.

“RUMI X is about living a mindful lifestyle, taking care of yourself within, and being good to the world around you. We take care of our body, mind, and soul, and we take care of others around us to feel good,” Chu’s statement on the brand’s website reads.

Specifically with the CORE collection, every piece of athletic wear produced helps save PET bottles from ending up in landfills or in the ocean. RUMI X uses innovative and high-end green technology to create their collections from recycled materials such as water bottles and up-cycled coffee grounds.

The brand sets out to push the limits of performance with their fabrics while becoming eco-conscious citizens. They even use water-based ink dyes to infuse their fabrics with reusable and safe materials that could otherwise end up in landfills.

“Trash is a growing problem, so finding uses for non-biodegradable materials like plastic is a must,” Chu states on the RUMI X Feel Good website.

By transforming waste to wear, be prepared to feel good while you look amazing in their timelessly chic sportswear.
