Fall Tips to Follow From Fashion Designers

by

Fall is, questionably (in our eyes, undoubtedly), the most fashionable season of the year. Cooler weather brings layers, new textures, and rich colors out of hiding. Scarves reign supreme, leggings are now everyday wear, and peacoats make their seasonal debut. While some fall pieces stay trendy forever, autumn also brings fresh new designs to the runways—and into our closets. This year, it’s all about neutral tones, stripes, red, embroidery, and metallics. From streetwear to holiday soirees, designers Leanne Marshall, Dan Liu, and Laila Wazna have pieces for every occasion as the leaves start changing.

Neutral Tones
Neutrals have been in season for a while now and they’re here to stay. Textured tops and dresses in nude and cream are a trendy addition to any fall wardrobe. Leanne Marshall’s looks hit the sweet spot, where trendy meets elegant. Her floor-length gowns are neutral yet showstopping, proving even neutrals can turn heads.

Stripes
Large, colorful prints and unique patterns are the name of the game this year. Traditional stripes will always be in vogue on the streets of Paris, but Leanne Marshall has set the bar for the classic pattern a bit higher. Large, colorful stripes and bold new patterns are all the rage. Whether you prefer leggings or skirts, be sure to have at least a few striped pieces in your wardrobe this fall.

Red Hot
The color of love, red, is going to be a hot choice for this season. From traditional coats, jumpsuits, or dresses, you will need to have this iconic color in your closet. Red is the perfect way to add a huge pop of color to an otherwise neutral fall wardrobe. Red accessories or statement pieces will keep your look fresh and exciting.

Embroidery and Metallics
Holiday parties are for drinking eggnog and sharing the joy of the holidays with your favorite coworkers…right? We all know the real thrill of a holiday party is the excuse to find a killer outfit to show off to those favorite coworkers. Embroidery and metallics are where it’s at this year, and Laila Wazna has you covered. A master of the art of details, her looks are elegant enough for any holiday extravaganza.

The Perfect Striped Pieces for Summer

by

Hi, Dolls! Finally, our summer outing days are here! You can’t beat the feeling of the ocean breeze on a warm day, and what better way to dress for this season of sunny adventures than with the chic nautical look? Nautical stripes have a liveliness about them, regardless of being a simple combination of white, red, and/or blue that puts me in a good mood.

Halter crop tops are a must and the crochet top by Vika Gazinskaya is bold with its shades of bright red and royal blue. The white trim crop top accentuates the waist and is sure to give you that summer feeling. The high waisted, horizontal striped shorts from Forever 21 are a great staple piece to wear with a solid colored top. The relaxed fit shorts feature buttons along the front pockets and mock pockets in the back.
All Saints brought the cool factor with its casual tee by adding playful shoulder slits. The vintage wash of red is a nice change-up to the common boldness of colors. I also really like that the tee fits a tad bit longer than your average t-shirt. The high waisted striped trousers by Topshop are a relaxed fit and look fab with the simple color palette. Pair it will a crisp white tank top and espadrilles to complete the trendy resort outfit. I mean, come on, who doesn’t love the “I own a yacht” look? Last but not least, it’s not a nautical notion without anchors! Dogeared makes a simple anchor pendant necklace that symbolizes strength and the peacefulness of staying grounded.
Don’t go overboard with this trend (no pun intended). The combination of different stripes clashes, so it’s best to keep it simple with one striped piece, but do add a pop of red lipstick! There’s just the ocean breeze and cloudless sunny skies in our future. It’s smooth sailing from here on out, so let the adventure begin!
XOXO,
Tatiana

Mara Hoffman Fall 2015 Runway Show

by

The Mara Hoffman Fall 2015 Runway Show was by far my favorite this Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. Made up of 37 flowy and cozy pieces ranging from turtleneck blouses and dresses to culotte pants and over-sized sweaters, the models all showed signs of ease and comfort as they graced the runway. Sure enough, the pieces included Hoffman’s signature prints such as stripes, geometric shapes in various colors, including gold foil, and even a take on leopard print with black spots.
Not only were the clothes incredible, the music and vibe of the entire experience was tranquil. She incorporated English indie rock band Alt-J’s “Tessellate” into her show with David Bowie’s “Space Oddity” for the finale, and it was completely perfect! My soul smiled to the sight of brilliant clothing and to the sound of brilliant music. The sweetest part of the show was when the designer’s son Joaquin handed his mother a flower.

Even though my personal style is a little dark, I want everything from Hoffman’s Collection. Most of the garments were neutral shades of white and taupe; quite angelic and soft, but to make it more my own, I’d pair the feminine dresses with black combat boots and dark lipstick.
