Do blue light glasses actually work or are they all hype?

While blue light glasses may be the perfect Zoom essential, there’s been some question on whether or not they actually work. Some say they’re just for show, some say they’re for people who don’t really need glasses but want to wear them to look smart (guilty). But what really sparked my interest in the hype for blue light glasses was when I learned what blue light actually was. Turns out, it’s not so good for you. And after looking at my weekly screen time, I figured investing in a pair or two wouldn’t be such a bad idea.

As somebody who spends over five hours a day staring at a screen, I noticed my eyes felt heavier, my headaches were becoming unbearable, and when I started to drift off in the middle of my favorite Netflix series, I knew something was wrong. Naturally, I went straight to Amazon and ordered a pair that resonated with me most, the tortoise cat-eye shape and style of course, and within those two days of prime shipping, I was researching the benefits. Here’s what I found:

What is blue light?

According to Blutech, blue light is a high energy light vision that can be seen by the human eye. Turns out, it’s not just on your smartphone. Blue light is everywhere, even in the sky!

Should I be concerned about blue light?

Blutech says, “blue light flickers easier and longer than other types of weaker wavelengths. This flickering casts a glare that reduces your visual contrast, affecting clarity and sharpness. This can cause eye strain, physical and mental fatigue and headaches if you use your electronic devices or sit in front of a computer all day.”

What symptoms prove I should probably wear blue light glasses?

The American Optometric Association says the most common symptoms of digital eye strain (also known as computer vision syndrome) are eye strain, headaches, blurred vision, dry eyes and neck and shoulder pain. Yikes– I have all those!

What are the benefits of wearing blue light glasses?

For Eyes says the top three benefits of wearing blue light glasses are that they relieve eye discomfort, you get a better night’s rest, and they can help reduce your risk of blindness. In other words, blue light glasses can’t hurt.

What are the best brands?

Blue light glasses can range anywhere form $15 – $100. Who’s to say what brand is best? But if you’re still a little skeptical, I would advise you first try out a pair from a small-brand on Amazon, then work your way up to a more expensive pair if you feel they are a great addition to your work from home routine. Here’s the under $20 duo pair I started off with and they’re still a fan favorite.

Which Y2K Trends Should Make A Comeback?

The 2000s are on their way back with a vengeance, and with all the nostalgia for reality shows, movies, and other kinds of media, 2000s fashion is on its way back too. Trucker hats, camo print, bootcut jeans, and thanks to Vetements, even Juicy Couture’s iconic velour tracksuits have made a comeback! It was a time where Paris Hilton was the biggest celebrity of the time, Britney Spears’s Oops I Did it Again was blasting on radios everywhere, and Avril With all of these trends coming back,  the wonderful glow of nostalgia may cloud up the realization that some trends should be left in the past, and there were so many things going on during Y2K, that it can be hard to remember what things happened during that time! So we made a list of four of our favorite trends from the 2000s that should make a comeback!

Silvery, space-age metallics should definitely be one of the first things that should be revived! Sure this trend started in the late 90s, but it hit its peak in the 2000s! The 2000s looked to be the start of the future for many, so sleek, shiny metallic fabrics were all the rage. We’re all for this trend to show itself again. We live in a world where the technological future past generations dreamed of is slowly becoming the present, so why not add to the space-age flair with some fun metallic statement pieces!

Barbie pink was one of the biggest colors in the 2000s, characters like The Plastics from Mean Girls wore pink with pride! Prime time to be your most femme self was the 2000s, and we believe that all around girly-ness should make a comeback. Because, after all, being called “feminine” isn’t always such a bad thing! Pink is a power color, and we say, the brighter the better! Sure Millennial pink had its time in the sun, but we think that we’re ready for a brighter pop of color! If you aren’t the kind of person to go full on Elle Woods with your style, a bright pink is a fun pop of color for any outfit to add a bit of a femininity to anything.

Camo print is more of a tomboy staple, but as we said above, the 2000s was the age of the classic girly girl, so there was no way classic camouflage print wasn’t jazzed up in flashier colors along with the classic green color. Destiny’s Child truly gave us multiple amazing camo looks, and we think that may be challenging that vibe might give you a really fun look! We think that the classic army green, as well as all of the other colors, are destined to come back swinging!

Buffalo Sneakers made such a statement! These chunky sneakers won our hearts back in Y2K, and are slowly coming back in style. These sneakers are perfect for those who love a statement shoe, and a bit of extra height, but heels aren’t their forte. We think that a pair of these sneakers would look great with a cute oversized sweatshirt, and a cute pair of high socks.

There are so many early 2000s trends, some of them cute and fun, some of them downright absurd, but we think that the best trends aren’t ones that need to be worn in the exact same way as they were back when they first came on our radar but can be re-invented in new and different ways!

Want Cool Summer Style? Be Ultra-Trendy with the Best Jumpsuit Styles of 2018

Do you remember how crazy everyone was going over rompers when they came back in style a couple of summers ago? If you loved that trend, good news, rompers are still in for summer 2018! But if you want something a bit more daring, with a classy twist, why don’t you try out a full-length jumpsuit? The jumpsuits out there right now range from just about every style you could dream of pulling off! Sporty, classic, chic, bohemian, edgy—you name it, there is a jumpsuit for the vibe you want to exude. Here are some of the best jumpsuit styles of 2018.

Look Put Together with Little Effort

Jumpsuits are pretty much a savior when you aren’t sure what to wear because it’s a one-stop shop. All you have to do is pick a jumpsuit that’s flattering, pair with some matching heels or sandals, accessorize if you’d like, and you’re good to go.

Bella Hadid Pulling Off a Denim Show-Stopper

This is simply one of my favorite looks as far as this fashion-forward trend goes. Model Bella Hadid is pictured below in a 70s inspired denim jumpsuit with large front pockets and a flared leg. If this isn’t effortlessly sexy, then I don’t know what is!

Want Something More Bohemian? Find a Jumpsuit that Fits Your Free Spirit

There are so many amazing options available right now. If you’re looking for something a little more high-end, Free People has a great selection of various styles.
Try something like this Boho Dream:

Or if you’re on a stricter budget, fashion retailers like Tobi, Forever 21, H&M, and many others offer a wide variety of affordable options.

Go for a Black Ensemble for a Classy or Daring Look

Although it’s time for big patterns, florals, and fun colors, if you’re going out for a summer event a black jumpsuit is a must.

Glitter Products to Embrace This Holiday Season

You deck the halls with lights that twinkle, light fires that burn shimmering embers, fill glasses with dazzling champagne, and only play with sparkles on the eve of a new year. But who’s to say the magic of all that glitters ends there? Leave behind the notion that you can only rock glitter on the most special of days, and instead, indulge in your inner child by getting your hands a little sparkly. You don’t have to douse yourself in a vat of costume glitter to celebrate this trend because the wonderful world of cosmetics has made it possible for you to join in on the fun without the mess.

Glitter & Glow
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to step into a room and make everyone stop and stare? With Stila’s Glitter & Glow Liquid Eyeshadow, you’re bound to make a statement that has everyone admiring the way your eyes shimmer. The shadow, a vibrant mix of glitter and pearl, applies like liquid and once set in place, it dries down to a powder that promises to hold onto its glimmer all night long.

Glitter All Day
Do you know what liquid gold looks like? It’s mesmerizingly lustrous, a swirling pool of shimmer, and thanks to Jouer, you can glide that gold over your lips and let the gloss do the talking. Their Long-Wear Lip Topper can be worn over your favorite lip color or stand alone as an iridescent statement. Formulated with coconut oil, jojoba oil, and vitamin-E, it’s guaranteed to hydrate your lips and thanks to their long-wear formula, it won’t budge all night. One glance at this hypnotic lip topper and you’ll never be able to look away.

Unicorn Glitter
Unicorns are real and I have proof: Unicorn Snot. Though the brand name comes with a guaranteed giggle, it supplies a much-needed dose of happiness. Unicorn Snot prides itself on its range of glittery goodness from lip glosses to multi-purpose gels. If you’re willing to take a leap, fall right in love with glitter-roots: apply Unicorn Snot Glitter Gel to the roots of your hair and style accordingly (space buns are my personal favorite, but braids or a center-part work, too). Take it a step further by using this lightweight gel as a funky highlighter atop your cheekbones or collarbones. Once it’s set, it’ll stay put while you dazzle the world, and with a quick rinse, it’ll wash right out.

Glitter Pop
If you want to hop on the trend, but don’t want to commit to something as bold, Too Faced has just what you’re looking for. The thin brush-tip applies their Glitter POP! Eyeliner evenly and the glitter intensifies with each swipe, making for a statement that can be amplified to your liking. The best part? You don’t have to fuss with makeup remover for clean up. Once it’s dry, it peels off just like a strip of tape. Lift at the edge, carefully pull it up, and you’ve avoided any potential messy cleanup. I told you glitter is magical.

Fresh, New Ways to Rock Plaid This Season

If you’re anything like me, when you think plaid, you immediately think Gossip Girl. Images of Serena and Blair galavanting around the Big Apple in short plaid skirts and headbands plague your mind, and you can’t seem to shake that stigma. You would never go out in plaid for fear of coming across as a Waldorf wanna-be. Toss that stereotype behind you because plaid is in this season, and even Calvin Klein and Alexander Wang agree.

I have always been a plaid-vocate (yes, cheap pun intended). Each year as the air turns crisp and pumpkin-spiced everything starts to resurface, the first thing I break out of my fall wardrobe is an oversized plaid scarf that may be a few years past its prime. To me, there is no fall staple more classic than a plaid scarf. Always trendy, the plaid scarf is the simplest way to elevate nearly any outfit. All the heart eyes for the plaid scarf, ya’ll.

Showing up in fashion weeks all over the world, plaid has made an appearance on blazers, pants, and dresses. As the fashion world continues to throw it back to the ‘60s and ‘70s, it only makes sense that plaid has reappeared as the “it” fall pattern. But the print doesn’t have to bring back haunting memories of your horrific school uniform. By selecting unexpected pieces and pairing them with more neutral layers, you can rock plaid in an elegant way.

Try out something a little more adventurous than your go-to flannel, like this modern, sheer button down. And yes, you can wear white past labor day.

While joggers may be your loungewear pick of choice, they aren’t exactly office appropriate. But this bold, plaid, jogger-style pant is stylish enough for any working gal. Just add pumps!

Is there anything that screams pumpkin carving season more than a plaid bag? We think not. With this preppy accessory, you can add a punch to any outfit without drowning in the bold print.

Our Favorite Summer Makeup Trends

We all know how quickly trends come and go, but beauty trends tend to be a bit more long-lasting than others. From brows to braids, summer 2017 has trends that everyone will love and can totally play around with. These are some of the beauty looks you can rock this season to take your salty-haired, sun-kissed style to the next level.

Brows, Baby!
Obviously, 2017 has been the year of the bushy brow, and there’s no better time than now to follow in Brooke Shields’ footsteps and beef up your brows. An au-naturale look is classic summer, and filled-in eyebrows polish up your look and enhance your natural beauty. My favorite brow-boosting beauty product? The Glossier Boy Brow. It comes in a range of colors, so you can find the perfect one to match your brow color. It adds an effortless-looking, polished finish to your look. The best part? It’s insanely easy to use; not even I could mess up my brows with this bad boy in my arsenal!

4 Things We Can All Learn From Gwyneth Paltrow @ Goop

If you’re like me, you basically only know Gwyneth Paltrow as Margot Tenenbaum and can hardly name another movie she’s in (save for checking her IMDB, which I just did). If you were born after the late ’90s, though, there’s a decent chance you only know Paltrow because of her self-proclaimed status as a modern health guru and lifestyle aficionado. I spent a lot of time being irritated that Margot Tenenbaum, my favorite chain smoking idol, had become a “lifestyle influencer” toting $125,000 dumbbells and $1,000 toilet paper because how could that not be infuriating? The dark, lethargic Wes Anderson character that I’d known and adored for so long had become now the poster child for clean eating and vaginal steaming.

Despite my instincts telling me that I entered the abyss when I started reading Goop (skipping the gift lists because come on, Gwyneth, I’m not buying a $3,000 leather bike!), and as someone who is obsessed with the bizarre world of beauty trends and all-natural self care, Goop has become a guide I reluctantly adore. Click through for four things Goop has taught me that you need to learn, too.

Trends to Take From the Runway to Everyday

Now that New York Fashion Week is over, we’re having major post-show feels. The show was one for the books—from athleisure to formal wear, there wasn’t a single moment where our eyes weren’t glued to the beautiful models strutting the trendiest looks across the runway. Our fashion editors were in the front row, snapping pictures of clothes and accessories that are to die for. Fashion designers like Oscar de la Renta, Rag & Bone, and Vivienne Tam blessed the runway this year, giving us major inspiration to upgrade our wardrobes.

Pantone’s Color of the Year has not only made a beauty statement, but a fashion statement as well by releasing ten different spring colors to incorporate and inspire designers and their clothing. The Executive Director of Pantone’s Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, told the editors at WWD.com, “Obviously, that’s a really important part of where the fashion industry is headed. You have to look at things and ask if people would say, ‘I love that color. I want it now.’ For us, it also plays into that whole idea of transitional seasons and offering options that are not just typical of seasons.”
“It seems to me that exponentially it just gets better and better, because there is just so much originality and freedom in the use of color, particularly in the use of combinations,” Eiseman continued. “It’s fun for us to see the extremes, too—from the silly to the sublime. And silly in a good way because it can also be inventive, creative, and eye-catching. You look at all the gorgeous dresses, gowns, and fabrics and that’s all lovely. But when there’s whimsy as well that puts a smile on your face, that’s what fashion is all about.”
With so many different options, it was hard to not be inspired and make a fashion statement this season. Here are some of our favorite beauty looks straight from the runway that you can wear every day.

Bra Tops

Seen at Michael Kors Spring 2017
Stay on trend this season with bra tops; they’re all the rage.

Seen at Bottega Veneta Spring 2017
Classy, chic, and comfortable all in one. Find a pair of slacks and cut off the bottoms to make a rough hem. Top with a leather jacket and bra top for a cool, edgy look.

What NYFW Means For Spring and Summer Trends

We all know that New York Fashion Week is the ultimate preview for what will be in for the upcoming seasons, but sometimes it can be hard to decipher what NYFW actually means for spring/summer trends. Who has the time to sift through all of the different shows and pick out what will actually become a trend, and what will stay behind at the event? We do, of course. We have put together an easy guide for what you should be wearing come warmer months.

Forever 21 Pinstripe Chambray Shirt, $10, forever21.com

Pinstripes have already made their debut as a chic addition to any outfit for fall, but come spring, they are going to hit it big. This ultra flattering pattern can be worn as a neutral piece, and therefore can go with anything. Designers Claudi Li and Adam Selman, among others, showcased this trend in their shows and we are sure to see more of it soon.

MLM Collared Surplice Dress, $76.99, forever21.com

White on White

Again, we have seen all-white-everything looks from a few trendsetters, but this chic style will hit the mainstream market in the next few months. From matching sets, to white jeans paired with a crisp white blouse, the white craze will pop up in unique ways.

Ribbed Knit Cropped Cami, $13.99, forever21.com

Hot Pink

Finally the day has come where we all get to embrace our inner Elle Woods, because hot pink is HOT. The gloriously girly color was all over NYFW and we cannot wait until it heats back up and we get to step out in this bright color.
Between Kendall and Kylie Jenner taking the runway by storm, Tom Ford returning to the New York fashion scene after a six year hiatus, and the introduction of “See Now, Buy Now” runway clothes, this fashion week was one for the books. We can’t wait for the next fashion week and to see these trends spring to life, comewell, spring.
