Redefining Classic Hair Styles with TRESemmé

by

The inspiration behind Marissa Webb’s Spring/Summer 2017 Collection was counterbalance. While incorporating edge and intricate design, Webb also made it so that even you can pull off anything with ease. TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu came up with two gorgeous, impressionable, yet easy-to-do hairstyles after being inspired by Webb’s collection. Follow Syfu’s step-by-step instructions to recreate this season’s trendiest styles on your own!

Hair Trends Straight From NYFW

by

It feels like only yesterday when I was rushing from fashion show to fashion show during New York Fashion Week with Editor-in-Chief of Cliché, Megan. That was last year, though, and here we are again; another season of NYFW having come and gone, one that was filled with endless celebrity sightings, head-turning streetwear, awe-inspiring collections, and models that have you crushin’ non-stop. The addictive feeling created by NYFW is one like no other; it’s a time that makes many people just wanna pick up and move there. And we don’t blame ya! Being engulfed by fashion and inspiration around every corner is something we all would love to have year-round. For a lot of us, though, NYFW may be something we are still drooling over from our computer screens. Luckily, Cliché is always here to share with you what we witnessed during this iconic time that sometimes feels like a split second.

Believe it or not, at NYFW fashion isn’t the only part we’re there for. We’re there for everything: the one-of-a-kind characters, eclectic outfits, and must-try (even if it takes us a few attempts) beauty looks. Thankfully, we have such dear friends who are happy to share with us how we can nail the hair trends that’ll be poppin’ this season. From behind the scenes of these magical productions to your fingertips, check out how you can master Fall’s soon-to-be hair trends from NYFW. We’re casting a spotlight on our favorite hair trends from this season with Alice + Olivia, Naeem Khan, Kate Spade, and Rebecca Minkoff. Read how to style down below!

Alice + Olivia

Alice + Olivia stole our hearts with its fanciful and enchanting Spring/Summer 2017 collection. The inspiration for Stacey Bendet in this season’s collection spurred from mystic gardens and 18th century tarot gardens. According to Stacey, “The collection is about the power of positivity and even though life sends us so many messages, it is all about how we interpret them – that is the beauty of the tarot card: it is totally interpretive.” TRESemmé sought to create stunning and unique hair looks that would pair perfectly with each whimsical outfit. Check out how Jeanie Syfu, hairstylist of TRESemme, styled each model’s hair into a fairy-like + city girl braided look that you’ll want to create right away.

  1. Prep damp hair with a generous amount of TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creation Sea Foam through roots and lengths, and brush through for fluffy texture.
  2. Create a center part down to the nape of the neck and use a 1¼” curling iron to make loose waves along the part for texture and volume. Lightly tease the surface of the roots to give added lift.
  3. Starting below the ears, create a fishtail braid along both sides of the head and fasten with elastics.
  4. Add additional elastics through mid-lengths of both braids to create more shape; wrap hair around all elastics.
  5. Using fingers, gently dishevel braids while pulling a few pieces out for an undone, wispy texture. Finish the look by lightly spraying TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Brushable Hold Hairspray all over for touchable hold that lasts.

Styling Products Used:

  • TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Wave Creation Sea Foam
  • TRESemmé Perfectly (un)Done Brushable Hold Hairspray

Tools: Blow dryer, tail comb, elastics, bobby pins, clips, 1 1/4” curling iron.

Hair Trend: Don’t Cut the Front

by

Falling prey to the mundane takes a toll on your creative vibes and confidence, not to mention your hair. Think about the times you’ve fallen in love with your latest haircut. Didn’t it motivate you to take extra time and care to style your hair? We’re encouraging you as well as ourselves to stop dreaming of that day you sit in your hairstylist’s chair and tell them to “have at it!” (Just kidding!) We have an even better idea. Look no further than the talented TRESemmé Celebrity Brand Ambassador Chrissy Teigen, who recently showed off the latest spin on the lob, and the most slay-worthy hairstyle of this summer that can totally carry into fall! Think different, think effortless, think rebel: don’t cut the front.

For those of you who are interested in trying out this spectacular look, first have a chat with your go-to hairstylist, as you’re going to want someone who knows how to take into consideration your natural hair texture. This way, you can feel your best whether you decide to style your hair or leave it up to the hair gods. TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu gave us some tips of her own!

“Begin by washing hair using the TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Pre-Wash Conditioner and Shampoo to set the foundation for a voluminous look,” Syfu says.
“Apply TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Touchable Bounce Mousse to towel-dried hair and blow dry upside down, using fingers to shake and pull at the roots.”
Syfu continues, “When dry, wrap hair once or twice around a large barrel curling iron, leaving ends out to create natural movement. Let sections cool, then gently brush through to soften the waves.”
“Set the style by working TRESemmé Beauty-Full Volume Hairspray through lengths with fingers for a soft, touchable hold that lasts.”

Backstage Beauty Tips From Hervé Léger Spring 2016

by

Fashion brand Hervé Léger premiered their Spring 2016 collection this past weekend at New York Fashion Week, but we are even more obsessed with the hair and makeup as we are with the clothes. While backstage, we learned some serious tips and tricks from the professionals and partners at TRESemmé and ZOYA, from how to create the perfect braided crown ponytail to getting a clean, polished manicure.

“It’s the 30th anniversary of Hervé Léger so we’re embracing a new direction with a more organic quality in our handwork and elements of nature incorporated into the collection,” said Hervé Léger Chief Creative Officer Lubov Azria. “We wanted to collaborate with Orlando [Pita] on a softer braid and really play with texture more than we have before.”
“It’s a new, softer look for our Hervé Léger girl this season,” explained Orlando Pita, New York Fashion Week Ambassador for TRESemmé. “She’s still creating a strong statement with the braid, but we’ve played with making this more relaxed with purposely pulled out with loose pieces that frame her face and create beautiful movement when she walks.”
Below, Orlando Pita gives us some tips on how to recreate this beautiful look!

How to Rock Your Curls This Summer

by

Among the many endearing nicknames given to us by our friends, family, or ourselves, our curls have been called lion manes, mermaid waves, frizzy fros, and jungle hair. When it comes down to it though, they are simply our curls that we love in their natural state. However, our curls can have a mind of their own, which goes perfectly with how much life they appear to have (on the really good hair days, of course). They can be magnets to humidity during the summer season, which of course equals frizz, the total enemy when it comes to wanting our curls to look and feel just right. Thankfully, there are summer hair care products discovered and tested, by yours truly, that will keep your curls bouncy, frizz-free, and feeling like Sasha Fierce all throughout the season! Grab your favorite pen and notebook to take down these must-have notes on how to rock your curls this summer. Say goodbye to any bad hair day, and hello to the good days with these fun and easy-to-use curlycue essentials.
Over my summer days spent outside basking in the warmth or relaxing on the beach, I’ve come by hair brands that are holy grails in my book. OGX is one such brand that I have been using for years on my curls with no complaints or worries. OGX is all about elevating and helping your natural hair shine in all its glory. It’s made with ingredients that nourish your hair, so there is no going wrong when choosing one of their glorious hair products.

OGX Coconut

(OGX Nourishing Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum $7.99, Ulta.com)

OGX Nourishing Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage
Serum has been my all-time favorite ever since my days in elementary school. When it comes to curls, handling them with care is a must, especially when combing because breakage can happen often since hair cuticles face different directions. To help strengthen my curls, stop any hair breakage, and keep frizz at bay, I add a dime-size of this product everyday to my ends. It’s the answer to keeping your curls intact and shining without having to worry about too many strands falling out throughout the day. If you’re also a lover of coconut scents, then you’re sure to love this product even more; it’s coconut heaven for your curls and will easily fit into any hair care routine.

OGX Moroccan

(OGX Moroccan Sea Salt Spray $7.99, Ulta.com)

OGX Moroccan Sea Salt Spray is ready to be tossed into any tote for a day spent at the beach. I especially love spritzing this into my curls when I’m basking in the sun to protect them from the heat.Another option you can use to protect your hair from the sun’s rays are any hair care products you may have that are heat protectors; they do the same job just as well! This product not only helps protect your curls, but gives them some more life that the beach atmosphere can easily take away. Saltwater can dry out our curls super quickly, but with a couple of spritz of this you can help hydrate them easily. Personally, I always make sure to pack a bottle of this and a comb into my beach tote before heading off. After I’m done enjoying a dip in the ocean I shake out my curls, working through them softly with my fingers first to get rid of any tangles. Then I spritz some OGX Moroccan Sea Salt Spray in and comb through my curls until everything is tangle-free. All you have to do after that is scrunch your curls a bit for shape and let them air dry. You’ll have mermaid curls in no time!

LOREAL Evercurl

(L’ORÉAL Evercurl Hydracharge Leave-In Cream $8.99, Ulta.com)

During the week for an everyday look I am obsessed with using the L’ORÉAL Evercurl Hydracharge Leave-In Cream. On hair washing days (curls shouldn’t be washed everyday, but rather every two or three days) after I comb out my tangles, I add a small amount of this product, scrunch it throughout my curls, and let them air dry. In no time, your curls will begin to shape beautifully and be more defined than normally. This product truly works wonders and leaves your curls feeling bouncy with natural shine. It’s a quick way to create your curls perfectly too when you’re on the go. Just scrunch and let air dry — the magic will happen all on its own.
TRESEMME hairspray

(TRESEMME Climate Control Climate Protection Finishing Spray $4.99, Ulta.com)

Now, I know hairspray can be a hit or miss when it comes to curls — some make them frizzy, other make them hard, but TRESemmé has never let me down when it comes down to it. The TRESemmé Climate Control Climate Protection Finishing Spray keeps curls frizz-free, intact, and protected from any climate worries. I’ve sprayed this throughout my curls even on rainy days, and they’ve remained fresh and moisturized even against the humidity. Talk about a game changer!
Hair Ties

(Simbi Graphic Print Hair Ties $24, www.shop.nordstrom.com)

On days when the heat is just too much, I opt for hair accessories to save the day. Work that up-do, girl! I find fabric hairbands to be the most delicate for curls unlike rubber bands that can snag easily and deconstruct them. Hairbands with fabric textures are much softer on curls, allowing them to still keep their bounce if you let them be free. The best part is that they don’t get lost in our manes either and come in a variety of designs to rock as well. You can accessorize these even more if you tie your curls up into a top bun or ponytail and pair it with a head wrap. Head wraps slick back any frizz, bumps, or fly-aways, making it look like you spent a lot longer on your up-do than you really did. Curlycue trick? I think so!

This year’s collection was an epitome of Patti Smith’s memoir “Just Kids” — showcasing bohemian inspiration from New York from the late 60s to early 70s. Elements of the rock n’ roll epic era are seen within being inspired from Smith’s own personal style and other idols including Grace Slick, Jimi Hendrix, and Janis Joplin. Mix and matched prints, velvet, stud and fringe details, leather jackets and pants, chiffon dresses and more create a beautiful collection that all of us have to admit we want in our wardrobes.

Banana Republic Summer 2015 Hair

by

When newly appointed Creative Director Marissa Webb debuted the edgy Banana Republic Summer 2015 collection earlier this month, she didn’t just debut stylish new clothes, but ultra chic hair styles to boot. The mastermind behind the looks, TRESemmé Stylist Jeanie Syfu, styled the models’ hair in trendy twists and loose waves, giving a modern twist to a classic. Below, Syfu gives us tips on how to recreate the styles on your own.
TRESemme at Banana Republic '15 Presentation
Double Twist:

  1. Apply TRESemmé Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse on damp hair and rough-dry ends for volume and texture. Finish blow-dry by using a round brush to smooth the texture at the hairline.
  2. Curl hair vertically, using a 1-inch curling iron, to create loose waves. Once curled, brush back the hair to create texture and lightly spray TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray.
  3. Gather hair at the hairline and split into two sections. Begin twisting hair at the crown, working your way to the nape of the neck and secure with bobby pins, leaving the lengths of the hair loose. Repeat twist with the remaining hair.
  4. Gently pull loose hair around the hairline to frame the face and finish by spraying TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo to mattify the texture.

Loose Waves:

  1. Prep damp hair with TRESemmé Thermal Creations Volumizing Mousse and dry using the diffuser attachment on the blow-dryer.
  2. Create a deep side part and liberally curl hair, using a 1-inch curling iron, to create a tousled wave.
  3. Mist look with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray for a light hold and tuck hair behind both ears, leaving piecey strands in front.
  4. Mattify look with TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo.

Braided Pompadour
TRESemme at Marissa Webb - Runway - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 20151) Apply TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Mousse on damp hair and rough-dry ends for volume and texture. Finish blow-dry using a round brush to create fullness through the top of the head and the hairline.
2) Using the end of your comb, section off the center portion of the hair three-fourths of the way down and clip up.
3) Create a Dutch braid (in side out or reverse French braid) on both sides of the head using the loose hair, beginning at the temple and working your way to the nape of the neck. Braid the remaining lengths, leaving ends out, and fasten with a clear elastic.
4) Mist top section of hair with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Hair Spray and lightly brush along the part.
5) Begin French braid, leaving additional volume at the front and base. Gather hair along the part, working 90 degrees from the head, and finish braiding lengths of the hair leaving ends out. Fasten with clear elastic.

7) Brush the completed French braid upward creating a wind blown effect and spray with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Hair Spray.

Five-Strand Braid
TRESemme at Marissa Webb - Runway - Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Spring 20151) Prep damp hair with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Mousse and rough-dry the lengths with fingers for texture and lift. Finish blow-dry with a round brush at the hairline for a soft, airy perimeter of wisps.
2) Once hair is dry, create a deep side part on the right side of the head, then back-brush hair for extra volume and spray lightly with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Hair Spray.
3) Divide hair into five equal strands at the nape of the neck and begin weaving the farthest right section over and under each part, working your way to the left.
4) Take the furthest left section of hair and weave over and under each part, working your way to the right.
5) Repeat steps four and five until braid is complete, leaving ends loose and fasten with a clear elastic.
6) Loosen braid by gently pulling apart and leave airy wisps to frame the face. Mist finished look with TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Hair Spray.

TRESemmé’s new hair collections

by

Just when we thought we couldn’t love TRESemmé more than we already do, the professional, affordable brand released two new collections for optimum hair care: the Renewal Hair & Scalp line (complete with shampoo, conditioner, leave-in conditioner spray, and a scalp nourishing conditioning mask) and the 7 Day Keratin Smooth line (complete with shampoo, conditioner, and heat-activated treatment). Several washes and styles later, we have a full report about these new salon-gorgeous products.
renewandscalpFirst, the Renewal Hair & Scalp line. Designed specifically to promote healthier hair, this formula works right at the source of your hair’s foundation: your scalp. Active ingredients such as ginseng, tea tree oil, and sunflower seed oil target surface signs of damage and work to moisturize the scalp while leaving your hair soft and manageable. After shampooing and conditioning, top off your look with a few spritzes of the lightweight leave-in conditioner spray. Our recommendation? Apply the deep conditioning mask once a week (or more frequently, if you need the rescue) for extra softness and strength.

TR_7DKS RangeIs smooth, frizz-free hair what you crave? Then the 7 Day Keratin Smooth line is just right for you! Designed to work best with the heat from a flat iron using revolutionary Thermal Technology, the line promotes smoothness and humidity resistance without the damaging effects of permanent chemical treatments. The best part of all this? This lower-sulfate formula delivers long-lasting effects and maintains hair’s smoothness for up to seven days (or three washes). Start by first washing and conditioning hair, then separating wet hair into 3-6 sections (depending on how short, long, or thick your hair is). Then rub two pumps of the heat-activated treatment in your hands before distributing and combing through each section. Next, blow dry hair completely and activate the Thermal Technology with a flat iron over each section. Styled as desired.
Fashion and beauty bloggers everywhere have taken the 7 Day Keratin Smooth challenge, just like Amber Fillerup Clark of Barefoot Blonde (pictured above). To join in on the fun and to see more looks, search the #Glam7DaySmooth tag on Instagram!
Now it’s your turn to renew and protect with TRESemmé! All products are available at food, drug, and mass market stores nationwide, or you can browse tresemme.com for styles tips, tutorials, and news.
