Must Have Handbags

Hey, Dolls!

Out of all the different types of accessories, handbags are my absolute favorite. I’m very picky when it comes to purses and only purchase one if I’m totally head over heels about it. Once I start second guessing the bag, I don’t buy it. When buying a bag, I make sure it has a complete zipper closure, or at least has a section with a zipper. I’ve had my share of bad luck with purses without zippers that resulted in lost phones and makeup.
NYC brand Henri Bendel carries fabulous backpacks that can be monogrammed. I’ve always been a fan of backpacks and first noticed the chic Bendel while walking behind a woman in Port Authority. Reading the etched “Henri Bendel,” I quickly researched their website and found my next purchase. The backpack comes with adjustable straps and can even be worn as a tote or crossbody.
I usually go for black colored bags since they look more classic and expensive, but the tote by ASOS is chic in gray. At first glance, the bag looks simple, but the croc print adds a little spice and attitude. Urban Outfitters also always has practical and affordable trendy handbags in stock. I really like the vegan brown tote by Silence + Noise. It has a clean vintage appearance and features a removable shoulder strap, making it a convenient everyday bag.
Last but not least, I’m obsessed with my Saint Laurent chain wallet bag; it’s definitely a piece I will always treasure. I love the sturdy construction of the flap and how elegant the gold chain looks. The bag’s main closure is a button, but I store my phone in the inside zipper to avoid any mishaps. Every gal needs a perfect gold chained bag, and mine is Yves!

How to Wear Your Favorite Summer Trends into the Fall

Can you believe it’s already fall? 2015 is seriously flying by so fast that soon enough, we’ll all be worrying about what to wear when the ball drops on New Year’s Eve. Before we plan ahead, how about we discuss something that needs to be addressed: How in the world do we continue to wear our favorite summer trends in the fall? We’ve seen LOTS of trends popping up all over the place this summer, from bold white, off-the-shoulder tops to chunky heels, and much more. Now let us help you to continue rocking those items you dished your money on so you can keep the spirit alive! See below for our tips on how to wear your favorite summer trends into the fall.

Glamorous Drew Off-the-Shoulder Top, $42, nastygal.com

Off-The-Shoulder Tops
The summer heat may have given us weird tan lines if you were a fan of those off-the-shoulder tops, but once the fall comes, you won’t have to worry about that anymore. So how do you wear an off-the-shoulder top without looking like you just came back from the beach? Simple. Pair your tops with some long-length pants. In my personal opinion, I would opt out of the boho, wide-legged pants unless you’re going for the Coachella/bohemian vibe. Then by all means, go for it!

NIRVANA Chunky Sandals, $95, topshop.com

Chunky Platform Shoes
Your feet need loving, too. Platforms made its way back into our closets just when we thought we were done with them after their appearance back in the late ‘90s! So, you can’t pair them with your favorite daisy dukes or dress… but you know what goes best with them? Frilly socks. We’re talking about the ones that your mom used to make you wear when you were younger. Fan of the platform cut-out heels, perhaps? Bust out those stockings. They’ll cover your toes, plus make your shoes really pop.

ASOS Denim A-Line Mini Skirt With High Low Hem In Bitter Chocolate, $50.16, ASOS.com

Denim Button Up Skirts
Denim skirts made a huge comeback this summer, but it’s not the mini-skirts circa early 2000s. No—we’re talking about the ones that look really similar to the ones from the 1970s, and that’s why we’re obsessed. (I mean, come on. Fashion has a way of bringing back past looks!) Still attached to your skirt, but it’s a tad bit too cold for bare legs? This is a perfect example of where your tights come in. Better yet, you can rock tights in literally any color, and it’ll go with this skirt.
white out

Suit Up Tuxedo Romper in White, $78, nastygal.com

White Out
Forget what you hear about how you can’t wear white after Labor Day. Do whatever you want! You don’t need to listen to some fashion myth. White was seen everywhere, and you can easily slip this into your fall wardrobe this year. Without going into white overload every single time, pair your favorite white piece with a contrasting color to make it really pop.

Kimchi Blue Serena Applique Bra, $39, urbanoutfitters.com

Delicate Lingerie
Rather than wearing their night slips for, well, the night, fashionistas have brought these looks outside the house. With the fact that colder temperatures are sure to make their way in, the only way to rock this thin material is by layering. Layers on layers on layers. That’s the only way to go, isn’t it?

The Best Summer Handbags of 2015
I know, we have almost one month left of summer and it’s breaks my heart just thinking about it. Seriously, where did the time go? Anyways, I don’t know about you but for me, summer is the perfect time to go out with your friends on fun trips or have a typical GNO. Sure, you got your outfit all decked out but did you forget about your handbag that carries all your necessities? Each year, I toss and purchase new bags to my collection and this year was no different. Here are some of the best summer handbags I’ve seen this year.
Cooperative Structured Bucket Bag
Just like bucket hats are a thing for the guys, bucket bags are a thing for the ladies. How can you deny bucket bags? I’d opt for the backpack-like ones but the choice is ultimately up to you!

Abercrombie and Fitch Reversible Faux Leather Tote
Speaking from experience, I fully support this purse. I know over the years, Abercrombie hasn’t had that much of a great reputation but let me tell you, they’re coming up again! You don’t know how many compliments I get regarding this purse and hearing this exact question, “Wait, that’s really Abercrombie?”

Eddie Borgo for Target Mini Backpack – Silver Mirror
I just saw this last week and I fell in love with it the second it caught my eye. With all these summer concerts and festivals, this is the PERFECT bag to hold all your things and to help make sure your friends can catch you a mile away when you’re off dancing to your favorite artist. Plus, is anyone else getting total 90s flashbacks or is that just me?

Tatiana’s Column: Keep It Blazin’

Bonjour, darling readers! I hope you are all enjoying yourselves and taking advantage of the nice weather. I wanted to give you all a little tip when updating your closets with a key staple item: blazers. If you don’t already own a blazer, you should definitely invest in one. You can wear a blazer all year round; yes, you can wear a blazer during the summer, but under the right circumstances, of course! I wouldn’t advise wearing a plaid printed wool blazer in the spring or summer. Instead, I’d save that cozy piece for the fall, but you definitely can wear one made out of lightweight rayon or polyester. A blazer adds an elegant yet sexy touch when worn with a pair of shorts and heels for an intimate dinner during the summer. You can even hang it over your shoulders for a chic look because we know that the summer breeze can be quite chilly sometimes, especially when wearing shorts or a mini dress! Nonetheless, blazers can be worn with jeans, slacks, leggings, dresses, skirts, and shorts.
Recently, I found a few of my mother’s vintage blazers that she sewed when she worked as a seamstress. The single-buttoned navy plaid blazer is made out of 100% pure wool and has a classic look. The pink plaid blazer is also single-buttoned and made out of 100% pure wool. I love the color and how it’s finished with matching pink buttons; it reminds me of something Cher Horowitz would wear. The triple-buttoned cream blazer is made out of 100% wool with 100% acetate lining. It looks like something Sue Ellen “Swell” Crandell designed with the beaded, embroidered, and pleather detailing. You can’t forget the shoulder pads on it either!

Space-Dye Boyfriend Jacket, $90, Topshop.com

Adult Coloring Books: Mel Simone Elliott’s Invention

Screen Shot 2013-06-24 at 8.28.58 PMEvery year, we  excitedly anticipate summer for its promises of beautiful weather, sun-kissed skin, and, for some of us, the end to yet another stressful school year. We often come to find ourselves locked-up in our bedrooms, watching movies during the endless plethora of rainy days. Having younger siblings or a kid of your own can have it’s advantages, such as having an excuse to watch cartoons or spend that free time to bond over a coloring book and a fresh pack of Crayola crayons. But what if there’s a way to get that same enjoyment without using a child as an excuse? Well, my fellow kids-at-heart, thanks to Mel Simone Elliott, it’s possible.

What started out as a creative outlet for dealing with heartache, eventually became a brand now known as I LOVE MEL. Mel’s talented hand and love of pop culture has led her innovative ideas of turning childish past-times into an adult’s guilty pleasure. Thus far, she has made paper dolls, temporary tattoos, activity books, and of course, coloring books, and they’re all targeted towards young adults (or older, not judging!) who are not yet ready to let go of the simple pleasures of childhood. If you shop at Urban Outfitters, you have probably already come across these delightful things, but for the rest of you, allow me to introduce you to the Colour Me Good series. There are books dedicated to fashion, the 90’s, the 80’s, famous record album covers, classic horror films, hip hop artists, and even Hollywood’s most famous gingers. Not sold yet? Well, every now and then Mel does an entire coloring book for a single celebrity. So far she has covered Kate Moss, Ryan Gosling, and most recently, Cara Delevingne. So the next time you’re stuck inside on a rainy day, or even trying to kill time while traveling to your next vacation spot, make sure to have one of these nifty coloring books handy.

You can check out and purchase Mel’s merchandise here: http://ilovemel.me/j17/.
