What Drinking Wine Might Be Doing to Your Face, and How to Avoid It

by

Since the era of Methuselah, it has always been said that a person is a reflection of what they eat. But unfortunately, they may have forgotten to tell you that you are also a sum of what you drink. You may eat all the healthy foods in the world, but if you wash them down with the wrong drink, the effects will have been nullified. It is what happens in the case of wine. With a high intake of wine, your face will be affected adversely. It is because wine has components that cause dryness and dehydration among other repercussions. Now, wine may be good for the stomach, but it is not good for your skin, at least not when it is imbibed on too frequently. True, it can improve your skin if you use it in your facial masks, but when you drink it, the effects are all wrong: it will give you a wine face. Here’s what drinking wine might be doing to your face, and how to avoid it.
First, let’s unravel this enigma of ‘wine face.’
It is a facial appearance that is marked by redness on the cheeks, sagging eyelids, reddened cheeks a dry skin, and lines between the eyes. If you have a wine face, you will have a red, flaky, and wrinkled face. Isn’t it just what you are looking for? Let us find out why wine will have these adverse effects on your skin.
1. It has dehydrating effects
Just like any other type of alcohol, the wine will dehydrate your body. When this happens, your body will react by withholding fluids. This water retention is a way of ensuring that your body has the water it needs for it to function despite the draining effects of the alcohol. This water will be retained in your eyes thus giving you those puffy and swollen eyes. With just a drink of wine, you will leave with eyes that make you look all sickly tired and aged. It is why you should take just a little wine a day and instead drinks lots of water to avert any water retention.
2. It dries out your skin
Due to its dehydrating effects of wine, it leaves your skin dry, thus making it easy for wrinkles to appear. Now, the last thing you want is always to be hooked to wrinkle creams. Granted, they may eliminate these wine-inflicted wrinkles, but wouldn’t it be better if you just prevented them from happening in the first place? What is that they say about prevention? Oh yeah, it is much better than any cure. However, if you find yourself with wrinkles, due to some unknown reasons, you can always find solace in the best wrinkle creams available. These products will help you clear out those annoying lines on your face in a jiffy.
3. It causes blood vessels to dilate
According to research, a high intake of alcohol can cause an increase in your blood pressure. Now, your body is wired in such a way that it can be able to moderate blood pressure either through vasoconstriction when the pressure is low or vasodilation when the pressure sky rockets. Therefore, when wine increases your blood pressure, your body will automatically react through the dilation of the capillaries. Dilation happens when your blood vessels expand to increase the flow of blood to your organs. When this happens, blood flow is increased on the surface of your skin hence causing a flush of redness. This redness will persist for all long as there is any alcoholic content in your blood.
Redness can also be caused by a condition known as alcohol flush reaction. It happens when your body is unable to break fully down the alcohol. It is this malfunction that will cause the accumulation of the component of wine that causes swelling, flushing and general skin irritation.
Conclusion
We all want flawless faces — faces free of wrinkles and any form of discoloration. However, this venture can be sabotaged by your drinking of wine. It is because wine has components that can dehydrate your skin, cause dilation of the capillaries and wrinkling. It is these effects that will culminate in drooled eyelids; a dry face that is overly flushed and wrinkling that define a wine face. This way, your face will have become a reflection of what you have taken: wine.

Fifty Shades of Grey Wine

by

I know I’m not the only one out there anxiously waiting for the Fifty Shades of Grey movie to premiere. After reading the trilogy and watching the movie trailers, I was thrilled to try the Fifty Shades of Grey Wine. Blended by author E.L. James, the collection includes Red Satin and White Silk, which both come in sexy black bottles with the phrase “You are mine” printed on the them. I received a bottle of Red Satin to review, and I very much enjoyed the rich taste. Since the wine is a blend of Petite Sirah and Syrah, I paired it with a steak and of course, it tasted excellent and smooth. A bottle of 50 Shades of Grey Wine retails at $17.99 and makes for a great holiday gift. As written in the book, the mysterious, dark, and sexy Christian Grey says, “If you spill the wine I will punish you, Ms. Steele.” Perhaps by drinking this wine we will all find our Christian. Here’s hoping. Cheers!

Philosophy Wine Review

by

Natural and healthy products are the latest trends in social media. From instagramming our healthy meals and snacks to posting workout videos and results, this fad has positive results for its large following. To build on this, eco-friendly lifestyle expert Danny Seo joined forces with Votto Vines Importing to create his organic line of Danny Seo Philosophy Wines. We were very excited to try Seo’s line, so check out what we had to say in this Philosophy Wine Review!

Seo, who is also the Editor-in-Chief of his own magazine, Naturally, Danny Seo, clearly has an eye for “going green” with his 2012 Sauvignon Blanc and 2011 Zinfandel from organic vineyards in Mendocino County. We received samples of both wines and not only did we feel better about drinking organic wine since the word triggers the connotation of healthy, we also enjoyed the refreshing taste and how well they paired with our meals. The hints of fruit in the crisp Sauvignon Blanc went well with grilled salmon and broccoli, while the complex Zinfandel complimented the pepperoni and mushroom pizza.

Philosophy Wines obviously have their own philosophy—“Great wine comes from organic grapes.” Try a bottle of Philosophy, or gift one to a friend! A bottle of Philosophy Wine retails at $19.99. To learn more about Philosophy Wine, go to Philosophywine.com.

3 Fool Proof Ingredients to a Date Night at Home

by

Hopefully this summer you and your boo are spending a whole lot of much needed, hot-heated time together. If you’re like me, you’re all about the quality time, but not about to bleed your wallet dry on fancy restaurant bills and over-priced movie tickets. There are plenty of ways to create romantic, memory-making evenings together right in the comfort of your own home. Here are three solid ingredients to keep your casual summer nights together hot, humid and exciting:

1. Wine and Chocolate Tasting

Nothing goes better together than wine, chocolate and getting you in the mood! If the weather is nice, the sky is clear, and you have a few citronella candles – take your party to the backyard. Feed each other chocolate piece by piece under the magnificent July sky and you’ll be well on your way to stirring each other’s souls. Dark chocolate lovers? Try Dark LINDOR Truffles $3.00 at Walmart and be amazed.

2. Massage
The next ingredient on the list is a thoughtful, scorching massage. After a long day at work, or even a harsh day at the beach, your muscles will be screaming for sizzling relief. Put on some soothing music, like Spa Pandora and melt away. And remember the oil! Try Organix Dry Body Oil, Hydrating Moroccan Argan Oil $7.99 at Walmart. It smells heavenly and feels even better. Not sure how to give a good massage? Be sure to check out this tutorial for helpful tips on how to give your boo a massage to remember: http://www.dailymotion.com/video/xpfvmi_how-to-give-a-full-body-massage_lifestyle

3. Read to Each Other
I know, I know, it sounds lame. But don’t knock it till you try it. The final ingredient to your night to remember is a good, old fashioned book. Whip out the pillows and candles and left-over wine, relax from your massage, and slip away in to a fictional world. Depending on your personal taste, you’ll choose from the vast array of literature available to you through your local library or personal bookshelf. This is a unique, intimate way to end your night and grow closer to each other in both interest and physical distance. The rest is history!

VOGA Wine: The Bottle to Bring!

by

Superbowl Sunday: a day dedicated to football, screaming at the tv, drinking beer, and eating lots of food. I personally am not the sport type, but I do enjoy delicious food and drinks while hanging out with great friends. To my fellow wine lovers, you would understand my level of excitement when VOGA Italia Wine sent me a box of goodies a few days before the Superbowl, including a bottle of Pinot Grigio, Dolce Rosso, Prosecco, and Sparkling wine. I have always been interested in the different types of wine and how they pair with specific foods. VOGA Italia Wine also sent over a list of Superbowl foods that compliment my new bottles of wine.

unnamed

We brought our VOGA Italia wine to this year’s Superbowl Party, a big change to the usual beer my friends and I drink. My favorite foods are the unhealthy and fried ones such as boneless buffalo wings, mozzarella sticks, burgers, and nachos, but to my luck, these are the suggested Superbowl foods that the VOGA Italia wine would go great with!

We started off with pairing the Pinot Grigio with guacamole and Tostitos chips. Pinot Grigio is my favorite wine and I love the VOGA Italia Pinot Grigio. The light wine complimented the saltiness of the Tostitos chips very well and didn’t overpower the hints of red onion and jalapeño in the guacamole. We then moved on to the sweet Dolce Rosso that we paired with mini burger sliders. I prefer my burgers well done and thought the Dolce Rosso left a very savory taste. Next we moved on to the Prosecco wine matched with spicy buffalo chicken pizza. The Prosecco went well with the spice of the buffalo sauce and the thick pizza dough. We saved the Sparkling wine for dessert which we paired with funfetti cupcakes and sugar cookies. With only 155 calories a bottle, we sure made up for the rest of the calories with the sweets.

VOGA Italia wine is now my new favorite brand of wine to drink. With the bottles ranging from $10.99 to $15.99, not only are they affordable, but they are very delectable in taste, too. Choosing to drink wine instead of beer left us feeling unbloated and made our food tastier. Visit their website at Vogaitalia.com. BY TATIANA STEC
