Modern Day Beauty Look For Memorial Day

by

Memorial Day weekend is a wonderful time to catch up with loved ones and unwind, but who says your beauty routine has to be mundane? We’re going to show you how you can switch it up by sharing a modern day beauty look for Memorial Day that will give a little twist to your typical patriotic flair. So, here’s to a weekend in honor of our men and women serving in the armed forces, and here’s to celebrating in a fashion-forward style.

Pick Your Poison: Coral Lips or Coral Nails

Optimized-NARS Casablanca Nordstrom

Yes, you read that correctly. It’s not a part of your average red, white, and blue beauty look, but who makes the rules? A twist from your good ole classic red lip, a coral pout is exactly what you need to feel spontaneous and authentic while still incorporating a patriotic spirit that’s not so blatant. If it’s a color you’ve been hesitant to try before, go for it! Though the color might look scary in the tube, you may find a smile peeking through your lips when you try it on, as coral creates a natural warmth and liveliness to your skin tone, eyes, and face while creating an overall look that’s flattering and eye-catching. A few of our favorites include Maybelline Color Sensational Creamy Matte Lip Color in Craving Coral, retailing for $7.99 at ULTA, and NARS lipstick in Casablanca, retailing for $27 at Nordstrom. If coral lips are too much, try it on your nails. Check out Essie’s Color Binge ($8.50), OPI’s Are We There Yet? ($9.99), or ZOYA’s Heidi ($10).
White Eyeliner
MAKEUPFOREVER white liner

To go with your stunning coral lips, we encourage you to take out your white eyeliner that you keep for good measure, but probably find yourself wondering: why is it that I need to have this in my makeup collection again? Though white eyeliner may not be used as frequently or be as popular as nude eyeliner nowadays, white eyeliner is perfect for this type of occasion. It will still manage the trick of creating a more wide-eyed and brighter look for your face, yet it’ll also go beautifully and naturally with your coral lips. Before you know it, you’ll be the fashionista on the rise. Check out the latest such as Make Up Forever’s metallic to matte finishes in their Aqua XL Extra Long Lasting Waterproof Eye Pencil in Matte White, retailing for $21.00, or the classics like NYX’s Jumbo Pencil in Milk, retailing for $4.50, to complete your Memorial Day look this weekend.

Maniguard
Maniguard
If someone on your list is a manicure fanatic like I am, then Maniguard from Helen Parkly is definitely a brand to check out. The most frustrating thing about doing your own nails at home is having a messy manicure, so Maniguard is here to help! These non-toxic and latex-free petal-shaped stickers can be easily applied to act as a shield against stray nail polish, just as the name suggests. Cleanup is just as easy as application–just peel away the stickers once the polish is dry to reveal a super clean manicure. They make the perfect stocking stuffers or additions to any nail kit you plan on gifting. Your fellow manicure lover will thank you.

Maniguard comes in all sizes and 3 different colors and is priced at $10 a pack.

Backstage Beauty Tips From Hervé Léger Spring 2016

by

Fashion brand Hervé Léger premiered their Spring 2016 collection this past weekend at New York Fashion Week, but we are even more obsessed with the hair and makeup as we are with the clothes. While backstage, we learned some serious tips and tricks from the professionals and partners at TRESemmé and ZOYA, from how to create the perfect braided crown ponytail to getting a clean, polished manicure.

“It’s the 30th anniversary of Hervé Léger so we’re embracing a new direction with a more organic quality in our handwork and elements of nature incorporated into the collection,” said Hervé Léger Chief Creative Officer Lubov Azria. “We wanted to collaborate with Orlando [Pita] on a softer braid and really play with texture more than we have before.”
“It’s a new, softer look for our Hervé Léger girl this season,” explained Orlando Pita, New York Fashion Week Ambassador for TRESemmé. “She’s still creating a strong statement with the braid, but we’ve played with making this more relaxed with purposely pulled out with loose pieces that frame her face and create beautiful movement when she walks.”
Below, Orlando Pita gives us some tips on how to recreate this beautiful look!

Holiday Nail Collections

by

There are more than plenty of things to be excited and grateful about with the holiday cheer in the air. Store sales, peppermint and gingerbread everything, and Christmas tunes are just a handful of what the Cliché family has been looking forward to. What’s at the top of all of our holiday agendas though, besides watching Home Alone more than five times, are gifts for both you and your loved ones. We’re grabbing our peppermint white mochas and prepping our Christmas lists for some heavy shopping, shopping that should have been done yesterday! Have you seen those lines? Luckily, Cliché is always here to keep you five steps ahead—thank goodness for the internet!

So, what’s more fabulous than the glitz and glam of the holiday season? Keeping your nails just as fabulous—duh! These winter and holiday nail collections from our favorite brands have made their debuts, and we’re more than happy to put a spotlight on them. They’re the perfect go-to gift for your BFF or sister and can easily be one of your best stocking stuffers. You can also keep some of your favorites for yourself. Shhh—we won’t tell. Sorry, Santa!

O.P.I Gwen Stefani Holiday Collection
NBC’s The Voice’s phenomenal judge, Gwen Stefani, has stretched her creativity and talent into yet another outlet—this time in the form of a stunning holiday nail collection by O.P.I. Gwen’s personal style over the years has made her into a fashion icon that many of us strive to emulate in our looks. This holiday season, you can deliver on whichever one of her looks you love to the T with any of the nineteen polishes in her collection. From shades of classic red to out-of-the-box detailed polishes that you can finish off your manicures with, there are hundreds of style combinations you can create just like Gwen does with her iconic looks.

Zoya Wishes Holiday 2014 Collection
Zoya has certainly answered our wishes with their Wishes Holiday 2014 collection. Sparkles? Check. Shimmer? Check. Two elements that always make the best holiday polishes, polishes that we’ll be constantly repainting our nails with. Their holiday collection also gets kudos from us for having a black satin shade, which is a color some may not usually associate with holiday cheer. But we’re all about black, all the time. It’s a color you can never go wrong with! Black will always be the new black.

Essie Winter 2014
Essie’s Winter 2014 collection is one of my personal favorites. These polishes just make you want to smile and spread that holiday cheer in the right way. With soft and bright shades of pink and red, a touch of ivory, and a metallic color for some shine, this collection has it all for the holidays. It makes us want to paint our nails with each of the polishes at the same time. Why not? We’re sure it’ll still look adorable! Just try it out first. Haha.

Effects Rock at the Top Effects A Stroke of Brilliance Effects A Set in Stones Effects A Cut Above

(Essie Luxe Effects Polishes $8.50 each, Essie.com)

Essie Luxe Effects
End your manicures with this shimmery touch by Essie Luxe Effects. The polishes remind us of the gorgeous ornaments adorned on Christmas trees that we can’t stop staring at. Give your nails some dazzle and sparkle. These “luxeffects” top coats do just as they say, adding that luxurious and glamorous look to any manicure you’re rocking.

FabFitFun Summer 2014 Box Review

by

It’s no surprise that beauty subscription box services are totally in right now—who doesn’t love a monthly care package delivered to your door each month? Filled with the latest, smartest items in beauty and lifestyle, FabFitFun is another serious contender to consider adding to your monthly subscription lineup—and their Summer 2014 box doesn’t disappoint.
For the price of only $50 (valued at over a whopping $240), you’ll receive 11 full-size beauty and lifestyle items handpicked by the FabFitFun team, plus various coupons and gift cards. Interested in learning more? From the stash, we’ve narrowed down the supply to our Top 5 favs!
popchips_image-660x400
POPchips (in Sour Cream and Onion)$1.39 per single-serve bag
Let’s be honest—snacking during the summer is practically inevitable. While attending cookouts and barbeques, you’ll reach for something salty to go along with your burger or hotdog, and while venturing out on long road trips, your stomach will growl greedily for a snack between bathroom stops. So instead of reaching for that bag of boring fried chips, try the low-calorie and healthier, popped alternative, POPchips! Our Summer 2014 box came with the Sour Cream and Onion flavor (a personal favorite), and we savored every airy, light, crispy bite. At only 100-130 calories per bag and packed with flavor, feel free to shamelessly snack away (and prepare to share).
Zoya
Zoya Nail Polish (in Thandie) – $9 per bottle
Being the nail polish lover that I am, I couldn’t resist trying out the Zoya nail polish from the box first. Used by professionals across the country, this vegan-friendly formula is not only long-lasting, but is even safe for your nails when you are expecting! We received the shade “Thandie,” a vibrant, creamy orange, and immediately fell in love. Second only perhaps to coral, orange is definitely the perfect summer shade. After first applying a base coat, it only took one coat of color for the varnish to completely cover and shine. Apply this shade to toenails (paired with a set of brown strappy sandals) and fingernails (go crazy with stackable rings) and you’re ready for the boardwalk!
Purlisse
pur~lisse pur~protect SPF30 – $55 per 1.7 oz tube
If summer means anything at all, it means sunshine, and we at Cliché are very serious about protecting our skin from those burning, harmful rays. Sure, basking in the sun for hours and hours sounds and feels like the perfect remedy after a long winter, but sunscreen is a very important step in that enjoyment (after all, getting sunburned after all that basking isn’t fun). Cue pur~lisse pur~protect moisturizer, the perfect protection for your skin. Why do we love this so much? Not only is it super moisturizing for your face, but it’s also packed with SPF30, meaning extra coverage from the sun’s rays! This lightweight, anti-aging formula is your two-in-one summer essential.
SonyaDakar
Sonya Dakar Flash Facial $95 per 1 oz bottle
Since we are awfully big on skincare here at Cliché (as mentioned above), it’s no surprise this Flash Facial from Sonya Dakar made our Top 5 list. Cherished by celebrities like Gwyneth Paltrow herself (you have to admit she’s got one of the most glowing complexions in Hollywood), this one-minute exfoliating treatment promises instant results. After applying onto your clean face for 6o seconds, you’ll witness noticeably softer and plumper looking skin. Sound too good to be true? Try it out yourself (or, you know, just look at Gwyn)!
ThursdayFriday
Thursday Friday Away Mini Clutch$35
Well, now you need somewhere to stash all your summer travel essentials, right? And it has to be cute, right? Well, look no further, because the Summer 2014 box comes with this adorable Thursday Friday Away Mini Clutch, which easily doubles as a makeup bag. A miniature version of their best-selling away bag, this cute accessory is not only practical, but stylish, too! The inside is lined with nylon and has a metal zip closure, and let’s not forget the adorable electric blue statement purse print on the front! Seal all your cherished cosmetics away in style.
Still not convinced that you absolutely need this box in your life? Then take $5 off your Summer Box purchase with the code CLICHEMAG! You’re very welcome.
